Great review. I ordered one of these yesterday. The only other person I saw complain about the track pad was the LTT video. Most people seem to have no issues with the track pad, so it may just be defective. That part about pretending to use the laptop made me laugh. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are people out there that would spend $1600 or more on a laptop and go to the local coffee shop just to show it off without actually needing it.

Fun Fact about Windows HP: you have a thing on the right side where you can change the sound, or the battery, etc. there is another thing called tablet mode and if you click on it switches your screen to the side so you can have it in 3 ways, laptop mode, tablet mode, and side mode ( i don't know another word for it).

Yeah this was pretty helpful. I have this laptop and it's pretty cool and works well...till now I didn't face the touchpad problem but I do have a issue with the brightness.. other than this it's an amazing laptop . It's for sure worth it and I am a person who does these digital illustration a lot ..and it does work pretty well. ✨

Is battery life a big deal for you? What about power.. how much do you need? Does lack of screen brightness bother you? Put it this way if you watched this review and none of the cons I listed bother you then pick this one up! It has enough computing power to get done anything you want to do UNLESS you start veering off into resource hungry activities.

I bought mine from Best Buy a few days ago. I haven't opened the box yet just in case. The one that I bought is hp Spectre X360 13t with i5, 8gb ram, intel iris plus, and 256Gb SSD. It is a 4k Amoled display. It is a touch screen 2 in 1 as well. It also has Alexa built-in (not sure if thats a Best Buy exclusive or not.. ) I got it on sale for $850 but it usually costs $1250 with that same specs. Question: Is my laptop good enough for video editing on Filmora 9? (Not professional editing but more like editing KZbin videos kind of editing...) I wish I would have the 16GB ram but if I go with the same 4K model with i7/16 ram/1T it would cost me around $1,800! So a big difference in price. What are your thoughts on this?

No I'm sorry 8gb won't be sufficient for you. At some point you'll start to notice your computer choking. But it's not just the ram, the processor and Gpu also need to be equipped to handle content creation. Are you planning on working with 4k files at any point? Remember in the computer world you literally get what you pay for. The more you spend the more you get.

@@JideaniSayz Thank you for replying. I am planning on doing 4k videos/vlogs on occasions but mostly 1080p for now. I am using Filmora 9 to edit my videos but I want to try Davinci Resolve and other editing software but I know they do consume more power than Filmora. I have an old 2015 Lenovo Thinkpad 14 that is i5 6gen, 8GB ram and have an Nvidia graphics card and I have edited some videos successfully on Filmora 9 but other times the software has crashed on a few occasions. The spectre is so nice of a device and so beautiful! But that $1,800 price to be able to get the lastest specs is unfortunately out of my price range. Maybe I if I look at other 'lower' end models like the pavilon or lenovo 740 it would be cheaper... 🤔💻

Ok so I hear you but all I have is bad news 😔. I use davinci resolve, it's really good.. Actually it offers the best bang for the buck especially considering it has a FREE version that'll do everything you need it to do. But the system you have now and the system you're shopping for (lower end) won't solve your problems, granted most top end video editing softwares crash from time to time (it's just in their nature) your system can contribute mightily to crashes. If you want to edit 4k videos you'll need content creating laptops or a plain old desktop. Even if it's just 1080p vids they softwares consume heavy ram and rely mightily on Gpu and Cpu power. There are also other factors to consider when shopping for a system for content creation. Check out the video I did on the Gigabyte Aero, it explains some of these considerations.

My husband has a custom-built computer with 24GB ram and a dedicated Nvidia graphics card that he use heavily for gaming. I might borrow his computer when he is not using it hehe. At least that's an opinion for now until I can buy a better laptop in the future.

Great review! I love everything about this laptop other than the touchpad!! The first Microsoft 360 I bought I had to have it replaced because of the touchpad. They gave me a new one and it started acting crazy on the new one. I finally bought a mouse but I'm TOTALLY disappointed about the touchpad . I want to get another one but I'm concerned I will have the same problem. How do we know when Microsoft upgrades the 360 and improves on the touchpad?

Yeah to be honest I think most Webcams on laptops are bad since they're only 720p which this one is.

Def the XPS. It's just a more rounded laptop. Watch my review on the XPS for more info but I was rooting for the Spectre because it's such a beautiful device.

It's a beautiful laptop, no doubt. I have the 15 inch. I agree with you regarding some of its downsides. For photographers, a full size SD slot would be more useful. Another USB-A port would be good too. I ended up getting a USB C hub which allows me to have access to additional USB-A ports as well as a full size SD card slot. After owning the laptop for 5 months, one of the hinges became misaligned and popped out. When the unit came back from the service centre where the hinge was repaired, the trackpad stopped working. HP sent a replacement, but I noticed the trackpad on the replacement unit felt loose and made a clicking noise when scrolling with it; not sure if that's just the way the spectre touchpads are. I went into Best Buy to test out the touchpads of other makes and they all seemed to feel tighter.

I use my pc all day without giving a rest of even single minute and sometimes i use it more than 24 hours like right now it is 5:50 AM and my current pc is running from 11:20 AM I use Adobe,VS Studios and also I play AAA Games. So, i think that AMOLED would not be a good choice for me and the 10th gen is already slower than 9 gen using 9 gen with 1060 is a better choice than 10th gen with 1060, most commonly no problem of loosing clock speed right after putting some high load on it.

This was a great review! You mentioned in the comments that an updated version of this same model is coming out soon with precision drivers which you said HP caved into finally. Yes they did but HP didn't mention if they were making the change for their existing laptops so I'm not sure but moving forward all new HP laptops would use Precision drivers.

They have a sale going on. I just ordered the HP Spectre 360 15.6 4k i79750H 512 SSD 16 GB RAM and GTX 1650 for $1400. I had the MX150 one. Was going to get a XPS 15 but hundreds of reviews are saying how they keep crashing, throttling, and disconnects to WiFi. Never had a problem with my current HP.

Remember go with the 2 n 1 xps. That's the one that has stylus support. The 2019 XPS is touch screen and "should" work with a stylus as well but I haven't tried it.

Another con about buying this laptop is that you won't find a good protective case for it. Gumdrop does not have a specialized case for this model. If you know you are clumsy, I would not recommend buying this laptop. Other than that it's a great purchase.

@@harshmohanh2268 in total, I think it's great. I only slightly browsed for the touch pad software change. I didn't come around a to easily do so without messing with the warranty with bios adaptations, but Synaptics didn't bug me at all. I did eventually get a wireless mouse for at home use of the pc, but when I'm out, either working or at school, I've yet to become irritated with the pad. I just don't have a problem with the Synaptics pointing drivers. I did have an 2017 Asus with Microsoft precision drivers before the spectre, and the only differences I enjoyed with the Asus were the glass covered touch pad, and the pad was 1/4" taller. The driver change never came to mind with owning this HP, (the Asus eventually had other problems that led me to question the brand) * The issue that this video was showing with unresponsive movements/touches NEVER happens to me.

Hi I think you are absolutely right with the touchpad issue. I tried to install the synaptics driver on it. It worked very well for few days but after getting a windows update it stopped working. I am using the Hp spectre x360 13 inch variant (late 2018)

Ehhh I doubt it. I think the mouse has codes written to only recognize Bluetooth connectivity from the dongle it's programmed to. I'm not sure that you can treat it like a regular BT device that your computer can connect to. But I could be wrong.

I love the spectre had the 2018 15" with the mx150 gave to my dad got tired of carrying a 15" and went with the 2019 13" gemcut. And my sister has the 2018v13" i love this laptop i do wish it had fullsize sd card. Also i did the precision driver hack all i have to do is download the drivers for the elitebook 1040 g5 there the most updated and windows update wont override them. Also if done correctly i notice my mouse no longer shows up under mouse devices but under human interface devices. These laptops dont get enough credit and i get alot of comments on it when i do have it out.

Hinges was slanted, bad coil wind. 1 not all the speakers worked because these systems are quad speaker setup. I returned so many they told me to get a mac and i can return anymore.

@@navinbabji there's no simple answer to that again since it depends on several factors including what configuration you get and what you're trying to get out of the laptop. The touch pad, display, speaker and build are all better on the xps in addition to software tuning. Design, battery, versatility and keyboard are all better on the Spectre. So you'll have to prioritize what matters most to you considering both laptops were speced out.

I’ve seen tons of reviews on this laptop and pretty much everyone agrees that the touchpad does need a little work but I don’t think anyone’s was as bad as the one u got so it just might be defective. At least that’s my sincere hope cuz I REALLY want this for Christmas but a touchpad THAT bad would definitely be a deal breaker.

I have this laptop, 15" and i dont know if it is bad enough to not get it given what i give value to, but you will know for your case. I will mention that i actually use it with a mouse because it is more ergonomic in general. I work at an office and use it for school as well. having a mouse is just better for me. hope my comment helps. cheers

It might be the gpu. Remember the Spectre has last year's 1050 ti gpu. It isn't that powerful. Also the clock speed for the processors can factor in pricing. There's so many reasons.

Yeah I think I was one of the few who got a bad one. I just think that's part of the problem with using a Synaptics driver's for the touchpad, it isn't consistently good. Glad they moved to precision TouchPads

Yup! I heard about the upgraded version that's coming out. Only thing is I don't know if it'll have a brighter display and I hate there's only 1 USB A port. @@DavidDavid-qx9ng Apple laptops are generally optimized better because the system speaks one language thus allowing it to be more efficient BUT it does come down to execution because if this laptop didn't have the issues I mentioned I'd def go with the Spectre because I love design and build. Everyone's different.

@@JideaniSayz I have just bought hp Specter 13" but I feel like keys are tiny and sometimes I miss to press the right key. Also aspect ratio doesn't give the impression of high end laptop

Gotcha. Well the version I reviewed is the 15" which has bigger keys since it's an overlap bigger laptop. I avoid small slap tips for these type of reasons. Did you buy the 2020 Spectre version or the 2019?

The touchpad is definitely a thing! A moth into having it, the touchpad started to act up. I have to say I'm really disappointed. My first and last hp product.

I would still return it. A machine that cost 1k+ shouldn't have this issue in 2020. There will be times where you'll need to move around with the laptop and can't quite use the mouse.

@@hectormartinez-vm7rq - I ordered a 13" Spectre directly from HP in early Nov 2020. It's due to arrive in early December, next week. I didn't get 4k display, just configured it to more RAM, better processor and Intel Iris Plus Graphics. I am not a gamer and I don't make or edit videos, just a lot of regular tasks that are not high demanding. I really like HP. My better half has been using Envy's for several years now, buying them pre-configured directly from Best Buy, and they have been really reliable with heavy usage. After doing some more research on the Spectres and seeing some feedback/reviews from various people, including Jideani Sayz, - I am not sure I am going to keep it once it arrives. I found a really good deal on an Asus 15.5" Zenbook Flip 4k entry level gaming laptop - so I bought it. It was even less money than the 13" Spectre and is more power than I probably will ever need. I am leaning towards keeping the Asus and returning the Spectre, and I will just pay the restocking fee. Besides the touchpad issues on the Spectres, I have read many reviews about the hinges on the smaller spectres that can be misaligned, and some problems with the displays, and a couple other issues. I am also unsure about dealing with HP's customer service if I ever needed to go that route. I have heard horror stories about that as well. Then again, this is the first Asus product I have ever owned, but I know several people who have owned Asus laptops and they have been reliable ownership experiences. After a decade of owning macs, I just want a break from Apple for various reasons. Sorry for long-winded message, just having trepidation about the switch back to PC, but I sure as hell don't want to stay with Mac anymore.
