Beeing a person who believes Bach also can be played on modern pianos I like this very much!

Der zweite Satz hat es bewiesen: Bach hat nicht nur das Barock vollendet, sondern die Romantik gleich mit erfunden. In diesem Satz war ich im Paradies.

It's not fun. Even Zimmerman did this while Beethoven's piano concerto №2 was being performed by him.

Einfach wunderbar!

This really makes no sense. Do harpsichordist perform the Brahms concertos on the harpsichord? Of course they don't. So why do modern pianists still dare to bother us with Bach on the Steinway? Apart from the organological problem there is a musical one. There no phrasing in this performance, it sounds like a never ending factory of 16th notes, no the slightest touch of rubato not counting the "romantic" ritardandi at the end of the movements. The least one would expect are the trills taken from the upper notes, but even this moat simple rule of historical performance practice has been ignored here. A total anachronism.
@davidwasyng74814 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right in every musical aspect. But the thing with Bach is that his music is so heavenly beautiful that it sounds good even this way. And if that makes more people listen to Bach, it makes our world a better place..
@niek0244 ай бұрын
If Brahms on a harpsichord would sound great (or at least interesting), who would object? As long as it is expressing an artistic idea, I don't mind the occasional anachronism.
@rubreaker14 ай бұрын
@@niek024 but Brahms on the harpsichord doesn't sound great. Does Bach on Steinway sounds great? No more than Brahms on the harpsichord, people are just used to it without reflecting too much.
@niek0244 ай бұрын
@@rubreaker1 It clearly also is a matter of taste. I know that, puristically, Bach 'should' be played on a harpsichord, but I think it sounds amazing on a modern grand piano.
@dorette-hi4j4 ай бұрын
Why not have a go at the orchestra, while you're at it. Gut strings? Baroque bows? And then, what type of harpsichord? One that Bach would have used in the 1730s, or just any old harpsichord? Bach was quite happy to transcribe Italian violin concertos for harpsichord and organ. This very two-harpsichord concerto was (probably) originally composed for violin and oboe. Bach was no pedantic purist. I enjoyed this performance; I disagree that there was no phrasing; I even noted a few touches of expressive alterations of tempo (which I suppose is what you mean wrongly by rubato). I thought the jury was out about final ritardandi, but perhaps you can point me to the latest definitive statements of musicologists. In any case, it is a performance for today, not a museum replica. Of course it is anachronistic. Brahms on a harpsichord? Some pieces, possibly. But it is easier to imitate a harpsichord on a Steinway (if that is what you want to do) than the other way round.
