From what I hear right now, HTC might have produced a phone that's actually solid in every aspect. Great performance, good battery life, nice look, great cameras, stock-like software (which is also supported for a while), beautiful display and consistent speakers. If you don't really care about those extra features then the HTC 10 might be the best option for you!

+TechnoBuffalo It's a gorgeous phone, I love the design of it, the influence of M7's design can be seen clearly. Not yet sure how I feel about the 2-way speaker vs. stereo front-firing but at least one of the speakers is firing forward. A 2-way setup actually makes a lot of sense which I had not considered before for a phone. So yes, I will buy it but not yet. I'm going to wait until it's price dips to 700€ or below in Finland. Current 749€ from HTC/799€ from carrier is just too much considering it is the 32GB variant. At least you lucky Americans have that 100$ discount available for the preorder! 599$ plus taxes for me would be under 660€'s. For that price I'd order it in a heartbeat! 700€'s is where I draw the line for a flagship with only 32GB of internal storage and not even a cent more. Sure it does come with the supposedly OK in-ear headphones and the QC 3.0 charger, with which you could try and justify the price: a) most people already have good IEM's/headphones, like I do, so no. b) that should be standard in the box if you're advertising that feature, the cost of the charger in BOM for HTC is peanuts...so no. And that's about it. But, like I said, I will buy it but not yet. I'm not in a hurry, my M7 thankfully still has life left in it.

Dennis Thorsson Of course it is positive haha. Apart from battery life, the GS6 was the best phone of the year (at least for me, I don't like big phones). I own a GS6 edge. What I meant was, last year, I fell in love with the GS6, and it was truly something new from Samsung. This year, Samsung only adressed the complaints about the GS6 with the GS7, they didn't really do something new. The 10 is really something new for HTC, thats why it's the GS6 of this year :D

Great review (as always)! I'm not sure if this is the phone for me because I'm still using the HTC M7 roll-out model (the model in which the sensor in the camera heats up and causes a purple hue around the edges of the shot) and am looking for a different experience with Android (more than likely the S7 Edge). I am from Thailand and I have using HTC for about 3-4 years now. The marketing here is bad; little people know of my phone and its brand. However, due to my personal experience with HTC, I am loyal to it. I have recently bought the HTC 10 from a local store that imports devices from abroad. I believe the one I'm using is from Taiwan and I love using it as my daily driver. Everything seems great so far...except the fact that the HTC Thailand seems rarely active about such great devices on the global market!

Thanks for the review! My last three phones were HTC (Desire HD, One X and One M8) and I loved them. Only issue was the cameras and I was hoping HTC would improve it or I'd switch to Samsung for my next phone. If the camera is as good as the reviews so far are saying, I'll stick with HTC.

HTC are back... I am very happy about this. I bought an HTC M8s in December. Within a week, I swapped it for the Sony XPERIA Z5. It is superior in every way. I would rather have had the M8 over the M8s and the Z5, but it was no longer available. I didn't want the M9 because I'd used it before and it was, well, shockingly bad, especially in comparison to my M7. I've had loads of HTC's over the years, and they've all been great until the M8s, but after 2 years of bad phones, they seem to be going in the right direction again

I have one question that hasn't been answered in any of the reviews yet. With the case covering the screen and in the sun does it make the screen easier to see and less reflective? If it does that would really make taking pictures much better. It's always difficult to see what the camera is taking in direct sunlight.

I'm HTC customer since HTC One x and now I have HTC One M9+ HTC the only company that makes a hell of a good UI and software plus the SOUND the only fall in all past generations is the camera and yet with HTC 10 it seems not be a killer camera overall at least not over the s7 or g5 but they did a good job after all. now I can say for sure I'm not going to buy another HTC unless they smash the s7 and 6s in performance and battery life

very happy that htc got it right, been looking for their phones past few years looking for these improvements and this year they made good. Was waiting for screen bump in resolution or quality, battery life, and camera to improve, was hoping for 2 front facing speakers since you do need to hear on a phone/media device, but will see what happens with this setup sounds good from what i hear because lets face it we all want to maximize screen real estate. Always going to be critics, just boils down to how you feel after you get the device in your hand and live with it for a while then you will say yess, and sort out what changes you like, want, and need for future. Htc always has beautiful phones so thats a plus giving you the option to have a case or just enjoy it as it, and with a metal body you for sure can feel good with that option. wouldnt mind rubberized strip, silicon strip, or kevlar strip for grip on midsection or somewhere of phone for grip purposes but hey i could get a skin or even modify/cut a skin for that purpose so no biggie at all, would just be a cool idea in my eyes. Thanks again phonedog and J.R for good videos im getting this phone over g5, unless motorola wows me somehow or the lg v10 comes out soon with incredible look and with an app drawer as default. I purposely didnt say samsung just because i like to be different and not have the phone everyone else already has i just like to be a little different and my own person just preference. love the "oddball" stuff. i dare to be different

Hey Jon, first off I wanna say i've been watching your videos since you reviewed the M7 and you're by far my favorite, and the first reviewer I always look for when I phone comes out! That being said I wanted to give a couple of observations. No doubt that this phone is an awesome culmination of design from HTC, a company who's reputation is built upon their design, but I can't help but think its not going to make as big of a splash as its predecessors the M7 and M8 did. Would you agree that the competition at this point is so good that its difficult for HTC to stand out as much as they did back in 2013 and 2014? I just get the feeling that objectively this phone is an amazing device thats leaps and bounds better than its predecessors, but when put in the context of todays market, its just a good phone, solid would be the best way to describe it. I guess my question is, do you personally feel as excited about the 10 as you did the M7 or M8? Thanks!!

The HTC 10 is impressive. I've never used HTC so I asked some friends that use HTC (or at least used to). One told me he "discovered" the beauty of Samsung's screen and never looked back. Another said he just might upgrade (from the M8). The other is still mulling it over but if he does upgrade it will be the HTC 10. So HTC does have its loyal followers. (I'm waiting for the Samsung Note 6)

Hey Jon, I enjoy all of your reviews and I want to get your perspective on the HTC 10 for battery life. I recently purchased this phone and everything you've said about it is true. Except one thing. The battery life started off as you stated in the first week or two. Then recently for some reason the battery started to drain rather quickly not being able to get through the day. Seems very strange. I've done everything from lowering screen brightness, turning off sync options, any special features that drains the battery. It has not solved the problem. Do you think I just so happened to get a phone with a faulty battery? Help!!!

wondering if htc gallery app is availabe on htc 10. from what i understand, google photos app replaces the gallery app on htc. will i be able to download it if its not pre installed?

I would definitely be buying this phone. having the best experience of any phones in my life with my HTC m8 for 2 years that has never given me any problems and not even frozen once, super reliable and still outperforms my cousin's galaxy s6 in every way and looks way better and more premium than any other phone out there and would work for a decade but I have to go for the HTC 10 cause I want a fingerprint scanner and a top of the range camera

Good review Jon. I like how you mentioned that the screen is very responsive; HTC have claimed that it is the most responsive screen today and it's good to see that it's more than just marketing speak. How would you rate performance compared to the S7? And as far as cameras go, you say S7 is still the king - would you rate the 10 better than the G5?

Starting to like it more and more w/each passing day and good reviews....my hang up was not having the front firing speakers. When Sprint gets it, i'll go check it out for myself and listen to how it sounds. Have the m8 Hardon/Karman edition. Love the phone and want to stick w/HTC. If I get the 10, giving my m8 to my son...:)
