I commented on your Legion 5 video too. So here is the follow-up: I got my Legion 5 a couple of days ago and I am not getting over 90 degrees while playing games. I played Cod Warzone and AC Valhalla on high settings and I am getting good fps (like those I saw on YT) while staying below 90 degrees. I was on max perf mode with optimus off. I think the 1660ti version of Legion 5 has better cooling than the 1650ti one.

I was torn between the Omen and the Legion. Ended up getting the Omen because Lenovo took too long making Ryzen laptops available with 1660Ti in the UK. Glad I did. The Omen stays cool to the touch at all times and does exactly what I need it to do.

Hi Matthew, The Legion 5 has a 2,5" SSD slot with 60Wh But the Legion 5 also has a 80Wh version without the 2,5" The Omen 15 has 70Wh without an SSD. So the Legion should have a better Battery perfomance

Great review. You mentioned the screen is exactly the same as the intel model but the intel model you reviewed i believe had a 300hz display. Would love it if you can clarify if the 144hz display looks the same as the 300hz display or if the 300hz display is better?

The 300 Hz display is better, but I would not suggest hp, I purchased an omen and after a year even zoom would not respond, its a good laptop for the first few months but it isn't built to last

@@Sparkle7810, I would definitely suggest that you get an MSI since the frame rate is much more stable and the performance is significantly better, it is also more affordable than the omen, or I would suggest that you get an Asus rog laptop, Alienware is definitely one of the best but it is not worth the price, so the best options for you would be MSI or Asus rog

just got the amd HP Omen and I love everything EXCEPT the fan turns on even when the temperatures are around 35 Celsius... I've tried turning fan off in bios, updating bios, changing power profile to passive fan, and it still keeps going. Going to buy the legion tomorrow and compare!

*For anyone that wants to buy these!* As an HP Omen laptop owner (former series), I can gurantee you that these are not worth the price. You shouldn't buy it for gaming purposes if you're thinking of it. At the time of my purchase, it was advertised as a gaming computer, but as soon as I got it, the issue with overheating was present - since day 1. A year and a half of normal use and _occasional_ gaming later, one of the speakers stopped working and worst of all, the *battery inflated.* Thank goodness it comes with a 3 year warranty and the swollen battery was replaced but hot damn, for such a price you'd think these would be made to last longer. It's such a nobrainer, putting lithium batteries in a machine that will obviously overheat due to gaming. CONCLUSION: If anything, buy the desktop version of these computer series, not the laptop, and if you desperately need a laptop, I highly suggest you look elsewhere. Don't waste your money on these, I wish I didn't. Just my two cents.

I think your issue is with the 2019 model as you said "former series". This one is the updated 2020 model so things must have changed.

@@konekjukel3340 Look at some of it's genuine reviews. Even _this_ specific model has reviews which state the battery, battery life, and performance is shit. Even so, HP Omen 15 has a lithium battery. My guy, lithium batteries haven't improved and HP is known for having faulty batteries. I think laptops in general aren't meant for gaming for these exact reasons (no way to properly cool the PC, which leads to a variety of issues), but the fact they advertise it as gaming laptops & rank up their prices is a no-brainer to me. But hey, if you like the model, by all means go ahead and buy it. I'm just sharing my experience and honest opinion to perhaps save someone €1.600 that I spent on the laptop. Wish I would had gotten even the desktop version of this computer instead. Oh well.

@@WildVee I agree with you. Desktops are the only ultimate way to game but if you think about it laptops give you a pretty good advantage that desktops don't which is mobility. The ability to be able to game on the move anywhere you want is really satisfying and you just don't get this with a desktop. With that being said almost all laptops have some kind of issue (battery life, consistent defects etc.) so it's really hard to decide which laptop to go for. I just want the **best** out of the bunch without costing a kidney. Have you considered returning and replacing your omen? Your defect might be an incosistent one as I really never heard anything negative about it until now.

@@konekjukel3340 I agree, yeah. The amazing thing about owning a laptop is mobility, it gives the opportunity to work & game from basically anywhere. However, I'd really use a gaming laptop as a secondary device you'd only use when traveling but again, considering the price point of these, not everybody has this luxury - I certainly don't, I only have this computer now, to do basically everything, from work to playing games. I feel you on that one. I'd definitely look around some more though before settling on this laptop, really try finding a model (of any brand) that has both a good cooling system, specs and general good reviews. I myself wouldn't know what to recommend though, but I find sites like Reddit a fairly decent place for reviews & opinions. Thanks for the advice! Though I don't believe I can return it, as in my country you do need probable cause to return a device especially after 2 years of usage, and even then it's usually labeled as your fault unless the device has already been broken/faulty since you've gotten it. Even with my inflated battery, though my computer is under warranty I was scared the repair shop would declare that as my fault and charge me for a new battery and installation but luckily that didn't happen. A few years down the line, I'll eventually save up again to buy a desktop and save my Omen laptop for traveling & emergency situations.. Haha. Good luck with your hunt, kind stranger!

If you want the exact same specs as the legion on amazon but spend $300 xtra, get the HP Omen. Or get the legion and swap to the 80w hr battery for $100 and save $200. I did a lot of research before I got the legion 5 and it doesn't get anywhere near 100 degrees. He may have just gotten a bad compound application. Just trying to share the knowledge ya'll.

@@rrch2951 heating is fine as long as you don’t block the vents lol. Battery is fine if you’re doing light tasks on battery saver, but I wouldn’t even try gaming without power. Edit: battery would be about 5-7 hours for streaming services and word kinda stuff, possibly more

Hey matt, can you do a review of Lenovo Ideapad Duet Chromebook - 128gb, Priced at $299 this has been such good 2nd device for me. I know iPads exist and I do have one at home and yeah it's more fluid but I'm a developer, I don't like the fact that you can't install apps like KZbin Vanced, download files properly, have a proper browser, download some torrents. All these are so easy on this chromebooks...and as Tablet for browsing and watching videos....this hash been just awesome. Do check it out

I've had this laptop for a few months this now, and overall I love it.. the screen Flex is not an issue at all. My only gripe is the battery life, I don't know how you get 6 hours, but the most I can get is 4 hrs on low power mode...and that's just doing minimal tasks like web browsing on Google Chrome. Really debating between this and the ASUS G14, what between the bigger screen at a still-reasonable body size and the lower price tag (400€ cheaper where I am for the 4800H-1660Ti config vs the G14's 4900HS-1660Ti, currently "only" 250 difference with seasonal discounts).. the chassis being plastic and possible longevity implications is really my only area of concern, though I'm very gentle with my stuff it is nice to have something that feels substantial and confident.

I am concerned about build quality! I currently have a 7 year old HP Envy 17 and it is literally falling apart! It is fine for performance since I upgraded the HDD to SSD 500GB. I will use it until it dies but I am not happy that the plastic case is falling apart while all the internal components are working fine! This laptop would probably last many years more if it wasn't for the weak case!

9th gen i5 is not much different then 10th gen i5. Plus you have the ability to undervolt your CPU for better temps with 9th gen = )

This is a great laptop, but so is the Lenovo Legion 5. Something strange happened with Matt's thermal testing with Legion. All other reviews have it going to 85-86 degrees in stress tests. So it was a faulty model, or there was something wrong with the drivers.

Trade off between Legion 5 @ $1k w/ 330nit monitor, decent battery and heating vs this same spec omen @ $1.3k. Price/performance would do Legion again.

I'm about to buy a laptop for gaming and streaming simultaneously and frankly, I would like to have your advice on which one should I choose and I found these laptops on Amazon which as follows; 1. Asus ROG Strix G15 I7-10750H, 16GB Ram, and RTX 2070. 2. Asus TUF AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with 32 GB Ram and RTX 2060. 3. Acer Predator Helios 300 i7-10750H 16GB Ram and RTX 2060. 4. MSI Creator 17M i7-10750H, 16GB RAM AND RTX 2060. 5. HP Omen 15 with the AMD processor that's in this video. Appreciate your help.

I'd choose between the ROG Strix (cause of the RTX 2070) and HP Omen 15. THe Omen 15 will handle streaming better but the ROG Strix will give you better FPS in the games you play

Get the Omen. G15 has some software issues, and the 2070 might move temps a bit higher. The Tuf A15 sucks generally, and imo, go for the Omen

I know this isn't about this product but I feel like you can help me with this. I recently just undervolted my rtx2060 omen i7- 10750h laptop via omen gaming hub and ever since I under volted it the temps are low but the CPU reads -2.6ghz in the gaming hub, voltage around .96 - 1.26, and temps around 35c - 60c. Is this normal?? I'm mostly concerned about the clock speed if anything. Before I did the under volt I remember the clock speed to be around 4.5ghz in the gaming hub command center. Please help, this my first premium gaming laptop and it was very expensive lol. Also hp said since I've done the undervolt it automatically voids the warranty which is weird to me considering that they have that option to do so readily accessible

I have an Omen 15 4800H Model. Sometimes the CPU clocks itself to 0 .38Ghz, even after the restarting it remains at same speed. I have to forcefully shutdown then turn on without plugged in. Wondering this happens with yours model as well.

It will lower fps, but I don't recommend the 60hz screen. It has pretty bad colors on it, while the 144hz has a really good display with good colors, viewing angles, and brightness.
