The Dodge Coronet is an automobile that was marketed by Dodge in seven generations, and shared nameplates with the same bodyshell with varying levels of equipment installed. Introduced as a full-size car in 1949, it was the division's highest trim line and moved to the lowest level starting in 1955 through 1959. The name was reintroduced on intermediate-sized models from the 1965 until 1976 model years.[1] Muscle car versions were available starting in 1965 with the 383 and 426 wedge cu in (7.0 L) Chrysler RB engine, followed in 1966 by the powerful 426 cu in (7.0 L) Chrysler Hemi. Other performance models included the "Superbee", and featured, the 383 cu in (6.3 L) Magnum, among other engine options. The nameplate "coronet" is a type of crown worn by royalty.
In the 1980s, the Coronet was used on Dodge models marketed in Colombia.
The Coronet and similar Plymouth Belvedere received complete redesigns in 1968, as did the Dodge Charger, which shared the B-body platform. There was a mild facelift in 1970. Trim levels initially included the base Coronet, Coronet Deluxe, Coronet 440, Coronet 500, and Coronet R/T. The Coronet Super Bee was introduced in early 1968 as a companion to the Plymouth Road Runner. In keeping with Dodge's position as a step above Plymouth, the Super Bee shared the Charger's Rallye instrument cluster and the Coronet 440's rear finish panel.
As in 1967, the 440ci RB V8 was only available in the Coronet R/T in 1968. The 426ci Hemi V8 was supposed to be limited to the R/T and Super Bee, but two 1968 Coronet 440s are known to have been built with this engine.
The Coronet R/T 2-door hardtop and convertible continued through 1970.
The Super Bee was available as a 2-door coupe or 2-door hardtop. Chrysler displayed a convertible with Super Bee stripes at car shows in 1968, but never offered it as a production model.
The Dodge Super Bee was a limited-production muscle car from 1968 through 1971. The original Super Bee was based on the Dodge Coronet, a 2-door model, and was produced from 1968 until 1970. It was Dodge's low-priced muscle car, the equivalent to Plymouth Road Runner, and was priced at $3,027. Available with the Hemi engine, this option increased the price by 33% thus 125 models were sold with this engine option. The Super Bee included a heavy-duty suspension, an optional Mopar A-833 four-speed manual transmission, high-performance tires, and a stripe (with the bee logo) wrapped around the tail. The name "Super Bee" was derived from the "B" Body designation given Chrysler's mid-size cars which included the Coronet.

This is NOT a complaint- just a comment from a Mopar freak- the '68 Coronet R/T had 2 motors available: the 440-4bbl and the Hemi. The later released 68 Super Bee also had only 2 motors: the 383-4bbl and the Hemi. That 383 had 440 heads, and tested faster in the quarter mile than the Coronet and Charger R/T's 440. The Super Bee didn't offer a 440-4bbl . My built MPC model '68 R/T hardtop is still gathering dust on my shelf. Can't wait to build this convertible ! Your "Top Banana" yellow was the first "high impact" color available in '68 for the R/T. Great build, Chris !

Nostalgia build - from the late 60's through the early 90's NO car - new or used - bought at a car lot, ever left that lot without paying $50 for "UNDERCOATING". It eventually became the basis of most late night TV jokes. Today - gone, but the smell of that lost $50 remains. Hand painting the undercoating on this car is a memory flogger. Beauty build. Thanks again for sharing. Great way to launch the weekend - with undercoating - but without losing $50.

It's 4:38amEST here in Maryland. Couldn't sleep so I'm watching your value rich video getting some valuable information. I'm currently building it in a light metallic blue with white interior and at the same time building the AMT '69 Plymouth GTX convertible kit in the same color scheme, sorta like a brother/sister combo 😅 So far the Coronet has been as pleasant and trouble-free build as the GTX. Thanks again for providing me with invaluable information and tips and especially some neat tools and tricks that I have been able to utilize to improve and enhance the quality of my builds. You're indeed a blessing to the hobby and to me. Keep rocking my friend and as you say...build for YOU!

Superb build. At first, I thought the engine color should be orange as my real 69 Roadrunner 383 was that color but documents show that the blue color was correct for 68 Dodges. Also, word has it that there will be an issue of the Mpc 1971 Dodge Demon 340 kit soon. Cannot wait for that one, friend of mine had the real one. The Coronet R/T kit is available everywhere now.

Another great build, Chris! I've been waiting for this kit to come out for a while. I agree with you on the decals for the taillight panel. Please also ask R2 to include the Magnum air cleaner decal too. It's very prominent when you peek under the hood and is conspicuous by its absence. Hoping Keith Marks can help with this one in the meantime. Cheers.

I say make the rear tail lights a separate chrome piece so for R/T and 500 we can black wash center and have the "ribs" exposed chrome along with light bezels. Give me 2 small chrome scallops for the side scallops as the 500 has, too. I used foil to make my chrome side scallops a la Coronet 500. 🚗

Hey 👋 there Chris, you don't know me but I've watched your videos 🎥 for a long time now. I've figured out a solution to your problem with the front tire molding pins to stop 🛑 them from breaking off 📴 for now on. Take your hand drill compare it to the size of your wheel backs for the pins and a paperclip 📎 cut a piece 🧩 of the paperclip 📎 and insert it into the wheel pin for extra strength and support. Also I know you prefer doing factory models alot. Just so you know there's a guy who has a shop in Oregon state name Mark something, he's a guru with Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth vehicles even worked and recognized by the company and has been given awards by them also had his own TV show called graveyard 🪦 carz . When doing a factory grill they'd usually have it painted chrome and another silver color because they came in 2/3 pieces apart from the black that they painted so in some cases you might use too much blackwash also you were fine with the black hood because they painted the engine bay even the firewall all the same color as the car even underneath unless it was special order from the buyer would get a undercoating Mark can literally tell you everything you want to know just by looking at the numbers in the engine bay he has all the codes memorized like a friggin encyclopedia. So when in doubt watch the show for Mopar information for Mark is a Mopar legend who's even done work for celebrities he's that damn good with over 30 years he's very well deserved for his work and awards. Please 🙏 try to put on the dashboard decals it just makes the model look poor job incomplete. Thank 🙏 you for your time and keep having fun. Sincerely, Robert JD Fraser a fellow modeler but now with diecast

440 ... man what an engine that must have been. I think the biggest engine I've ever had was the 308 V8 in my 1999 Dodge Ram 4x2. Loved the sound of it. Nothing to what this must have sounded like. The kit looks great! I’m keeping fingers crossed for a hardtop option, and if I’m really dreaming, maybe some ability to build it as either a ‘68 OR a ‘69 with the Ram Charger hood scoops. I had purchased a resin body hardtop to bash with a 68 RoadRunner chassis. Now this is out..i may plan something different for tge resin body now that the styrene version is available again. I wasnt about to pay ebay prices for an original kit. I just hope round 2 has some plans on rebooting the 72 Demon kit. They would really make a lot of us "kids" happy! Model looks great HPI guy. @@carlsailer6948 “…hardtop version is in the works for 2024.” That’s great news! Now for the other half of my wish - parts for a ‘69 build. My uncle bought a 440 powered R/T of that model year and those two big scoops, to a young boy of 4 or 5, seemed so very cool. Still do, actually. I s’pose they’d be easy enough to scratch out, as well as the matching air cleaner. I just wonder if the front and rear facias from that Monogram ‘69 Super Bee convertible in my stash will fit. Hmmm. Only one way to find out, I suppose. As for the Demon, it’s very cool as well, and there are a few places online selling that kit for reasonable ($42-ish) prices.
