if the LCD is dark but it works on an external display, this means there is a problem with either the connector cable or the LCD panel itself. There is no inverter in Laptops with LED backlights because LEDs do not require one, they run off of DC power lust like the rest of the laptop. Inverters were used in older laptops with florescent backlights because florescent bulbs require AC power. try and see if a connection has come loose, you can find dissasembly instructions on HPs website.

So, my back-light is an LED. I have a HP G42-415. The LED back-light flickers and sometimes I have to wait several minutes before it comes back on. It's annoying. I'll just order a new screen panel, install it myself and see if the issue is resolved. It should be since it's only connected by one simple cable. I don't want to remove any of the white paper in the back.

Can you slightly see what's on the screen if you look really hard or shine a flashlight at the screen? I'm having the same issues. If you've resolved your issue, please respond. I strongly believe it's my backlight/CCFL bulb/lamp that needs replacing. I know they fade over time just like in an LCD TV you'd have to replace the same exact thing over about three years and the TVs go through the same flickering until you replace the lamp light. You can get them cheap but self installation is best.

Can you tell me specifically what the problem can be on the motherboard? When I connect the laptop to an external monitor, the picture is bright and how it's supposed to be. The laptop boots normally and so the OS. I only need the LED back light to turn on again. Will a new video cable do that?

I have an Hp dv9 computer. It is a 2007 model. Can you replace the black plastic frame around the screen? My plastic frame is cracked and can only be useable at a 90 degree angle, if moved, the screen goes black and will need to be manually shut off.

I have the same laptop as the video, the screen randomly turns off while the rest of the laptop is still working, this is geting annoying and I hope this gets a solution I dont know whats wrong with it.

Lol this is gonna sound so freakishly untrue. Now do note that I had been viewing a lot of laptop reviews and modifications on youtube. Anyway I had just come back from a vacation and I kinda tossed my laptop on my bed and well I had my mini head phones between my laptop's keyboard and screen and the force ended up cracking the bottom right side of the screen. I get on my desktop today *2 days after accident* This video is in the recommended section for me to view lol.

Hi, My G42-415DX display works but it's dark. Apparently the LED back light doesn't work. I looked for a LED inverter (which powers on the LED lights, but I can't seem to find one). What should I replace in my case? The whole screen, the video cable or the inverter (in case it has one). Please advise A.S.A.P. Many Thanks

My laptop screen got wet,(thanks to my stupid cat. :C) not cracked now all I see is a grey-ish hue. will replacing the screen work? or would I have to buy a new laptop.
