I got mine from Bestbuy for $199 plus the $149 keyboard back in Nov. I love mine. I use mine as a 2nd monitor for my work laptop when I travel. It is also my back up when I travel.

Bought a defective one (for as far as I can find out, this device was never sold in Europe) from eBay, that actually turned out to be suffering a loose touch controller cable :P. 75 euro's. The only thing that seems to not exist as a separate product at certified reseller parts for HP is the magnetic keyboard. For the work that I do (Excel stuff) it can be practical to have, but I have been unable to find it. While I definitely do not complain for 75 euro's, because I also wanted to draw on it and bought a second hand pen, and I replaced Windows with Linux (Lubuntu) which actually works remarkably well (there are some caveats to look at), the keyboard would mostly be a nice to have.

Thanks for answering the question regarding whether Linux will work on this tablet. That was the one thing I couldn't find the answer to anywhere else.

Lubuntu for me is the interesting distro (I could not get Arch installed, it refused to acknowledge the right partitions to be installed to) on this thing for being so light-weight, while some of the functions are actually detected (touch-screen) but require configuration and fiddling (which can be the "small things that don't work or don't work as expected"-thing with some Linux distro's). Elementary and Fedora Workstation worked much better for gesture recognition but both are about as heavy on RAM usage as Linux is, so to me not exactly practical.

I like the keyboard positioning. Sometimes, I want to go portrait mode to have two apps open in a stacked formation on my Surface Go, but that means I cannot use the keyboard. I also like how small the bezels are compared to my current laptop.

Do you mean the surface pro 5....no USBC is a bummer. I guess you can get a surface connect to USBC adapter. Although, Even a refurbish surface Pro 7 8/128 and i5 could be had for the same money, I imagine.

If you look, the pro 7 has been in the 500$ range WITH the keyboard lately. Without, you can find it 5-600$ all day long. That'll dominate this hp in performance. These 'silver' cpus are basically the politically correct way to say- Atom.

Not bad but do wish this hit a lower price point for the full package. I think many who just want a tablet will orient themselves to other wider options. Those who want a fixed keyboard laptop can get a budget setup for less money with more powerful specs. If it was $399 with the keyboard and stylus I think it would be a hot seller.

@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster 8 ай бұрын
While I don't use this with Windows: I went through 2 Linux installs from 100% charge, and after about 3,5 hours I was down to 64%. I can NOT obtain that with an ARM device at all. The battery makes up about 75% to 80% of the total volume inside (I bought a "defective" one and had to open it up to check out the touch control cable which jumped out of the motherboard connector, it works flawless, but as a result I saw the battery which is absolutely massive). The only thing I don't have is the keyboard, but that's not the biggest concern.

I ended up installing Windows 10 on mine, Windows 11 was ABSOLUTELY atrocious for it's specs. I needed to have 11 installed to backup the drivers because finding them online for 10 was impossible. But Windows 10 runs 10x better on this tablet, and it's wonderful for small productivity or just daily web browsing and YT videos.

Besides being made by HP, is this related to the Chromebook x2 11? They look similar, and both lack backlighting on the keyboard. The features like the camera and side mounting suggest it isn't a budget model, so no backlight seems a weird choice.

The parts list on the HP Parts Picker does not mention this keyboard being used on that particular Chromebook, it does however is used on some laptops, from what I was able to find.

Lubuntu works. I haven't checked out KZbin video yet. 1440p is pretty useless, because the horizontal resolution won't be met, so it would need to scale.

@@AndrewGreenaway I put Linux on it (Lubuntu to be precise) but also tried Elementary OS. Both made the thing a WHOLE lot snappier than on the Windows 10 install that was on it (yes, I know they should come with 11, I bought a "defective" one that had a loose touch board cable inside, and I think the previous owner wanted to see if reinstalling Windows would fix things, and put 10 on it instead of 11, causing things to break). Lubuntu shines (470MB memory usage) and there's actually gesture recognition, you need to configure it, because it uses Qt, instead of Gnome or Wayland. (I will add I don't have the keyboard).

When orientation detection is not superimportant, and some small things you need to setup (virtual keyboard), Lubuntu on this thing is pretty cool and lightweight (around 470 MB's in RAM after bootup, so a lot more room then with Windows 11 on it). It is actually decently fast for me at least.

Only 4gb ram version!
@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster 8 ай бұрын
Nah, I just think this product might not have sold very well because of the low RAM usage. To me the processor is more than fine for what I do with it (Excel stuff at work and drawing at home) but it's the ram that requires you to be careful. Krita on Lubuntu works very well and with a 600 ppi A4 document open the tablet still wasn't swapping to the swap partition, and after putting in quite some strokes it still wasn't doing that. You need to remember that things that stay in stock to long also cost you as a company: it takes up space, and the longer it is there, the less value it holds. While the days of buying computer equipment and having severely outdated stuff in your hands the moment you walked out the door have changed, 4GB of RAM is superconservative to modern standards, so you can expect a device like this, at a possible heavy price point to not sell well. So at some point a store will make a decision to start selling it to clear the inventory for new products that'll sell better. (Also keep in mind that this product, at least with the pencil and tablet as a combination will contain at least 1 or 2 batteries: a big Lithium-ion cell, and an AAAA one for the pen. Even though protective packaging with the last and a storage charge for the tablet one will keep it good for a while, it won't last like that forever.)

Easier/cheapier to manufacture, along with it being easier to make them sort of droplet-waterproof. Also safer because you can't simply plug anything in to hack it. I put Lubuntu on mine and had to really mess around to get it to actually boot that (but that's also me not having a lot of USB-C equipment, this is my first USB-C PD device).
