My dad had a 1974 Peterbilt 359 with the long rectangular dash panel. He was searching for the later, rounded, "corvette" style dash panel of the later 359 yrs to put in it but didnt find one to his likings! The ole girl had a 400 Cummins & 13spd Spicer & 377 drivers. He used it a a dump truck & a log truck. She was a special ole girl & fun to drive! It to had the top mounted, air conditioner unit but with the fan & metal protection cage visable in the top center! Thankya for sharing this video, awesome building, techniques, hints, tips, & memories of the old generation 359's! Model fun👍👍👍

I have built this kit many times since the early 70s, and has been one of my favorite kits. I liked the earlier versions better because they were somewhat 3-in-1 as they also included the sleeper and 5th wheel. One could build a day cab or sleeper tractor, or the wrecker. I like watching a master at work, so I keep coming back to your videos.

Why is watching a video of you geeking out over styrene so relaxing? But you always have some awesome models on here. I could never build things so complicated by myself.

I'm watching the video once again after 3 years from the first time. It is so delicious to watch the beauty of this big rig AMT model. I have also an AMT 1/25 Aerodyne Kenworth Cabover, and a relatively new 359 "Pete" conventional semi truck from Revell Germany and believe me, there's no other like AMT when we're dealing with scale model trucks. I mean, in the actual world, there's no other like Peterbilt and Mack, but in scale model trucks is AMT the master of all brands. Thank you Chris for such a stunning work. It will be always a pleasure to watch your videos.

The thing is. You chuck your models together, you chuck the paint on with rattle cans in your spray booth that badly needs a filter change. But they come out absolutely awesome!! The first one of yours I saw you do was the big Chevy convertible. That looked beautiful. But as you were building it I was thinking "okaaayyyyy..." but it came out beautifully. Your models are as good as the ones built by the guys with airbrushes and all the "special techniques". Really good videos too, you obviously love the hobby.

That is a fine looking Peterbilt Wrecker you built there Chris. Built that model back in the early 80s. Stretched out the frame enough to add the sleeper. Painted the body blue and the frame orange. Built cb antennas out of guitar strings, built up the engine to look as real as possible put the yellow emergency lights on the top, a friend of mine took it to a model truck show someone took a picture of it. That truck ended up in one of the model truck magazines. That cause me to keep building till I had to start selling some to make room for new builds. You have sparked a new light in me that makes me want to build again. Some of the trucks I built in the past took me as much as three months to build. It doesn't matter how long it takes to build these models as long as they look real at the end of the day. Now days these don't take so long cause most of the paints dry faster than they did back in the day. May have to start all over again. Thank you for sharing your skills with the rest of us, Sure by now I need a refresher course. Keep up the good work.👍

I built quite a few of those Pete's back in the 70's and to get that hood to open all the way, you either had to drop that bumper down or shave the bottom of the grill and touch it up with silver. Haven't built one since the 70's but I'm starting to get back into it in my old age. I'm starting with the AMT Diamond Rio, and lowboy trailer and Dozer kit. It's what my dad owned and drove when I was a kid. I just wish I could find a 1/25 drop gooseneck lowboy trailer instead of that beaver tail lowbow. I'm thinking of constructing one myself out of parts.

I had this kit about 1984 or so and it took a while to build, it was barely within my skill level back then. I had a baby raccoon living in the big AMT wrecker box for the duration, even when she got too big for the box. It turned out good, I always loved the kit and the Detroit. If I remember accurately, and I have a pornographic memory, I put the spyder wheels from another kit on it. I did scrounge every chrome truck part I could find so that added to the build time by months. Practically the whole truck was chrome. Have no idea why I thought this was a good idea. I am deaf but have no problem following. These are good video, love them.

Nice kit. I just purchased mine. I am currently finishing the AMT Alaskan Hauler and the Kenworth Conventional W925 trucks. I like to re do the chrome as well. The main reason being the mould lines and the bits that join to the sprues ruin the factory chrome anyway. It is a shame AMT can't connect the sprues in a less obvious position. I sand after filling with Tamiya model putty and hit them with Krombrite spray. Otherwise nice trucks when some fine detail work is applied to the assembly. Good videos, keep them coming.

Color choice reminds me of old build where I combined same wrecker body (which BTW should be narrowed a little - AMT made it too wide) with Revell Long sleeper KW cabover flattop as a 24hr. Sunoco wrecker. Replaced kit boom with Aluminum tubing for telescoping function. This issue is the later Pete 359 kit with hinged hood, the original box had same image, but was blue color, and plastic was of the first issue Pete.

I've watched several of your truck builds. You do very nice work and your videos are well done too. I built an Autocar years ago and l found it pretty easy to cut the drivers side door out. I glued it open so you could see the interior of the cab better. I also cut the windows so they looked like the were partially rolled down. I've been watching some of the tank modelers and they are very keen on parts being in proper scale. I wonder if the frames for the mirrors aren't a bit too big for instance. If so it wouldn't be hard to fashion them out of a smaller guage wire. I really like your weathering too. Thanks for some great vids.
@charliebowman7852 жыл бұрын
Very interesting your point Sir. I've thought the same about mirror frames specially if we see those for 1/25 AMT's Pump Firetruck. I mean, the model is a "candy" with wheels. It is full of great details; Detroit V8 engine, hydraulic system, control panels, ladders, hoses, lights, handles and other parts, but those mirrors look like a Loch Ness monster abortion. I would take your words to ask the manufacturer (AMT) to improve those frame parts. Along with the most recent technologies, molding for sure has changed a lot, allowing those tiny parts to be much more realistic in regard the gauge. Thank you for sharing your comments.
