Re arranged my entire living room to give me a 4mx3m play space and installed a ceiling pulley system. Now I just need the wheel and chair for pc3 so get that video up id love to see your new setup. @The Kenshi dude never oh man your in for a treat. Number 1 vr accessory no one ever mentions.... Drum roll.... REALLY GOOD FANS. It gets so hot. I played beat saber for 4 hours straight last night must have put 2 gallons of water in me and sweated 4 gallons out. Having a few good cyclone fans around you blowing cold air right at you helps to keep the moisture around your face down. A ceiling pulley system helps too just hooked mine up yesterday FINALLY. I makes the world of difference no more stepping on cords or it sticking to my back and getting in the way. Good luck with the new set hope it ships soon.

Yes, but what about us with no display port! I have a 2018 Acer predator Helios 300. Which has no mini display port or display port, although I have a1060 gtx graphics card! Any example of this running through a converter to run the headset in a pc without display port?

SDE is a physical effect due to the pixels having gaps between them, not a software problem. Half resolution will just make the image blurrier, but there won't be any weird problems with the screen.

For anyone still wondering...I have a ryzen 5 2600, 16gb ram and a 3060 12gb rtx and a Reverb G2. I can run MSFS at 115% open XR resolution (much more than full res) and have the Sim settings between medium to high. It is butter smooth and I'm so glad I took the risk. It is way beyond worth it and blows oculus quest 2 away with the clarity and smoothness of the Sim. I'm incredibly stoked. The new s10 and NVIDIA updates are a real game changer with DLSS set to balanced I'm getting mostly solid 30fps and 25fps in huge cities. What a time to be alive!

Thanks Sebastian this is the video I have been waiting to see. I have pre-ordered the G2 but currently running an RTX2060 with a Quest using link or Virtual Desktop. My biggest gripe is the SDE so really happy to see this dramatically reduced in the G2. I can can overclock the RTX2060 so will probably be able to run some games at full rez but I guess its gonna be try it and see but I will be content until I upgrade to a Rtx3080 later. Keep up the great work!

If Alyx will support Dlss 2.1(it's works with VR), then there will be no problem to play Alyx on full res. Just have a look, what dlss 2.0 make with game "Control". The game gains even 100% more FPS!

A 1070 was the minimum requirement of the Rift (S). Even at half resolution the G2 has many more pixels than the Rift, so you can savely assume that a 1070 isn't enough to power a G2.

What is half resolution in terms of render tagret resolution in SteamVR? What is 1.0x resolution in SteamVR? "half-res" could mean either 1.44x less x and z resolution or 2x less in each direction, so it isn't really straightforward. The target resolution is really important, if the barrel distortion correction is the same as with Index, we have 3k x 3k each eye render frame, if it's like G1 it's 2208 x 2160, it's a massive difference.

This is super useful information! Do you have any data on the performance impact/improvement on the GPU (and also CPU) when using full vs half-resolution modes? How big of an FPS (or really frame times) difference is there? Could you also do some comparison to the Samsung Odyssey+ at 150% or 200% SuperSampling? How does that compare to the Reverb G2 at half and full resolution as well as the performance impact on the system? I'm just curious if the visuals on the Samsung at 150% might be comparable or even better than the G2 at half-resolution or full-resolution since the Samsung is an OLED, has the anti-SDE filter, a wide FOV, and will be running at a higher resolution when at 150% or higher SS. The Samsung does lack the RGB sub-pixels so I feel like it would be an interesting comparison just in terms of visuals!

SweViver has through the lens video that makes it look like 8K X is better clarity than Reverb (G1), but an overseas friend of mine who has both says that Reverb still has noticeably better image clarity for reading gauges and such. What are the connectors? I have the RTX 2080Ti and when it came out it was said VR would benefit from it's USB Type-C connector yet I've never seen a VR headset with it. I can see it would be better for power maybe for higher hertz headsets but don't remember what it was actually meant to improve.

The new lenses just mean better clarity but what you are talking about sounds like the IPD slider which is just a slider that changes the distance between the lenses. So you just move the slider until the picture is as clear as possible.

Sir have you tried the VR Performance toolkit V0.2.2? It seems to vastly improve performance and perceived resolution in windows vr headsets. I use the gtx1080 with the Samsung Audessey+ and it's helped quite a bit.

I was looking at an Index... but after seeing the subreddit ehhhh no... lol. Some serious customer service issues it seems. I have a Rift S, got it about 2 weeks ago and a new rig 4 days ago, got my wife the 256gb Quest 2 with Elite Headstrap and it bugged out her eyes and gave her headaches. So i'm sitting on a pile of cash now and seriously considering this headset. Her Quest 2 was my first VR experience and while it definitely blew me away to be IN the game, it was everything i hoped and more being a kid of the 80's and seeing all the movies/sci fi promising this tech seemingly way after my time... i loved it so much i instantly knew i needed to get a sharper image and higher FoV asap. I COULD wait for the new headsets to roll out next year or whatever but... yeah idk. When i play on Rift S it feels a lot better than the Quest 2 in both terms of comfort and clarity (though i never tried hooking Quest up to a PC) But it still feels like i'm in a box, the FoV is just really limited, when i learned that the FoV gets much larger on the more expensive headsets i was pretty much sold on something new. This looks like a smarter buy than the Index, even at half resolution which is what i'll be stuck with for now seeing as i only have a RTX2060. Now i wish i could have sprung for the better card. Oh well.

i think i figured it out. Keep my base stations and wands for downstairs (more space) buy the g2 to replace my og vive and use it upstairs in the sim rig. This way i could cover two scenarios by using g2 with vive wands. But its more expensive than index and has lower fov......im lost.

HI, great video - can you give me advise?Need to choose Rift S, G2 or Quest 2 for my simracing and regular play - Ryzen 5 laptop with RTX 3060 6gb......what resolution and details is posible and what you suggest?

I gues you have 16 GB of ram... 1) Rift S - dont buy it. Not supported by oculus anymore. New games will not run properly. My personal experience with RIFT S is that it is not good for sim (to low res; objects in front of you are blurry, cars 100m in front of you looks like in grant turismo 2) and it disapointed me with many errors (black screen, USB power limitation...) 2)You should choose between G2 or Q2. It is hard recomend because i heve never tried those two. My guess... a) Will you buy new powerful laptop / PC with hiend GPU soon? take G2. One of the best VR headset for sim players. b)Will you stick with that laptop? take quest 2 (mobile RTX 3060 6GB - cant run 100% res g2, not even Q2 in my opinion), you save some money and you will have standalone VR with better tracking. Just dont expect miracles. VR is more performance demanding than 4K... 3)Ask the comunity of the game you want to play what do they think before you buy it. If you bought your VR already let me know how does it work? I am looking for some VR too.

Do you happen to know if an RTX 2070 Super Max Q will run this a full res?

it should do, but a lot of games would be at low settings or even using reprojection (half fps). i have a 2070 super and lenovo explorer (1440x1440 per eye vs g2 at 2160x2160 per eye) and i run most games at least 140% super sampled at mostly low settings with some high (sim racing games that is, like dirt rally 2.0 and project cars 2) and get mostly locked 90fps. other games like onward play fine maxed settings and 170% supersampling. less intensive games like boneworks and half life alyx will be easier to run. and then even less intensive games like superhot, rick and morty etc etc. cartoony type games should run easy even on g2 at high settings etc. i personally will be upgrading to an rtx3XXX series gpu before the reverb g2. but thats because i play the more demanding kind of games (like sim racing) and need locked 90fps to not feel sick. but for your average vr user i reckon a 2070 suepr should be fine? i dont know. (this is all my guessing though.) but anyway. i gave yo some information. it may or may not be useful ;-)

my headset at say 150% ss = 1440x1440 = 2,073,600 + 50% = 3,110,400 (resolution at 150%) - (just an example of what i know i can run.) reverb g2 = 2160x2160 = 4,665,600 hmmm. okay. so if i add +120% to my headset, i get 4,561,920 which is close enough. that means i would have to run at steam vr supersampling of 220% to render the same amount of pixels? i suck at maths. am i doing this right? wow though. if i did do that right (kinda doubt it, lol) that means i will definitely be needing a new gpu if i want to keep running games the way i do now... native res on g2 is 220% sueprsampling on my lenovo explorer. which i couldnt do on any game except maybe simple cartoon style games (which there are a lot of i guess). but on my favourite games... hell no. not even at low settings. daaaamn yo. would be ok i guess if i was happy to run in reprojection at 45fps. but im not. i know plenty of people do play like that though, so its definitely still an option for them. just not for me.

i could have just multiplied the 150% instead of adding 50% couldnt i... like multiplying it by 1.5 instead of adding 50%. oh well. whatever works.

Yeah, i said that since weeks to people with weak graphic power, good to have a video now that shows that. :D But do not forget: your graphic card must have a DisplayPort version at lest of 1.3. DP 1.2 will not work with the G2. Someone already asked for DP1.2. Even with half resolution, that is only the internal resolution, but the output resolution is still 2160 x 2160 pixels and for that amount of data you need DP1.3+.

So ive had the HP REVERB for 0ver 6 months now and its never been out of its box because i just can't get an RTX 3080 which ive been told is the best card for this headset, can you recommend an AMD Card that will run this Headset as good as the 3080 ?

Can you still choose the full resolution even if you have a card for half resolution, or is it automatically disabled?

Can i ask why you decided to show off the final weapon unlocked in half life rather than the 1st. I've done so well avoiding what it is so far and I didnt even get a chance to avoid it here

Waiting for oculus quest 2 or buying HP G2.. after CV1 both would be a huge improvement. Although im on 1070 laptop (which btw handles Alyx on ultra with no problem)... wondering what kind of FPS would i get anywhere on half or full res.

According to the website, The G2 Full resolution is 2160 x 2160, is it safe to assume that half resolution is 1080 x 1080? Shouldn't the rift s at full resolution of 1080 x 1200 per eye technically look sharper than the 1080 x 1080 half resolution of G2? I have a gtx 1660 super and not going to upgrade anytime soon and looking to get into vr. Would greatly appreciate any advice regarding which headset to get.

It should, in theory. You should take what you see in this video with a grain of salt, recording video off a display through a VR lens is very difficult to do without bringing in a lot of artifacts that stem from the recording itself and not the headset. This video itself shows inconsistent visual results from the same headset as he couldn't get the camera to focus right.

Thanks Sebastian for the video. I think the only evaluation that is missing is the possible use of the G2 at 60 Hz. How about making another video? :)

Can anyone let me know the inside with of the headset. Looking to tell if glasses will fit. They fit in the g1 but just as I have fairly large frames.

Ok, am I going crazy or did you show what the FPS is for the G2 at full resolution vs half resolution? Ok to assume half resolution will yield ~2X the FPS for a lower end rig?

I don´t understand why half resolution is only availible for certain gpus? I have the 1080 nvidia and can see a few situations where I might want to use it. Anyway, good video once again! My preorder is in! You really should get a comission from HP.

Full Res = 2160x2160 per eye, So half is 1080x 1080? or is it 2160 x 1080 ?there is no date on this anywhere :(

do you think on a gtx 1070 you could do a little higher than half? Can't you put it on like 70 percent or something. or is it either 100 or r50 options only? I ask because you mentioned steams super sampling. Can't you put basically any resolution in that?
