Right now I'm in Recruitment and staffing and want to get more into Compensation and benefits , Employee Relations and most of all, Learning and Development! I graduated with a BA in Communications from CSUF, and since I'm a recruiter I started loving this field! Should I get an HR certificate to work my way up? Like a PHR, SHRM, or general HR certificate from a college/university?

I first watched this video a couple of years ago at the start of my HR journey. I started as an HR generalist and recently became an HR Business Partner. @rachelleah_
@rachelleah_ Жыл бұрын
@@scottievaldez4194 I started at a very small “mom and pop.” They didn't really understand the need for HR. I helped define the role for them. After I started and realized all of my responsibilities, I gave myself the title of HR generalist. I was so new in HR that I had to use google to figure out the title compared to the responsibilities. 😂🙈

Mayara Goncalves I applied to an entry level HR job at a career fair after graduating high school/entering college. You can do the same. Love the advice you give here as well as telling us your journey. I am on the Recruiting side of Human Resources, and have been for almost 4 years. I got my start working for a Staffing Agency and have been able to acquire a broad knowledge of HR skills. I also took online classes and gained certifications which helped boost my resume. My advice is start with some online courses to see if it’s for you and there are lots of free and inexpensive courses surrounding Human Resources that you can take online before investing in a 4yr degree. If you can get in with a staffing agency or consultant agency that would be a great start as well. 😊

I wanted to go back to college but with the pandemic going on, it doesn't seem like the best financial choice right now, especially with classes only being online. Comparison is our biggest enemy. I love working in HR - it's so varied - today I had a conversation to decide where someones role fit into a restructure, I had a meeting about a potential conduct issue, I sat on a job grading panel, I worked with a senior leader to plan a restructure in the new year, had a one to one with my manager and finished off a letter confirming some adjustments we made a to a disabled employees role. Negatives is that everyone thinks HR fire people - that's never our job, it's always the managers decision and we provide the advice and support around a fair process.

I've worked as an HR Director for the past 10 years and agreed with Chantenique on about everything. I love my job because of the total variety - never a dull moment and it's different every day. Being a resource for the employees is also very satisfying. One thing anyone considering a job in HR should be prepared to do well is to have difficult conversations. You have to be proactive, solution oriented and able to compassionately articulate tough messages. There are many areas in HR, so if confronting the office meany isn't something you can handle, find another aspect of HR that suits you. I've found it to be a very rewarding career.

I know this video was posted a while back but thank you for posting this lol.. I’m currently a junior in my undergraduate business program and I have been thinking long and hard on whether or not I want to continue my education further to obtain an MBA specializing in Human Resources.. after some more in depth research and this video in particular I can confidently say that I’ll be continuing my education further to obtain that masters at a top business school in NY 🙏🏻 thank you for your video I truly appreciate you :)

I work for Amazon as a general warehouse employee, I absolutely despise the HR departments at all the local warehouses. They tend to be the strictest people when it comes to rules, enforcing the dumbest rules that not even safety or the operators bother enforcing. One time at 7 in the morning, they went cluster to cluster and wrote up everyone who was wearing earbuds (which was about 66% of the warehouse because both working the night shift and stowing crushes your soul). They also tried to cheat a lot of us out of our $3000 sign on bonuses

@@tylascott3269 hey there! I’ve been in the Air Force for 12 years and am in the Air Guard now. I received my Associates, Bachelors, and Master Degree in HR over the years and have zero student loan debt. It’s a lot of work but totally doable! Good luck! Just know personnel in the military vs civilian HR are two completely different types of policies. But doing school while you’re serving helps lay a foundation. There is also a program called COOL that helps you get certified with your PHR and pays for it.

I was just offered a position starting HR on the 29th of this month, after being in the same job capacity for nearly 24 years. It is somewhat of a pay decrease for me, but it affords me the ability to become more marketable, be creative and do different things on a regular basis because I was bored to death! @@Chantenique I'm in a similar situation. I want to make a career change into HR but have no experience. I know that I would probably have to take a pay cut in order to gain HR experience because I would be in an entry level position. I thought of joining a fast track program to get the academic knowledge of HR. What do you suggest? Btw, I have a bachelor's in communications but currently working in education.

Welp, it’s a challenge to say the least, to maintain your sanity from what I see up close and personal. My CHRO is handling two facilities whose combined headcount is damn near 2,000 employees. What makes a manager or director’s job fulfilling is when they find that they have chosen the best team members to man and operate their department in all areas. We have a well oiled machine.
