I didn't realize they were still doing live piano music in 1988. I quickly googled it once I realized and found an article about the guy who played the piano and a little interview with him. He said he tried to tailor it to each gymnast's style and "put a little flavor in it." It was an interesting article and I do admire him but I'm glad we made the switch, lol.

Wasn't his name Carol or something like that? In 1988 I tried desperately to get that sheet music but no matter who I talked to they couldn't get it for me.

Interestingly enough I think Chelle Stack was clearly the best dancer .

It is a shame that only a technicality kept these girls from winning the bronze medal. They would have been the first US gymnastics team to do that in a non-boycotted Olympics since 1948.

I would've thought Stack was the smallest and Garrison-Steves the tallest by far with Marlowe and Mills being smaller than Spivey and Johnson.
@tomsk144 жыл бұрын
I think Johnson and possibly Garrison were stronger than Mills here. She missed the dive to cartwheel and had a tricky 3rd landing. Mmm.

Garrison in my opinion was the best, considering only artistry
@DesertStreams002 Жыл бұрын
Agree. Brandy and Garrison definitely deserved 9.9s. I thought Melissa's score could have been at least a 9.7.

While they deserved to beat East Germany, I would've had Bulgaria as the bronze medalists at these Olympics.
@rolandgreen748410 ай бұрын
@@gk891 It is hard to say. Dudeva is by far their best gymnast, and even she sucks on 2 of the 4 events (vault and bars). Neither the US or Bulgaria were that strong, and East Germany with their injuries and many falls weren't either. It was a crapshoot amongst all 3 for me, none were particularly deserving but somebody had to get it.

What year did they do away with compulsories?
@unleashedgeek7295 Жыл бұрын
Last time they had them was in 1996.
@em_mkay8 ай бұрын
1996 was the last year of the compulsories. after 96 the grace and artistry gradually started to dwindle. compulsories were the epitome of artistry and execution

Why are they all doing the same routine??

это обязательная рутина. все должны выполнять одинаковую рутину.

They used to require this it was called compulsaries and then optional would be competed as well. They stopped compulsaries after the 1996 Olympics.

Historically, gymnastics always had a round of competitions called the compulsories. Compulsory routines were designed by the federation of international gymnastics to be routines for each event that were the same. They provided a basis to demonstrate mastery of basic skills for an Olympic level gymnast. 1996 was the last year compulsories we’re used. Many of the greatest gymnast in the world always excelled at compulsories. They should be brought back, in my view.
