Using the lack of information as a power in storytelling is super important. Letting a story be mysterious and only having themes explored through a limmited viewpoint allows people to leave a movie with questions and desires. The amount of excitement and mystery regarding the Xenamorph biology and history has lead to films like Prometheus and Covenant which are basically just there to fill in the history and biology of Aliens. I am glad that I had lots of questions after watching he first Alien movie. It has made the entire franchise far more desirable.

The possible link between the shape of the overarching figure in the mural and the shape of the Derelict + the possible purpose of the Derelict as producing the eggs blew my mind! It makes total sense. Thank you for sharing this!

Interesting that the space jockeys are not elephantine in this mural, but rather a lot more humanoid, with the figure looking more as if they're wearing suits - just like the actual engineers we ended up getting.
@thedoruk63244 жыл бұрын
The Mural is extremely intreguing as it depicts the (humanoid) Engineers/Mala'kak/Space Jockeys; as actively *participating* @ propagating the Xenomorph species almost like a prestigous zealot ritual

A ritual, that is terrifying. Gigers stuff is so good dude

The Engineers are like crazy cat ladies and should take ivermectin to rid themselves of the mind control parasite.

I love this! I have always thought these concepts were great! I know it goes against popular ideas of the xenos being easy to understand, cookie cutter sci-fi, space bugs; but the idea of the eggs and xenos being bio-engineered from the Derelict, itself, or on the Space Jockey's homeworld is much more fascinating than a queen laying eggs.
@bighuge10603 жыл бұрын
I fully agree, Eric. It's one of the reasons I'm in the minority not liking Aliens better than Alien. The creature also became gun fodder in the sequel while in the original, its molecular acid blood made it dangerous to try to kill.

I doubt that anyone would have even noticed the mural on the first watch and it would have been a fine easter egg for viewers on rewatches. Even if someone did notice it would have taken little away from the impact of the "chest burster" later on. It is fine out, but it would have been fine in as well.

Really did a disservice to the artist! I know the artist got paid; but to a REAL artist that creates for the sake of “Creation” it’s the showing of that “creation” that has more meaning than even money!!

Glad it was not in there. I always wondered, when I was younger, about what kind of culture and civilization has ships where the pilot grows out of the chair, and which would created and use weapons such as the xenomorph instead of more conventual (to humanity in the 20th century) weapons. That mural (and the newer movies) destroy those sorts of fun, haunting thoughts, and thoughts such as those are part of the magic for the original movie.

What's the point of being in the dark forever about it? I think the fact that they answered those questions made the franchise better

I think the mural in Promethius shows pretty much just an updated version. Two ovamorph on either side and what I believe to be 3 deferent stages, or perhaps 3 different species of Zenomorph (with the decon being at the center and the crown of the queen and her arachnoid features filling out the edges) *oh yeah, and that's definitely a vag dropping the egg in the first one lol 😁

I think that the mural should have been added would very eye catching and definitely would play a role in film even for quick shot to see it would have been great to see and for Giger would have been happy to see it I think that should have been added would be good for a special edition on the Alien showing the deleted scenes and as well as the HR Gigers mural
@whatevs44554 жыл бұрын
Giger had such a great and disturbing vision. Kinda Lovecraftion and totally otherworldly, often times a little bit to sexual for my taste. And Then Ridley came with Prometheus and Covenant and took a good long warm piss on it.
@vermis83444 жыл бұрын
Agreed: it adds to the mythos, but not the narrative. Also, much as I appreciate Ron Cobb's other work, I'm kinda glad we didn't get his version of the mural either - with a praying-mantis alien on it's back and legs in the air, like a dead cartoon dog...
@martinharris50174 жыл бұрын
Cobb was OK at Star Wars Cantina aliens but not scary stuff. His real expertise is the technical aspects.

I've always wondered about the so called bio-mechanical body, or suit worn by some engineers, and others not, because the "suit", if it is a suit, resemble's the Xeno's own bio-mechanical exoskeleton body. So I find it a bit confusing !
@duyle-ej6ty4 жыл бұрын
Well, both xeno and the suits are the invention of the engineers. If they resemble, it's understandable. Or the xeno, it could be discovered and modified by the engineer.

The derelict is an arm and a leg. I wrote some long dissection but apparently it’s deleted somehow.. Basically everything Giger created is just rearranged body parts in psycho-sexual manner. Fingers, spines, bones, skulls, Breasts, phallic or genitalia- orifices And bondage/snm stuff all comes together to make some darkly Alien.. but because it’s just twisted human anatomy we refuse to see it as human ...that’s what makes it so alien. You’ll notice even Lv426 is covered in bone like structures. None of it makes sense and the further in you go the less it does..
@patrickbyrne50704 жыл бұрын
You must remember Gigers mind was something quite disturbing. His idea of concepts and lore aren’t what the rest of us might logically think
@martinharris50174 жыл бұрын
Another aspect that Giger put into this spacecraft was to "mock" the Millenium Falcon creating a kind of "evil twin". It has the same horseshoe shape and even the "cockpit" protruding from one side. Both craft are freighters, but Instead of spice, the cargo of Giger's version holds a nasty surprise!

In my opinion, Art should have been present because it is a remarkable piece of Art, but it should have been in a chamber of an alien ship but hidden somewhere on the walls in the form of a puzzle like an Easter egg or other riddle that only an observant audience would see, and I also believe that even if the puzzle was shown, it would not be clear to every viewer watching the film for the first time.

The mural should have been included in a later sequel or prequel.

Bit this is the part that makes no sense: (In universe) who MADE the mural? The engineers?
@duyle-ej6ty4 жыл бұрын
yes. Xenomorph or w/e version of it was discovered or created by the engineers either for the purpose of recreation or destruction. To me, I think of it like biologic tool for both creation and weapon.

Let's just say it all worked out, and a lot of the design of the nostromo matches some designs in the derelict and unused designs of the pyramid. they do all match up in the biomachanical way like where bret is killed and the tunnels where dallas is killed even the small ship where the zeno hides and is like part of the ship as Ripley doesn't notice it even though its right in front of her.

“I agree with Scott” lol what a surprise!?😳🙄🤦♂️🤷♂️🤣😂🤣🤣 Bruh?! Seriously? With everything going on with the pacing in that part of the movie you really think the audience woulda put “2+2 together” that that exact situation was gonna play out on the spaceship later on?! It was abundantly apparent soon as the “face hugger-victim” was acting out of sorts during the meal; that the one person with the most exposure to the alien environment would be under that distress!
@meskalin64 Жыл бұрын
I like this better but showing this scene before the chestburster would be a misstake. I dont except the "queen". The ship is the source of the eggs for sure. And aliens dont eat!
