HP Omen 15 (2020) Review

What do you think about the Omen 15? My personal choice would be the lower end AMD models, simply because of their power and efficiency. =)
Edit: Leap has kindly point out a mistake with one of the IOs of the AMD Omen 15s. Only Intel variants have Thunderbolt 3 support, the AMD versions only support DP 1.4. Also, there's an option in the BIOS to turn off the always on fans.

Excellent review, editing especially, as always. One very minor nitpick; when covering the I/O, you mentioned a Thunderbolt 3 port; from what I can tell on their site, this is unique to the Intel model, whereas the AMD variant instead seems to simply have a 5Gbps USB-C port with DP 1.4. Is the HP site incorrect, or was this just a simple oversight?

Thumbs up even just because you've said "universal laptop". That's something that many people look for, but most reviewers don't really understand. They focus either on gaming or low requirements. Like, hello, some of us just want to play games in medium-high settings now and then, while still being able to edit and create artistic stuff looking at a nice display lol. I have it for a month, fast, and coolingsystem works very well. I use it for gaming and work/ study. With 4 hours gaming, it gets warm, but not hot. I do use a coolingfanpad extra.

Really enjoyed your review. As a happy owner of this same laptop (Ryzen 7 4800H with 1660Ti model), you can actually disable the "Always On Fan" option in the BIOS so that the fans won't spin up when idle. That in combination with disabling CPU Boost in the power options will keep fan acoustics to a minimum :)

@@UCO-zq3qp I would recommend! The only issue I've had so far is that there is ghosting with the keyboard playing Counter-strike, where sometimes movement keys will not be registered. Other than that, this laptop is awesome!

I have the RTX2060/i7 10750H/300hz version and it runs pretty cool out of the box. Disabling Intel turbo boost makes my system run at 50c-60c under heavy load. The flimsy top panel and the gap near the hinge bug the shit out of me though so beware.

I’ve been using this laptop (ryzen 7, 1660 ti, 16gb ram) as my daily driver replacement for my desktop workstation for the past week. This review pretty much nails everything. It’s an extremely capable machine, and up to this point I haven’t found myself needing more power (mostly productivity and valorant). The only thing I would add is to make sure you update everything (windows update, hp drivers directly from hp, bios update). I had pretty nasty screen flicker, and a bios update finally resolved the issue. Hopefully it helps any new omen owners!
