I just bought this laptop last month and everything is just right as Matthew said. Lots of ports, Best thermal, full upgrade options and Best screen.... 5600H+RTX3060 no need to think twice it's a sweet spot for price and performance ratio.... Just the default RAM configurations is 2x 4GB, hoping like 1x8 GB so customer can add another 8GB and powwww 16 GB in easy step... Triple Display Output (HDMI+Mini DP+USB-C DP), Triple USB-A ports, Dual RAM Slots, Dual NVME SSD Slots, Full Size SD Card Slot, USB-C with DP 1,4 output.... Just WOW... But once I forgot to plug on the wall socket about an hour the battery still 85% left (Balance Mode - Fan Auto), Netflix and doing some office work with Google Docs using Microsoft Edge, not bad...

Hey great review, I've bought this laptop a few days ago and I must say that the battery was terrible as in your review(2-3h watching videos). HP is apparently not doing great job optimizing software when laptop is not plug in. So the biggest problem is that some basic apps use rtx3060 instead of iGPU when on battery and that drains a lot of power. I managed to move all tasks on iGPU and now the rtx3060 is completely turned off. This gave me around 6-7h watching videos(and while editing word doc the estimation was around 8:30h) . So yea its HP fault not optimizing SW properly but the laptop is still awesome.

Set to power saving mode when on battery. System will turn off your RTX and run purely on iGPU. When with charger your system will switch to performance mode again.

I have this model. It was in a backpack along with the charging brick, which was in a separate pocket. The backpack slid off the seat of my car, and the screen is now broken. The charge brick cracked the screen internally, despite being in a totally separate compartment of the backpack and only falling about 8-10 inches. The laptop has been fantastic in every other regard, but the screen flex issue is a problem. I wasn't worried about it initially, but in hindsight I should have been. The screen is extremely fragile. Just something to keep in mind if you're considering this model. Also contacting HP support has proven almost impossible. They intentionally broke the live chat feature on their page. I'll update this comment if/when I ever get hold of an agent and let you know what the warranty experience is like.

Update: HP customer service sucks. Took 2 days of repeated attempts to even get a human. Rep informed me that it "might be covered". Apparently, HP will not make warranty determinations until they have the device. I would have to ship the laptop to Houston, which would take more than a week. Once reviewed, if they decide the damage is covered, the repair is free. If they decide it is not, the repair would cost me $500. Ended up purchasing a screen replacement online and will have to do the repair myself.

I'm also having Omen 15 2020 (Same body, i7 10th Gen, RTX 2060)... Well can't really say anything about the after sales services but in my opinion the flexible screen is a plus when it comes to sustaining damage as it absorbs a lot of impact force... My cat pushed my laptop over the table and it ended up on bare floor from height of ~2+ ft but still came out being good as new.

I have the omen 3070 rtx 300hz. People, I would suggest that also. I saw this in store and went with the 3070 which has rgb by the way. This machine blows throw every game on 1080p ultra with ray tracing. No stutters, just smooth game play.

In terms of thermals we had some hot weeks in the uk this summer where my living room was around 25-30 celcius and the laptop ran quite hot but didn’t overheat playing latest demanding games

I have the UK spec Omen from last year with the RTX 2060 and i7 10750H. Plays all my games like Cold War fine on an ultra-wide. Thermals are great, fans are a bit loud but the build feels great. Also you can add in another NVME which is awesome!

Watching this on the 2020 Omen I bought in India in Dec 2020. AMD Ryzen 5 4600H 3.00 GHz 16 GB RAM 512 GB SSD GTX 1660 Ti with 6 GB VRAM 99% sRGB Display with 288-300 NITS and 144 Hz refresh rate Excellent Keyboard so far Don't have any complaints from the trackpad Excellent cooling system The flexibility of the display hasn't caused any concerns till now either Have actually dropped it two times and which caused my heart to stop but didn't cause anything in the machine to stop Cost me 1 Lakh (additional 5k for compulsory bad on the HP site) I love this laptop! Don't see myself upgrading for year!

Bit late to the party but this is a great machine, looks good and feels nice to use. The aluminum chassis really adds a premium feel. Got a 5600H w/ 3060, 16 GB RAM & 1 TB SSD. The 144 Hz 15.6 inch screen is pleasing to look at and bright enough. Best part, the asking price was $920. Pretty sweet for a nifty, portable gaming machine

Make sure to get warranty on these..they have internal problems that are usually meant to occur after 4 years. But mines ended up getting it after nearly a few months and now the x,r, and a key are unusable. If you get warranty, you just get a new one, and geek squad costs like 300$ just to fix the keys so...

My OMEN has an RTX 3060, Ryzen 7 5800H, 16 GB RAM, and a 1024 GB SSD bought it for 1099 EUR. You can make sure I'm playing Cyberpunk on full settings in 1080p without any lag. With RTX settings, fps is arround 45 - 50 based on what do I see.

I bought the 10th gen intel, 2070 max Q model a few months back. I was gonna buy the 2020 one because of the sleeker chassis and what not, but I just couldn’t tolerate the laptop not having a full size num pad when they could fit it in VERY easily. Since internals and everything else were pretty much the same, 2019 it was for me! I really hope to see hp do this exact same laptop but with a full size numpad in the future!!

IDK why Omen 15 2021 has this bad battery life. I am rocking a 2020 Omen 15 with Ryzen 5 4600H & GTX 1660TI with the 71WHr battery variant and in normal use(Office work + KZbin + Coding + Browsing the web) & about 50% screen brightness, I'm getting 6-7Hrs very consistently. It may be because of more powerful hardware, but it shouldn't vary this much.

I got the same laptop but for some reason after 45 minutes of gaming frame rate drops from 60 to 30 FPS ( in case of re village and cyberpunk) What could be the problem ?

Some laptops reduce performance when running by battery, does it act the same plugged in the mains.

Just traded a Lenovo Legion 5 17'' for a Omen 16 laptop specced Ryzen 5800H/RTX3070. This laptop is so much better for me than the lenovo R5 17'' in every way - besides the mux switch and the lesser watt RTX 3070. Right now in 2022 before they ship the 2022 models - you can get these babies very cheap. So why do I think this is better? - Its cheaper where I live, more pretty, the powerbrick is not an actual brick. better keybaord and trackpad, less ips glow. I get better long duration boost clocks and there is more thermal headroom in the omen 16 unit. The sound from the speakers are far better also. and you dont look like a douche when you open it at a coffieshop. Also I like to game at a friends house. I got a spare monitor at his place and the mini Display port is up to 8k/60 so I can run my externeal 165hz, 0.1 ms ELMB 1440p Screen at the max. Many laptops only got hdmi and the gamer screens only have shitty hdmi specs.

Do you guys trust in Intel Evo platform? I still can't believe thin laptops which has powerful Intel chip that claims to have more than 12 hours battery life on paper. How does it last sooo long while other similar computers like Intel MacBook don't last even 10 hours.
