I have an hp Omen 15 gaming laptop, and it gets very hot even if I am not playing games on it or running powerful software and also drains battery to fast
@Corleone00710 ай бұрын
HP Omen laptops do not have options of FAN switching off. Not always ON, means the bios will run FANs when needed. When system is quite loaded then they spin all the time, but on the battery when you do simple things , like watching YT movie in the bed, with special pad underneath (to not block air flow) then the laptop is silent. This is why FAN not always ON is good option. Because sometimes you don't want to hear noises from laptop. This is why bypassing it is not good, or it should be consulted with the client if that matters for him. Of course such solution is cheaper

Personally i would have taken on the challenge to track down the faulty component. That said, i have to respect the repair and i imagine the customer was happy to not pay for a longer job. Seeing a repair like this is probably more educational than watching Sorin play "hunt the mosfet" and repairing it 'properly'.

Movie cameras and lights has ability to turning off their fans for preventing noise when recording sound, probably the same for this laptop. Other than loosing turning off fans from BIOS, everything will work perfectly, he took a 5V from the point where is no voltage when laptop is off so fans will not draw power at laptop off. Fans control from temperature will not fill this change.

My only issue with this proper calibrated wire, it is now connected to the output of the regulator that supplies 5v to the fans which is obviously faulty and was supplying 3v instead of 5, so the regulator is faulty and should have been removed.
@davidlguerr11 ай бұрын
That is my concern as well. But even if the regulator fails completely, you always have the 5V supplied by the wire.

Yeah, the faulty part should be removed at least, as it tends to get hot and possibly cause more damage in the future (shorted main power rail, PCB burn e.t.c).

No. It does not work like that. It will work with the highest voltage, which is 5V and what is added are the amps. Example: if the original power source has a maximum of 100mA, and the power source added by Sorin has a maximum of 300mA, in total it can supply 300mA@5V.

absence of rpm data (caused by fan not spinning because of too low voltage provided)

There is voltage, but not the correct one. As the fan is not getting the nominal voltage, it will not spin, therefore the computer reads no RPM through the data wire, and displays error. The same error will happen if the fan's blades get stuck.

I turned on the 3rd fan speed on an old Acer laptop in Balanced mode. The new fan speed is quiet, and replaces the loud fan speed. The trick is, to choose a possible hibernation % that is usually 8% with a new battery. Later, it can go down to 1%. That is useless in real life, but secret functions turn on using the 1% hibernation.

Sorin, I really like your movies, but please kindly consider checking the schematics. In this case there is a broken element wchich probably could burn in case adding voltage from opposite site. I know you shown 0 Amps taken but something is faulty there. You can always bypass any voltages, but to be honest it seems that you even didn't like to take out the bord out, because it will take your 5 minutes of life. It's not the way like it should be done.
@ElMariachi133711 ай бұрын
He was looking for a chip, which I assume he knows from experience was causing this fault. These are probably one of those special chips which can hardly be bought for replacement unlike the regular mosfets/coils or standard power chips which are used on a more common base and therefore a lot easier to get as a spare part. So even if he found the faulty chip he could most likely not have it replaced since all the big laptop pruducers are protecting their market/products by not sharing whatever components they are using with the rest of the world. The only other solution would have been to send it to a HP repair centre, but they don't do this kind of component level repairs, they just swap out your motherboard for a big chunk of money.
@grzegorzw504211 ай бұрын
@@ElMariachi1337 Maybe he was joking, but he said he searched for one minute only on one side of the bord. There can be some resistor, or other thinigi between KBC which probably generates this signal. I believe he could easily get the schematic or even boardview, make checking, and repair it correctly or at least remove faulty element that causes voltage drop.
@davidlguerr11 ай бұрын
Clearly you do not understand that by adding another voltage in parallel will not be the sum of both voltages, but rather the highest one. So "the broken element" will be at the same voltage.

so, basically, the 5v track for fans is not switched properly or is partially shorted. you said that the fans will not stop anymore. false. the fans are digitally controlled! if PWM signal is zero, then, they will not spin! i find this job very dodgy! instead of searching for the real problem. remember: you have a thermal camera! is just my opinion! 👍
@Drottninggatan201711 ай бұрын
Zorin made a difference between PWM and "digitally controlled". I don't know how digitally controlled works. Is there a controller on the fan? If it is PWM then a controller is modulating the pulses, and obviously we can not feed that with 5V. Strange that it was 3V if it should be 5V. But the fix worked, didn't it?
@adaniel6911 ай бұрын
@@Drottninggatan2017 if is controlled with PWM or with clock and data, it doesn't matter. probably the EC chip does this. but is just a signal from EC chip. if the fan doesn't have power(5Volt), is not working. also, if it has power but no PWM or clock and data, is also not working. he should took the board out and search where the tracks are going! most likely would found the problem. but, he takes shortcuts.....
@grzegorzw504211 ай бұрын
@@adaniel69 You are right. Probably there is some faulty element that causes voltage drop to 3V..5V is taken probably directly from main 5V so there is no current limitation. I think in some time something will be burned there.
