The fan was working but was very loud. I also replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive. The computer was extremely slow. The solid state drive did the trick. I cloned (copied) the data from the hard drive to the SSD and installed it. I tested the hard drive after the fact and it passed. It just couldn't keep up with the rest of the system. I'm going to put it into an external enclosure so it can be used as a backup drive.
This is the one I have. It has the same 64bit set along with some other useful tools and a carrying case.

This is a great video! I have one of these laptops (still!!!) and I had already updated the hard drive to an SSD and added more memory so it's been working great, it has Windows 10 Pro on it, but just yesterday the fan suddenly stopped working lol. I came to KZbin hoping to get a clue on how to change it since I first thought this laptop would open from the bottom like a MacBook hahaha. You've probably saved me hours of frustration, broken wires and fingernails... Thanks!!!

I had my Asus open while working on the keyboard when I dropped it and broke a wired connector on both the wired end and on the motherboard. I also broke the wire an inch from the board. The male end is free as a bird. I suspected what I had destroyed (this time) was the speaker connector. If I had a clean break, I'd order a new connector, but I haven't worked on (destroyed) a motherboard yet. I'm glad to know I'm dealing with speakers. Thanks for confirming that.

The free versions of acronis from Seagate or western digital are great. Macrium is ok but unreliable in my experience. If you buy a Samsung ssd you can download their magician cloning software which is good.

holy smack! i'm so happy that you made this video. i have the same problem with the same model toshiba but have been reluctant to do the job myself and am not stateside where i can have someone do it for me. that said, i think i might give her a whirl after seeing this. the only real problem you had was the speaker wire, which i don't even care about since i use external speakers. however, i fear my hard-drive is failing too. have a video about backing up and transferring over the hard-drive, or have any suggestions you can lend me in that regard, in terms of simplest approach, etc? thanks!

@@staxoffunk1863 That actually sounds like something broke. go watch some more KZbin videos about taking laptops apart and putting them back together. You should see enough examples for you to figure out if you're just doing it wrong or something broke.

Do a Google search with the model number of your laptop and the words RAM installation. You should find directions on how to get to the ram slots. Along with how many RAM slots there are.

Hi Michael Cooper, What fan did you use as a replacement? Thanks!
@MichaelTheComputerGuy
@MichaelTheComputerGuy 7 жыл бұрын
jeremy orendorff With laptops you have to look up the replacement model number and order it. In most cases if you have the laptops model number you can find the model number of the cooling fan. Occasionally the model of the fan listed with the model of the laptop won't actually match when you go to open up the laptop to replace it. The only way to know for sure what model number fan to get is to open the laptop up and get the model number from the fan itself.

Thanks, Michael, I have the "Toshiba p755-s5383 fan KSB06105HA". I was hoping to find one on Amazon but I can't find that exact fan.
@MichaelTheComputerGuy
@MichaelTheComputerGuy 7 жыл бұрын
jeremy orendorff Go do a search on eBay. Even if you can't find that precise model fan do a search for just the model number of the laptop and then compare the pictures of the fan and it's connector with what you've got in your laptop that you want to replace. As long as it fits it will work.

Damn. I looked up this vid to check what the speaker connector looks like, and that same one on my laptop looks just fine but the speakers aren't being detected in windows at all. Guess Ill have to crack it up again and check on the wiring all the way to the speakers.
@MichaelTheComputerGuy
@MichaelTheComputerGuy 7 жыл бұрын
Hold off doing that. The speakers aren't really detected in Windows. The audio chip that provides sound to the speakers is. Even if the speaker wasn't connected the audio chipset should be detected. if in device manager you don't have any audio chipset detected with drivers working that's really what you need to fix. Not the speakers wiring to the motherboard.
@xxDrain
@xxDrain 7 жыл бұрын
Yep, I hooked up those speakers to a different laptop and they worked just fine. So god knows what my trouble is... -The manufacturer provided audio driver doesn't install as it doesn't detect compatible hardware -3rd party (realtek) audio drivers do nothing -There is no onboard audio option to enable in BIOS -Mute function key doesn't do anything -Driver search programs don't find any missing audio drivers -Uptating BIOS didn't change anything -Windows update can't find any drivers -There are 2 unknown devices in device manager. USB audio works, though. Think the sound chip is dead? I hope not :s Who would buy a laptop with a dead sound chip.

xxDrain If you tell me the model number of the laptop I'll see what I can do about tracking down the correct drivers.

If you're up for it, I won't refuse the offer. But I did look up the original drivers from the HP website and they failed to discover the device. The laptop is an HP Pavilion G7-2050sa. Right now I'm just looking into how a dead audio chip could be replaced, but I doubt I have the know-how and equipment for motherboard repair, as I have no education in electronics... I'm just the family tech support guy and have practical experience, mostly googling and fixing things that way.

Windows 8.1 drivers ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59649.exe Windows 7 drivers ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56803.exe If that doesn't get it done and you have a spare hard drive I'd suggest putting it in and installing Windows onto it. See if the audio drivers will install. If they do it's a problem with the copy of Windows on the other hard drive. A reinstall should fix it. If the problem remains then it is an issue with the motherboard. 680569-001 is most likely the product number. You can verify this by looking for a sticker on the motherboard. You can get a replacement for around $130.

Never remove a cable from the socket by pulling on the wires. Always use a tool to remove the connector, very small screwdriver or small needle nose pliers.

I used my thumb nails and that's when it broke. The same would have happened with a tool. Never say never. I think if I had just kept pulling on the cables it would have come out without breaking. Anyway I got it back together.

You may not have taken out all of the necessary screws holding the keyboard. Also sometimes as you take them out you have to slide them in one direction before you pull up and then when you put them back and you have to make that same motion.
