Excellent review - I saw your previous HP z mobile workstation reviews and was waiting for the Fury. Glad I did, because it is the one I'll get. Could I ask - what is the screen to the left at 12:32 ? I have no experience with Thunderbolt - is it a single cable from the notebook to the screen (ie. does the screen need additional power?)

Thanks. The portable monitor is a Lenovo ThinkVision M14t with USB-C connection. (Review out soon!) It connects and powers the monitor using the one cable. USB-C can deliver up to 100 watts of power to devices, Thunderbolt 3 adds faster speeds and dual 4K monitor support. 👍

Not sure why this is praised so much, but there are so many disadvantages for this machine: - display quality is under any expectation - display bezels are huge for this price-range - fan noise is so high that you could consider this defective (I could only use it with a good headset with ANC) - the keyboard is mediocre - immediately switch to using an dedicated keyboard - the touch pad is small, non-responsive in some cases and not very good overall - chose the cheapest mouse that is better than this - the size and weight are under expectations (considering competition has slimmer variants , not even considering new Apple M laptops) - battery is almost non-existing when in building code and doing something else in parallel (really expected this to be better in a bulky workstation like this). There are some advantages(mostly the processor), but don't think they outweigh the disadvantages.

Great review - thank you! I cannot decide between the Fury i7-10850/RTX4000 and the Create i7-10850/RTX2070maxQ. Have looked at your Studio review as well. How is the temperature of the Fury compared to the Studio and especially the Create? From the other reviews I have read, the Create seems to have an issue with high temperature. Is this better for the Fury? For me this is an deciding issue.
@Dovecomputers3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The Create + RTX2070 does have heat issues due to the smaller dimensions and extra heat generated from the 2070 GPU. The Studio G7 with T1000/T2000 has no heat issues. IMO, the Fury wins out with great thermal management thanks to the bigger chassis dimensions and quiet dual fans. I've had a Fury 15 G7 for two months, RTX 3000 model and not found any heat issues. Plus, the larger dimensions and weight doesn't bother me at all, carrying it in a rucksack. (Much better than the older ZBook 15 G6) Love the upgrade options, especially when you load up the memory up to 128GB (which in the Create G7 only goes up to 32GB max. soldered on) The Fury is a proper mobile workstation powerhouse! 👍

IMO, the Fury G7 wins out. Using mine for 3+ months, great thermals for 4K video editing and CAD work. You will never get decent battery life from these power workstations as its all about max. performance. Excellent upgrade options, built like a tank (And weights like one) HP support is slightly better than Dell and Lenovo, again in my opinion. All of them have 3 year warranties for peace of mind. I used it as my daily driver for two months, working on Adobe PS and PP all the time. Premium Pro 4K editing and encoding was smooth. Hi! Thanks for the review. This is very helpful. I'm about to buy mi first mobile working station. And select between Lenovo Thinkpad p15v with UHD display and HP Fury with FHD. The specs are pretty close. And I would really like to know if HP FHD is worth buying (as Lenovo's is trash for sure, it's been discussed a lot). But can't find the proper information. Most HP reviews have UHD 4K (that is considered to be mindblowing, as well as the price, lol). I'm not chasing 4k content, but good color range and true colors are essential to me as I do work with photos from time to time.

Thanks for the comments. The review model is 15.6" diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS, anti-glare, 400 nits, 100% sRGB, so in other words perfect for Photoshop type work. If you are considering plugging in an external monitor, the FHD model will be fine. I found that quad resolution would be better on a 15.6" laptop but nobody is doing this on mobile workstations or business laptops. BTW, the Lenovo P15 is the direct comparison to the Fury G7. The Lenovo P15v is comparable to the HP ZBook Power G7 (Another great value workstation) 👍

Great review...I was reluctant to get another HP as with last one I experienced issues with the battery and charging point. Fury is holding battery for 8.5h on web browsing on other reviews, however on yours is just 5h and just 2.5h on extreme workload. Was it use of GPU that drains it so quickly? You almost convinced me to drop the Thinkpad P15, save for the battery.
@Dovecomputers3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think its to do with the 'Full Fat' CPU (running at a higher constant TDP) and GPU inside. Compared to Max-Q GPU versions that save battery life but performance is slightly down. With my workflow, I always have it on mains to get the best performance, so battery life is not so important. If it is, the HP ZBook Power G7 is the one to get, much better battery life, similar performance and great value. 👍

OK, first impressions, after installing the device and moving away from my old Zbook 15 G3 mobile workstation. I had some weared problems with the sound, but it went away. Might be something with the electronics, or some interference with the surroundings. Nevertheless the sound is worse, cause you lack the speakers in front of the body, so when you close the lid (which i have almost all the time) the sound is like from cave, cause the speakers are covered. Second, the camera is ABSOLUTELY horrid. I have literally worse picture than before on my 4.5 years old G3. The camera is not able to adapt to the light conditions good. very disappointed with this one. This should not be like this on a noteookb of this range. Next one, the bottom cover, although it is a nice idea to have it readily accessible is just a very very cheap thin piece of plastic and it is definitely worse then what I had before. on G3 that was a very solid build. Overall the finish of the chassis is OKish although there are bits, that are not matching the standard, there was on G3 machine. (e.g. on the monitor, on the top edge on like 10cm it is not smooth, but I would need to send a picture of it for you to see). The device also heats up more than my previous laptop. So very mixed feelings about this device overall so far. May be I will get used to it. One notice, beware: dock G2s have a vent. And that vent is louder than the notebook itself. I did not catch it before buying. Yeah and one more. I am using SC reader almost all the time. On all of the workstations so far, the card nicely went all the way in with about cca 1cm sticking out of the chassis. Not true anymore, it sticks out good 4cm and it is very annoying. I am thinking how to cut the card, so it is useable again. (added later, I cut the card, about 3cm, works, but they screwed the SC reader as well, you touch the card, it disconnects you) I was thinking about going to the different manufacturer this time. HP thumbs down for this so far. next time I will primarily focus on other vendors. Shame that I did not read and search more.

@@Dovecomputers Versions with the best configuration (new, not used) can be bought (since December 2022) for a third of the (original) price. It's also a bit of luck, it takes a bit of searching (and sometimes waiting). Add: What I would emphasize is that Quadro RTX 5000 is also used in the Max-Q version, this one has less performance, the difference compared to the most powerful desktop version is about 30% down, I guess it is closer to RTX A4000... There are more reasons (including the size). My personal opinion is that it needs to be emphasized that there is CUDA, Ray Tracing, PhysX, it has professional drivers and VR support, etc.. Fyi: If someone will hesitate between Macbook Pro/Max - M1 and this one, (so if we take away from how solid the Fury is, how many security features it has, or what is the support and also what are the certifications, etc. ), so for example M1 doesn't support VR, (add: Mac will be without Intel chips very soon, by default) , and Macbook Pro Max with M2 chip in comparable configuration will be expensive as hell even in a year. + Detail: someone will appreciate the touchscreen that is available, depending on the specific application. Also, you need to consider if you need ECC, with Xeon it is then limited to 64GB RAM, but this is again outweighed by the benefits of using ECC. Much more could be written... ..It's good to know that a lot of things have to be done manually, scaling, some features, etc. (E.g. Ray Tracing, PhysX where needed, etc.) + one buys and the first thing is to update the BIOS and also the driver for NVIDIA RTX, including downloading their app, etc., or setting the fan when using AC adapter, etc... It makes a really big difference... Personally, I'm satisfied. A great workstation at a great price today. It's a beast, if you run it at max, don't expect the battery to last long, (so either AC adapter/power or a second [replacement] battery would be a solution).
