I imagine this would be hard to get into without the nostalgia factor. I loved playing this with my bro on PC back in the 90's. The most cinematic game for its time for sure. The ending is abrupt but I loved it. The sense of friendship and sacrifice, not knowing if you survived or not. Really captured my imagination. I like how they did the 20th anniversary update, but I'm not big on the slick graphics. It's nice that it's HD but I liken it to photoreal textures in Minecraft. Just doesn't quite fit the vibe

Ya. The game uses them as artificial time lengthen-ers, you can see how quick it is to beat. It's not a very well designed or even coded game. Just the cinematic elements and art were very impressive at the time. Funny to even think that looking at it now. I still own the SNES version.

LIMBO does the same. I couldn't say if Eric Chahi thought about the experience of the player, but I can say that the designers of LIMBO though about it. In other words it can be part of design/experience, intentional or not. Probably there are more examples out there. Thinking Takeshi's Challenge, as an extreme example.

My god, this was a trial and error game like no other! I played this one a lot on Amiga 500 with a TAC-2, and despite many hours of trying, I never finished the game. It was the art style and the sparse, but very atmospheric soundscape that got me.

dude. have you tried this game? watching a virgin player go at this game with all the mistakes included would be like... an hours-long exercise. one wrong move, including timing guess shots at random, pixel-sized targets, and you're done. this is by far the greatest platformer ever created. Eric Chahi is The Man for creating this (mass kudos to the rest of the design team, also).

Since this is a speedrun, why didn't you use the glitch at 8:08 and instead of going up the stairs the first time, you just have to keep going right, and you will actually get one level above (where your buddy slides through the shaft), then you can return down one level. It would save you a few seconds.

isn't faster if you dont kill the guard at 11:45 without the lamps ? theres a way of killing him by doing a force field, and then jumping the ball thing he drops, after that he behaves like a normal guard

alejandrothefader Just go down to the lowest place in the lift type thingie and shoot the guard and the blinking lights next to him. That will Jam the barriers and you can go to the upper level and can go pass that guard easily.

It's probably a timing issue. If you watch the video again the player pauses before shooting the green ball thing, which is significant considering this is a speed run! Try waiting until the white thing inside(or on) the green ball moves to the center.

Yeah, but don't put too much faith into it. Heart of the Alien was developed by someone else, and Eric Chahi has disavowed any connection to it. The only good thing I saw out of it was that it gave us one of the better versions of the Another World soundtrack. At the same time, though, I do like the original's approach to a very minimalist soundtrack.
