I put thermal pads under the chips for cpu and gpu works wonders with cooling and no mess 🫢

Nice, a quad-core model (you can tell by the two extra RAM slots under the keyboard). Color me surprised when you got to the GPU and it turned out to be an MXM-A card, because most quad-core configurations I've seen come with a Quadro K3100m or better, which are all MXM-B cards. Perhaps it had a K2100m. I didn't know the G2 had already switched to M.2 WiFi modules, that was surprising as well. Also, unlike the G1 which only took mSATA and 2.5" SATA SSDs, these can take M.2 2260 PCIe SSDs (not NVME though). PD: a friend of mine wanted to swap the motherboard on his G1 for a G2 one, but there might be physical incompatibilities, given the many subtle differences between the two models, which are identical from the outside. That's why I decided to advice against it.

This type of motherboard swaps are practically impossible. Between different models etc. I have a feeling they have multiple teams designing laptops and each one competing with each other by making a weirder design of a laptop. :-)

I have a zbook 17 G1 that has a quadro p4000 and 4930mx. Runs great but have to disable driver signing and force the .inf install with the "have disk" method in device manager anytime I want to update the nvidia driver (p4000 is technically not supported). These laptops really are excellent. I still use mine as a desktop replacement daily driver with a thunderbolt pcie chassis. I think the fastest CPU you can put in these is a 4940mx and for GPU the fastest "official" is a quadro k5100 or something of the sort. I have no idea how or what the proper method choosing a mxm GPU that is above the spec requirements like what I have. I bought my laptop the way it is. I assume you could put a damn rtx 2070 in it if it had the correct HP video bios.

@@osamasaleh4375 it will never meet the requirements for win11 officially thinking it they want minimum 7-8th core I series cpu for Intel but u can give it core i7 4940mx as top cpu that was from hasswell 32gb ram 2133-2400mhz I’m running 2133mhz gpu nvidia quadro p5200 mxm 16gb tops defo make sure that card has bios chip on it first some don’t have ! Ssd no need to say as much as u like ! U can make 11 run by copying sources folder except install.wim file from win10 for clean setup of update either way try only appraiser and appraisers.DLL swap from 10 to 11 that I think works google it ! Bypass win11 requirements! Yeah ! Peace

Nice video! I have one of these G2 models. I got the blue screen now it won't start up...message was problem with memory management Do you have any advice? I don't want to lose all my hang gliding videos...crap I'm stuck! Thanks

Hi, could be a bad memory unit. If you have two units, I would pull one, and keep another one. If not working, try same memory in another slot. If that doesn't help, try the same with another memory unit.

@@soaringroadtrip also, if your hard drive or ssd wasn't encrypted, you could mount it externally to another computer and access all your videos. And if it was encrypted, you should keep a decryption key somewhere safe...

Awesome advice! I removed and swapped around the 8GB ram memory chips. I removed both in the back, and one of the two under the keyboard. Now it is running on 8GB ram, and it started up fine! So I'll order some new ones and put them in when I get time...at least the hard drives are ok and it starts up! Thanks so much!
