Nice flight! Bet the residents will be happy when all the digging is done! ;-)

Nice coverage. I am not happy about the the way that HS2 has been procured BUT, this is the only condition on the entire route that can be confidently stated to improve the environment through which it passes - a tunnel in place of an abandoned railway cutting with original ground levels reinstated. Pity the environmental goodwill ended at Burton Green and didn't extend in either direction beyond it

Well thats not true now is it. This is far from the only place this sort of thing is happening, and HS2 is currently building new woodlands, meadows and wetlands. Much of the hoo har about the environmental damage is because some people have never seen a building site before and others with agendas like to misrepresent stats like claiming its destroying every woodland within a mile of it which is truly hilarious IMO.

@@Whiskey2shots I don't normally continue a thread but I will on this one. I am not questioning the mitigation efforts that HS2 are implementing, but I strongly believe that the work at Burton Green is the only occurrence of a positive improvement to what was there before. I admit to having thought about the way certain railway environments can positively improve their landscape - an aesthetically dysfunctional character might not perceive Ribblehead Viaduct as a superb landmark, but only time will tell whether the setting of Wendover Viaduct in the Chiltern Hills will achieve the same classic status

It is going to be what they call a green tunnel eventually all that you see will be covered in concrete and soil will be put over it and the it will be grassed over so you will only see the entrance and exit for it . These trains will be going at high speed so I feel sorry for the houses right by it because I’m sure there will be vibrations . Thanks buddy for your continued support appreciate your comments.😎

Thanks for video! Btw when did the old bridge get demolished?

I have to say I wasn't expecting there to be a retained cutting after the actual tunnel. So I had a look on the Plan and Profile map and sure enough, there it is, but called "Burton Green retaining structure. This is rather more than just a retained cutting with walls either side, because it has beams across the cutting connecting the two walls. Why this has been done, I'm not sure.
@Whiskey2shots7 ай бұрын
As i understand it the particular soil here expands quite heavily due to water so its to keep the walls up, its been done to great success on much of HS1 through london

Probably because of economics. To build an unpropped retaining wall would have meant either a different type of wall and a thicker wall. So a cost exercise reveals a propped wall in this situation to be cheaper.
