@@ntgm20 very much agree on the preference towards HP, the pro/elite desk models with the black and silver design are my favourite of the corporate target devices and to me a very clean take on design. Glad that you reviewing the SFF variant, since STH already reviewing Tiny Mini Micro, and many other youtuber review the standard "MT" tower. Also those overview table is to the point and easy to understand, and maybe you can make each line alternate color so it's easier to identify. Great job as usual!

@@ntgm20 I still have HP 800 G1 SFF, already maxed out with 4790 and 32GB of RAM, and also put GTX 1650 LP and NVMe adapter on bottom slot. performance is quite good, and like you said, the fan is pretty noisy so I swapped it out with my spare deepcool PWM fan. Now that system is decommissioned as living room PC and serve as Router. Feels like SFF is like an step child by PC community despite the prefect expansion capability despite the tight space. (PS. I want to see you put the more modern SFF like the G4 machine with Quadro RTX A2000 and see how it's perform :D )

Adding a RTX A2000 would be really cool, but I don't know if I would have the return on investment. If only I was a gamer... For the fans, I'm going to look and see how replacing the CPU fan will help any. I did it with an i7-6700 in a G2 SFF, and it was very impressive, especially at idle.

@@ntgm20 RTX A2000 is amazing for home server, you can load multiple 4K transcoding at the same time for Plex/Jellyfin server and also can run AI face recognition in Nextcloud photo gallery (just like google photo), especially for the 12GB variant, and it's quite an space saving and power efficient too (75W at max load), so you can put it on 2U server or in one of SFF system as multimedia server, other alternative if you feel challenged enough (and for saving several bucks) will be Tesla T4 and it's derivative, both T4 and RTX A2000 is quite cheap nowadays in used market, even in 3rd world country where I live!

Great video! I'm a big fan and user of old OEM machines. Had various machines, 8200, OptiPlex, Z440 and it's time to upgrade to something more modern. I went with the EliteDesk 800 G4 with an i5-8500 because it has more slots, more ports and less crammed inside. The differences are in the detail and you did a great job outlining them! Very important to know is that with the 8th series, the i5 now has 6 Cores, so it's a big upgrade over a 7th gen i5, so I would aim to get a 8th gen intel at the very least. I'm not sure if 9th gen is worth the premium yet...

I've been a fan of the Elitedesk 800 SFF since finding the G1. Great as a used OEM. Agreed I don't see the great draw of the 9th gen over 8th, but either is a great leap in front of the 6/7th gens.

Thank you for making this video because I keep getting confused by the models and thank you for mentioning how some of these are upgradable with how available barebones kits are on eBay for $40 for a chassis, CPU fan, hard disk caddy and no power adapter. This is a better route for me because $80 for an i7 CPU, the 65w power adapter then dealing with a few of these systems I've got spare RAM and M.2's which I kinda stressed about realizing I'd have leftovers but I plan on doing multiple builds for projects. My HP Elitedesk 800 G3 with 16GB of RAM and a cheap M.2 is a perfect Linux desktop for me. I got tired of SBCs like RPIs because of the CPU/upgrade/availability limitations. I'm thinking a Prodesk for a backup/Zoneminder server and another maxed out for a virtualization server to host a VPN, remote desktop, home automation, testing, etc. type stuff

Great vid, only spotted after getting the EliteDesk G4 800 i7 8700, and just waiting delivery of a EliteDesk G5 800 i9 9900. Was going to do the usual 'build one up' and spotted these, they really are a great unit, such a well thought out frame assy, no screwdriver needed for anything, well, just a small one to crimp up the NMVe sticks, but it seems your prices in the US are almost give away, a bit more pricey here, but still well worth it. Keep up the good work. My only worry is 'spares', the power supply especially.

Hello! The approximate dimensions on the 800 G4 SFF I have is 13 inches wide, 12 inches deep, and 4 inches tall. The tower is 6 inches wide 14.5 inches deep and 15 inches tall. That is of course with the SFF model laying down and the tower standing up. Is the 800 G6 you are looking at a SFF or tower? As for how quiet they are depends on the fans and the workload. With no GPU, there are two fans, one in the power supply and the other on the CPU cooler. Unless working it hard (for me that was rendering video normally) the fans can be very quiet. On a 800 G2 I replaced the CPU fan with a Noctua NF-R8 redux-1800 PWM one and that really quieted it down at idle.

I have an 800 G3 SFF. The only problem I face with these machines is even though they have a full sized PCIe slot, the slot itself is limited to 35W max output which significantly decreases the range of GPUs i can use on the machine. In addition, The power supply is limited to 180W supply which again makes it difficult to put a power intensive GPU on the run. For the moment the only 2 GPU's that run on these SFF machines are the GT 1030 and the GT 730 2GB variant. Other than these 2 issues the PC in itself is a really good machine for regular use.

What is the cheapest HP mini computer with usbc DP Alt Mode, even better with 15W power delivery? I think thunderbolt would be pretty cool? Is the hard-to-reach and expensive additional board with a connector the only solution?
@ntgm20
@ntgm20 11 ай бұрын
I don't know about the cheapest, that is always up to what you find. From what I've seen it looks like for the 800 minis in G4 or G5 are able to have the optional USB-C on the back with DP Alt, or Thunderbolt, but the specs list those separate. The G4 and G5 list the front USB-C as 10 Gbps and charging, but don't list if 10 or 15W specifically.

I have an HP ProDesk 600 G5 SFF i7 9th gen. According to Linux dmidecode command, this PC supports up to 64GB RAM, however several websites say that it supports up to 128GB. I'm really not sure if it supports up to 64GB or 128GB. Do you know or have any way of knowing this?

I think the reason that the stated max RAM capacity is wrong is because 32GB DDR4 sticks didn't yet exist when the product was launched. But the 8th-11th gen CPUs support 128GB RAM. You might need to update the BIOS too.

Ordered a 800 G3 with a i5 7500 yesterday to use as a NAS a bit more expensive where i live as it cost me a total of 135 Euro with shipping from UK to Sweden.
