Just bought refurbished version of this laptop, and its battery don't really last long and needed to be replaced. I did some research on Internet about replacing battery and its say this laptop is quite easy to replace the battery and even able to upgrade its RAM and GPU, which most laptop nowdays have their GPU and battery soldered and some has RAM soldered. So thanks for the tutorial.

I wouldn't exactly call the gpu upgradeable. Replaceable is more like it.

I purchased a refurbished g3 just like this from Amazon a year ago. I tried to do a reset to clean it up for my husband to use for music. Anyway it now seems I have an encrypted hard drive and Microsoft told me to replace it. I came to see how to get the back off but now I’m not sure the replacement hard drive I purchased was right because your not showing a big square other than what’s in the corner. Is that the hard drive?

Ok so there are 2 m.2 slots, the wireless card slot, but do you know what that 4th slot is for?

There are two m.2 slots (one going left one going right) and a WiFi* slot (which is situated parallel to one of the m.2 slots), but idk what the 4th slot is for. It's the one pointed towards the top of the keyboard/screen. Wish I could post a picture to clarify.

I replaced the battery and I get no charge. I press and hold the button and the power light turns on for a brief moment and goes off.

Just bought a used HP zbook 15 G3 - didn't come with any RAM installed. I purchased (1) 4GB stick with the recommended spec's, and installed it into slot #1. I got a black screen and error code of 3 long + 2 short beeps indicating memory error. I tried the memory in slot #2 and it booted fine. Now that I know it works, I'll be looking to add more RAM, but I'm a bit worried about slot #1 (maybe others) possibly not working. Do you know if these slots should be populated in a certain order? Which slots are tied together for dual channel operation? Couldn't find this information in the manuals. thx

It should work with just one in any slot as far as I know, but could be wrong.

Did it say motherboard removal anywhere? What's your definition of disassembly? How far down does it need to go?

I sort of agree with you. Definitely “disassembly” is more than removing the battery cover and swapping battery. I’d say the “definition” would lay somewhere between this and a complete teardown. Like removing HDD carriage, would be a logical next step. Granted this was a customer laptop… not owned by like “iFixit”
