Great videos that you have filmed giving everyone the oppertunity to see how the great HS2 infrastructure project is taking shape l am 65 years old and have never seen a project of this scale before the amazing work of the hs2 teams is awesome it’s a shame that it wil not come to sheffield where l live before the northern section was axed by a short sighted gov who could’nt see beyond the end of their nose but my daughter lives berkshire so that will do Thanks again great final Dominique video Kev Beighton Parkway sheffield model railway

I hope we don't lose these skills. We need more infrastructure projects to keep them alive, whether they are conduits, water/sewage flow, road or rail.

That's a big risk with the cancellation of phase 2 and tunnelling passed its peak. The only work to go onto will be Euston Tunnel. Could have a Channel Tunnel situation all over again, where skilled workers leave the UK.

@@Rail_Focus There's a real opportunity to export that business but big UK construction firms rarely do. I mean look at Sweden's Skanska, they're truly global you look at McAlpine (as an example) and you never see them outside the UK.

Balfour Beatty, Kier, Laing O'Rourke all work overseas. Interesting point about Sir Robert McAlpine who specialise in very large jobs but are not that huge in turnover terms at just under 1 billion a year. When I worked for Kier they offered me a job in 2011 in Iraq where they had a contract to build 3 hospitals just before Isis invaded the country. They never did get built.

@@Rail_Focus Lower Thames Crossing; Crossrail- 2; Silwerstone tunnel but it is ready today. Now biggest infrastructure works in Europe come to life in England ( UK). Hikley point C we have tunneling works.. Sizewell B this is twining project. I' m not from England but I know. You must be proud , no is pessimi. Britain dont duty pay to EU annual payment. From 01.01 2021 UK isn't member of EU. This in lot of money. For NHS ; Transport ; for Education . Development in Birmingham warrantable expense to HS2. Birminghams parties.

I’m hoping that the new government will keep its promise to invest much more in infrastructure. Not holding my breath they have already cancelled the A303 upgrade.

I think those tunnel machines are boring… I’ll get my coat 😜 Why do the tunnel diameters differ in size? I’d have thought that having them one size would save on costs…

The size depends on the speed, the faster the train the more air is squeezed as the train travels through the tunnel. The trains will be traveling at 320km/h through Chiltern and Long Itchington tunnels, but only around 200-240km/h through Bromford.

All the engineering works in constructing HS2 are impressive, including this, but Bromford Tunnel is particularly disappointing in one respect, its reliance on road transport. Other tunnels’ segments & other materials are being transported by rail, & their spoil taken away by conveyor & rail!

@@rtruscott There were/are other HS2 tunnels which have ring segments delivered by road. With regards to the spoil, it's all being used locally so it doesn't need to be transported by rail. None of the spoil is being transported on the local road network. Similarly with the Chiltern Tunnel, the spoil was processed and used close to the Southern portal. The only reason Northolt Tunnel is reliant on rail transport is because there's nowhere locally on the HS2 route requiring the spoil.
