We need LOADS more green bridges all over the world. The fact that HS2 is building them is great, because they should be a staple of any road or rail project. There are economic benefits to keeping two sides of a railway/road connected by natural paths.

Your right it's unfortunate the project has gone way over budget and has been scaled back

From The HS2 Website: The 99-metre-wide Turweston Green Bridge is the largest on the high-speed route and will cross the railway. Also: Thirty-six steel beams will support the structure, with pre-cast concrete slabs forming the deck. 2,700cubic metres of earth will then be landscaped over the top, with the hedgerows, shrubs and other vegetation planted last.

I can see why you may need to put a wide bridge in for the road, future proof for a dual carriageway with shoulders, nature route, bridal way, farmers bridge and local road and foot connections, after all it will not be that much more expensive, but isnt it a bit wide for 2 strips of railway? I think that we could have tunnelled from london to glasgow for less than 100bn

Its 1/2 bridge 1/2 cutting that why the bridge has such a long span, its the width thats rediculous

It allows for a junction of 4 roads and a track all meeting on a bend in the main road, all retaining their existing alignments, and also providing a ‘green bridge’ space alongside separate to the roads for wildlife. I don’t know how you force the wildlife to use the green bridge, perhaps they’re all being briefed separately… 😂

@@Paul_707 1 PRIVATE ROAD, that also serves as public bridleway TUW/4. bridleway TUW/9 would have been less impacted if at all by keeping close to original alignment footpath TUW/5 would have been less impacted if at all by keeping close to original alignment footpath TUW/3 could have had a separate small bridge That's 1 private road/bridleway, 1 bridleway amd 2 footpaths that I can see on the map. where is the main road? where are the other roads?

Would anyone risk a grade crossing on a high speed line ?

Not think it is rather wide compared to the single track road it is replacing?

I must remember to move south to Birmingham and then get a job in London, just so I can make use of HS2. Do people not realise how few actually commute on a daily basis between those two cities ? What a joke.

It's not being built for commuters, it's being built for the millions of people a year who use long-distance trains between London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, many of whom have to stand the whole way in crammed vestibules. It also has the added bonus of freeing up the legacy tracks for more local and freight services. Either you've been misled, or are trying to mislead.

clickbait nonsense: it's future proofing, and not for just decades. This is the standard you build to. Next >>>

Future proofing? That is not what HS2 say about it, it is going to be landscaped. Compare the width of the bridge with the vehicles under it, it is a massive structure.
@RickD62

Future proofing is building something twice the width needed, even a very good bridleway is 6m wide, this is 99m, 15 times the width needed!
