This is a great second gen car , originally the legendary HPI Rs4 3 stage D converted 2 spd cars had great success with HPI A type rubber super drift tires in Japan these replaced the type B tires found in the conversion kit , not the LP plastic type that originally came on the single spd HPI Drift. Recommend a roto start back plate conversion for easy starts. RIP HPI Japan 2016

hey, thanks for the comment!!! This is a classic nitro drift I agree, too bad that nitro drift pretty much ended with this model right here. I gotta say all the negativity people had with nitro drift is wrong. The car does not overheat, it has very good weigh distribution, and it has great low speed drift speeds. I'll look for aroma start back late, already have some HPI models with them. thanks!!!

Hey mate. Leaning the bottom and top end a bit will make it easier to start. It's pretty fast hey. Has a awsome exhaust set up. Has a lot of potential. Get the tune dialed a bit more and it will start easier. And you'll also gain top end power band. Nice looking RC but my pet hate is guys not running with the body on. 1 flip and you'll scratch up that cooling head. All together you obviously know what your doing. Just a bit more tweaking on the tune and run with your body on and check your camera mic its a bit distorted. Do all these things and you'll have some awesome RC UPLOADS. Just some friendly advice. When you do the things I mentioned you'll be having some quality videos. I look forward to seeing them. I just subscribed 🏁🏁💯💯🥇🥇🏆🏆

I just picked up a HPI nitro RS4 at a garage sale for 30$ - I unlocked the engine by using wd40 now it has good compression- I want to replace some of the worn out suspension components and the belts - where do you think I can get some parts for the nitro RS4 without costing a fortune??

whats up my long time Nitro brother! You got the best deal ever, those RS4s go for good money on ebay these days. anyway, your best bet is to run it as is, unless you need replacement parts right away. Generally the belts are fine when you tighten the belt tensioner. There are still plenty of parts for these on ebay, always search there.

I have one of these. The RS4 EVO 3 series. Great little car. I put the 3.0 engine in it. HPI p/n 15107. Had to adjust the shift point on the 2 speed transmission. Hauls butt. Also I started a vintage Mini nitro with the stock motor recently. It had not run since 1997 or around there. I stored it with after run oil. all I had to do to get it started was take the engine 1/2 way apart, sprayed and cleaned it. Started right away. It sat in storage for over 20 years. Sealed vinyl type storage bin. Don't ever try to start a car when the engine has stiffened due to dried up fuel residue. It might start and within minutes your bearings and/or piston could be ruined. The thing I find that most often creates trouble when starting a nitro engine after a long storage period is the O rings on the Low speed adjustment needles. The rubber goes bad and fuel flows right past the breaks. This floods the engine and so forth. Tires get bad too of course. It surprises me that the long serpentine belts on the early HPI's hold up so long. Well made.

hey buddy! Unfortunately there is no OBJECTIVE way I can actually demonstrate the difference but I can tell you the main differences. Generally Off-road engines tend to have better low end torque and lower top RPM, while on-road engines are for higher RPM and can run a lower % oil content to achieve that. IN real life, unless you're legit racing for money and competing in the top level of RC you won't know a difference with a regular SAFE and rich tune.

hello, this was the stock factory exhaust setup for this car. It's unique to this model HPI rs4-3 Drift because it has this unique mid engine chassis design.

nothing better than starting an engine bringing it to life and feeling the power of it. Electric is just tech, nitro is soul. I just got back into this and while I did buy an Xray T4 I still have my fully decked Savage SS and Nitro RS4 2. I do want to get Xrays newest NT1 nitro model even if that remains a shelf queen. I absolutely love building these and Nitro will always have spot.

hey buddy!!. I've never seen a nitro RC car shoot fire from the exhaust, sounds pretty cool actually. LOL. What % nitro fuel are you using?, I always go with 20% nitro and about 13-17% oil content. You need to check if it's running too LEAN and therefore too hot. Good way to quickly test that is to put a drop of water or your own saliva on the cooling head when it's hot and see if it instantly boils off (then it's too hot). You need to RICHEN the high speed needle valve on the Carb. So to riches it you need to turn it out (counterclockwise) 1/8-1/4 turn at a time until the engine runs at not over 210 degrees. also an infrared temp gauge will help.

I wanna see and hear the backfire, I've never heard of an RC nitro motor do that on it's own, LOL. Usually they just stall when the fuel to air mixture is incorrect. Im cures to see if you're just running it to rich. Tell me if you normally see alot of smoke coming from the exhaust?

Biggest mistake in Nitro: buying a pullstart engine. They breakdown overtime and fail very easily...then you can never get the coil wound back up. Also it's a PITA to be pulling it over and over. Bump box is the way to go. Also never get an electric start for the engine, another waste of time. A drill is the only other reasonable solution.
