Ahhhh TechFixIT - thanks so much! Been pulling out my hair. I'm using a work laptop so restricted in what I can and cannot do via the Control Panel - removing and reinstalling the printer did the trick!

FIVE STARS! This is the type of support needed meaning we need several (5) options to try. The only one that worked for me was using the IP address. It takes about 10 seconds longer for the printer to connect with the job, but whatever. Nothing else could connect the two. HP support sucks. They offer nothing free except paid support - their online solutions don't work at all. With all the problems of their products, I would never buy HP again. I will find better working hardware and software. Don't have the time for such troubleshooting. You made it awesome and easy - keep up the great work!

HP printers are flawed, at least the Envy series, reviews support this. Take it back or smash it with a sledge hammer to vent the frustration of sitting for hours troubleshooting only to have the problem re-appear one week later..

These are all bandaids and do not get at the core problem which is why is this happening when yesterday all was well? Are updates from MicroSoft doing this? What kind of sloppiness either with the software, with the updates, or with the technology in general is causing this? This is lame.

Cool. The first solution worked. I can't stand the fact that printers don't have cables. Only having wi-fi makes it inferior. My old printer had wi-fi, a cables, usb port and also memory card. This is devolution.

In 2023 HP created this problem - I guess it was an automatic update. They somehow changed the name of the printer to something I had never used: HP Smart Printing. The old name which was the default printer for a couple of years, now is off line. Changing the default printer to the new name fixed the problem. HOW COULD HO DO SUCH A DUMB THING !!!! I changed nothing - that new name is completely unknow. HP update must have done it. Took quite a while to find this - other solutions, including finding printers, didn't help. But final fix very easy

On the Devices area, the laptop I have shows up on there but on the printer only the Fax, Print to PDF, and Document Writer show up not the "Printer" itself....do you have a solution to this? PLEASE...

For most people the problem seems to be in the printer itself, since rebooting the printer always fixes the problem. So any of these solutions are useless.

Same happened to me. I went into settings removed the printer then added again. Made sure Offline was Unchecked. It fixed the problem... for now :-)

My computer said that task was not supported. (Configure Port). This is the printer they will not let you hardwire to computer and it is the default. This printer hibernates and now it will not come out of if after reinstalling it.

After deleting my printer, computer cannot reinstall the printer because the computer cannot find the printer. I do not know where I can get the IP address of my printer to plug in. Neither the port name.
