It was brought to my attention that the Unigine Heaven numbers weren't correct as the resolutions for each test differed. I reran the test at a 1600 x 900 resolution and graphics improvement was 44%. The discrete graphics test showed the FPS was 45.3 and the score was 1893. The built-in graphics showed the FPS was 31.3 and the score was 1311.

@@heywhatisnext I have a stack of Elitedesks of various kinds. Later versions can even have 2.5GB NICs as their Flex IO card option. Sadly not for a G4. Flex IO is the name of the port you took out to install the GPU. You will want version one if you go looking. As v2 and v3 will not work for you.

Another important thing to consider is the top bezel cover. I bought a 705 g4 with the 2400GE with the goal of doing this. However, my unit came with a solid top. For optimum ventalation, you should try finding one of the mesh tops that are on the 65 or 90w models. The tops from the 800 g4s will work, but if it's not a g4, don't bother. It won't fit.

I was more interested in what it could handle at the top. Like PS3 or XBox 360 emulation. I am currently running a ryzen 3100/3060ti setup for my Home Media Center/Batocera system. It handles most everything pretty well.

Isn't rendering & playback etc CPU intensive in Davinci Resolve? GPU tends to only show it's worth in effects and what not, and even there you need specific modern infrastructure on the GPU to get anything out of it. The only reason why you would add this GPU is for light and retro gaming, that's pretty much it. So yea, for your use case scenario, it's probably worse since now you have higher power draw and less thermal headroom...
@heywhatisnext

Thank for watching and for commenting. Overall, it's still was a fun project and don't regret buying it. Plan to do some more gaming on it in the future.
@notloki3140
@notloki3140 4 күн бұрын
@@heywhatisnext It's definitely a good project, and if you either chose to use the GPU to its full potential down the line or sell it to someone that will, it's a win. I was just pointing out that perhaps it's good to either know if the upgrade will actually help your workflow or test it based on what the upgrade promises. I fell like this video does not do it justice since most of the tests were done based on a use that would not necessary benefit the adding of extra hardware. Which makes sense since you wouldn't have used it before like it had a GPU so why would you do it now. Your predefined predisposition of using the hardware failed to showcase the benefits of upgrading it making the video somewhat irrelevant. What I would do if I was you is to test the PC with and without a GPU for gaming that's pertinent to the time period of that GPU and make a follow up video. It is a lot of work of course, so feel free to ignore this advice.
@macvideomanlive
@macvideomanlive 4 күн бұрын
@@notloki3140 I totally agree with you. I wouldn’t say the video is irrelevant as there are those laid back users who might use this solution the same as how I use it, but I do agree that further testing needs to be done to show it’s true advantage. Honestly, this channel is just for fun and gives me an excuse to try things that I wouldn’t do normally. I appreciate your comment and opinion!

Vega 11 is quite fast by the integrated standard. 130W with a discrete.. ouch that is a LOT vs max 65 on IGPU and CPU combined. Also watch out for the 35 vs 65 w models. I think that the internal GPU will only work for the 65W models. Also the price of the card has now risen to $75 USD.. and to ship this to my country is another $75 USD.. lol..

Would have been useful to see an FPS test in graphics hungry games. I always thought you couldn't buy graphics cards for mini PCs like that, how did you find out it could be upgraded and how did you know what physical dimensions of card to look for? Is this the only card available for it or are there other choices? Where can we buy the cards other than Ebay?

You can update this to Win 11. I have 3 of there units and just recently installed Win 11 on one of them without a problem. On another note - I have the 35W versions and I was having issues with 2 of them where the fan right from the start spins up to max RPM and stays like that forever. It becomes terribly noisy at that point. The only workaround is to remove CMOS battery, then fans behave normally then, but only until you have the device connected to power, after disconnection the problem returns. The problem is known and described over the internet as well. I was wondering - have you ever encountered this? Can you also post what RAM modules you have?

Thanks for watching. I ran some tests using Geekbench 6 and Cinebench R23 to capture temps. For the CPU, the minimum was 54°C and max was 94°C. In Geekbench 6 graphics test, I saw 60°C. Hope this helps.

Thanks for watching, and overall, I would agree with you. If you’re a gamer, I could see a benefit if you already have this EliteDesk PC.

@heywhatisnext you're welcome. Apart from the repetitious phrase, it looked like a good video. That phrase is excessively over used by many Americans and it does get tiresome hearing it, especially as it is usually completely unnecessary in the context of the commentary. Yours has been the most intelligent response to my comment like this . I'll have another look at your videos
