All major companies in pre-independence Zimbabwe had apprenticeship programmes that produced the best artisans we have today. We all know why things are the way they are now.

Yet some Zimbabweans swear that Zim is developing in a major way. Some of our people need to swallow their pride and admit the to the disaster unfolding before our eyes. After all, a problem can’t be solved without acknowledging its existence.

A disaster is unfolding when for the first time in its history Zimbabwe produced surplus wheat? When Zimbabwe is producing tobacco more than was ever produced in Rhodesia? When each Province has a University which never happened in Rhodesia? When no child now walks more than 10 km to the nearest school which never happened under Rhodesia. When we have a growing mining sector which never happened under Rhodesia? Go on hallucinating. Your ignorance is not what determines Zimbabwe's future.

@ I’m certainly not hallucinating when I see a country with the highest rate of inflation in the world. -A country with no formal sector. Over 90% of the economy is informal, which means there’s no tax base. -No wonder the infrastructure has crumbled. -No medicines or decent in hospitals. People are literally seeking medical care in neighbouring countries such as SA and Zambia. -You brag of a bumper wheat harvest. That’s just zanu pf propaganda. The country is overly reliant on foreign aid. -You speak of major universities being built, yet there’s there’s hardly any employment? Young people are getting qualifications, only to become vendors. -As we speak, hoards of people are leaving the country, some even risking their lives in doing so. It was much better when the universities were fewer but jobs more plentiful. It’s a shame your pride is preventing you from admitting what you already know.

@@ChrisNeville-e1i The situation in Zim is dire. Not sure why you’re denying it. -Unemployment rate is over 90%. -Just building more universities without the creation of jobs is pointless. Most young people are graduating, only to become jobless. -Bumper harvest wheat claims are laughable. That’s zanu pf propaganda mate! Zim is heavily reliant on food aid. -You may try to sugar coat it all you like, but the reality is that millions of Zimbabweans (possibly yourself too) have fled the country due to the deplorable conditions. We wouldn’t be talking of a brain drain if that weren’t the case.

Started German School in Zimbabwe? This is not correct. In the early 1990s, I once attended The Zimbabwe German Society/ Goethe Zentrum Harare ( Goethe Institut) to learn Deutsch. It used to be near Greenwood Park. I'm not sure if it still exists.

It's the education system that needs changing. The African youth need to be trained with modern skills to create self employment like eating money online through e-commerce, trading Forex, futures, options and stocks now that the internet is here. We don't need to live the continent l. Need the skilled individuals, daispora and government to facilitate this new trend. Remember that earning in US dollars on line goes far in Africa

You are both getting it totally wrong on the opening of borders. regional economic integration is a project Africa is working on. Remember 50 years ago there was no SADC which you now refer to as if it has always been there. There was no COMESA. There was no KAZA visa. The EU project started with the Treaty of Rome in 1957. So appreciate that regional economic integration is not achieved through political declarations but is achieved through programs for regional economic integration, and there are a number of stages that lead to an economic union. You may wish to read on the subject and educate yourselves than take emotive attitudes on the subject.
