The system I have is the i7 11th Gen with a RTX 3060 6GB and 16GB of Ram. Absolutely love it. So fast, while the fans ramp up, its never too hot and confortable to use long term. :)

I recently got the hp omen 17 ck0013sa, My gripes are the track pad and no physical buttons, no HDD led and no GSync which is rather surprising on a new laptop like this [This model is 165Hz, QHD and the RTX 3070] - My old maching with 144Hz/RTX2070 did have GSync. I know the new one doesnt as when its connected to an external source the option appears in the NVIDIA settings - Its still a great machine however

Great job tearing it down and upgrading it. I have quite a few hp omen products including the Omen 17. I see in this video you also upgrade the RAM, and I was wondering, because on my Omen 30L I have found that HP do no like people upgrading their machines but let them anyway. If you upgrade the RAM on a 25L+ model desktop, the RAM will be hardlocked to 2400mhz speed. I don't know about laptops, but when you upgraded your RAM, did it cap your speeds? Or were they as high as their actual speeds?

Yes but no amount of heat sinks and pads will bring the NVMEs into the 40*c “preferred zone”. Mine run around 60-70*c with Thermal Grizzly pads and heat sinks. 2020 Omen 17t-cb100 i9/2080 Super. Very similar to the 2021.

The Omen website (not the HP website) lists a somewhat similar looking Omen 17 but with a bulkier chassis: with a numpad and a "neck" hinge that creates a gap between the laptop body and display (some previous Omens had the same neck thing going on). While it looks to be the last year's model - the page for it talks about 2000-series Nvidia graphics and 9-gen Intel CPUs - I wouldn't be surprised if they released a 2021 model with the same bulky chassis. The page says "Coming Soon" for it for some reason too.

I just ordered the Omen 17 with a 512 SSD boot drive and I looking to install additional one for storage. The primary drive supports gen 4, but the secondary only support gen 3? This laptop will support any M.2 ssd? There are so many labels and their different looking slots has me all confused.

Ok so I'm guessing my Omen 17 is a slightly cheaper build. It has the 16G ram but it has a 128G nvme SSD drive and a 1TB 2.5" HDD. It has an extra slot on the motherboard for an additional nvme drive but no connector. Can I add one or do I need to have it soldered on?

So, i have the exact same model. I had installed a 2tb SD and then each time i booted up my laptop, it would state an error with the CMOS battery. After a bout a week, it is now bricked. Hp support states the CMOS battery has to be replaced. Id like to do it myself instead of spending $538 ESTIMATE, but not sure where to locate it. Still in the beginning steps of research. Only just got off the phone about 15 minutes ago

Didn't like how HP dumped the numpad on the newer gen Omen. Per RGB is nice, you can have certain key illuminated for different apps over four zone RGB.

Yes I love per key for that reason. You can create different profiles for each different games. So you can set up key effects or static lighting for each app individually

I agree 100% on the i9 vs i7 build. I have the best buy. Version with the i7 and with XTU. I honestly feel 0 fomo not having the i9. It's honestly a monster either way... Also managed to find mine as an open box so it was only $1650... Not sure what else you can get with these specs for that low of a price... Have you been able to find any skins for this laptop?

Got it brand new on Amazon for $1,700. Ship and sold by Amazon. It came in a box with no padding and was moving around in there like crazy and the main omen box was beat to shhhh*t. But even with amazon’s lousy packaging job the laptop inside the main box was perfect. I love this laptop. It replaced a lousy lemon asus g15 I had and this omen is a massive huge upgrade over the lousy g15. And the g15 was the same price and the 17” omen.

Yeah the reason I started buying Omen was because its the cheapest laptop I could find with a dedicated graphics card (payed like $800 for my old g15 back in the day). Got the new 17 for $1630 from HP...it was on sale. Came with a nice headset too. I got it with 32g ram, so I didnt NEED the ram boost, but I wanted it ;)

First off thanks for the awesome video, it was super informative. But I’m very new to personal upgrading, and I just need to know if I have x2 8g DDR4 dims pre installed. Can I just take those out and replace them with x2 16g DDR dims? If so do I need to do anything else or just simply replace them both?

Hi I am wondering if both slots are compatible with double-sided ssd? From my research your 4.0 slot is double-sided with Rocket 4.0 Plus, and the 3.0 slot is with single sided with Rocket Q. Would love to know if I could use double-sided for the 3.0 slot, thanks!

Without heatsink because Omen comes with the heatsink in the motherboard. You can see in the video the copper or aluminum sheets. Update the firmware of your Samsung 980 NMVE if you buy, they are bugging.

What size Nvme will this laptop take omen 17-Cb1060nr… also reading, it says it can take 2.5 inch hard drive. I’m just confused on this laptop. Nmve is not SATA. NMVE is like ram modules. 2,5 is HDD Sata. This omen can have two NMVE m.2 and none SATA HDD. I think your model only can have one NVMe SSD and one HDD Sata, but I don’t really know it . You have to view more videos of Omen replacement to understand. Omen 2019 can have two NMVE m.2 and one 2.5HDD Sata

Ed? Does your BIOS correctly report with 64GB installed? I just got one of these while on sale for $400 off ($1400 delivery took 4 months). i7 with 3070. Came with 16 gb ram and upgrading ram to 64. I put in a couple of sticks of G.Skill F4-3200C22D-64GRS. CL22-22-22-52. Memory seems ok. Started memory test... but still waiting for it to finish. Windows is reporting 64 GB, but weirdly, BIOS of reporting 0 MB memory. Anyone else?

@@michaelkenefick not really. I have 64gb installed in my 17t-ck000 and it's working fine. The Bios screen still says 0 GB but the computer seems otherwise unaffected. The HP Support assistant & windows correctly reports 64 GB.

I just ordered the Omen 17 from HP and it's on its way. Should be delivered soon. However, the only one that was available on their website was the i7 with the 3060 GPU so I went with that. I hope that CPU are GPU are sufficient to do some photo editing and some minor video rendering, mostly 1080p. Thanks for the awesome video. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Why do you say this? Genuine question. I had someone close to me install a 2 tb ssd on this exact model. Started getting a CMOS battery issue each time I booted up the laptop. After a week, it's now bricked and can't get any bios recovery to work.
