It's not about whether a region has a single currency, it's actually about which currency are the major international financial instruments and trades pegged to. Most of the international trades are done in dollars. So, the dominance of another currency creates a dollar dominance problem for the USA.

Dr Jaishankar is just representing India's interest over here. We have a larger partnership with the Americans on the Indo Pacific issue. We have a direct border problem with China. It is not an India's interest to weaponize BRICS. In fact most of the BRICS countries have threat from China more, in the form of debt crisis and China offering billions of dollars of loan with their cranky terms and conditions, taking up parts of these nations on century long leases. For most of the small countries in BRICS, the BRICS is just as a pedestal to improve relations with the world. These small countries don't want to face the heat of the US' anger. But certain powers like Russia and China want dedollarisation. Actually dollar strengthening, helps exporters because if China is a net net exporter, then the more their currency devaluates, the better it is for its exports. India is on a transition, where it is going to become a major exporter of commodities as the current government is making a lot of changes to reduce regulatory redtape in manufacturing economy. In three to four years, India will be a major exporter of small chips and ICs. And we will also start making companies like Intel and Nvidia. These companies have already started setting up research centres in India. So in the international world, currency value doesn't really matter, what matters is what fraction of the global supply chain depends on you. Today a major fraction of supply chains depend on China, and China is using that to its advantage. From buckets to buildings every product requires some ingredients which mainly come from China. So of course when the blame of the dollarization and weaponizing BRICS is concerned, we should be on the back foot, it hurts our business. So it's not that Jaishankar is uncomfortable or hesitating to weaponize BRICS, he is just wanted to keep both these partnerships stable and safe from each other. Which is why Jaishankar is asserting for more participative diplomacy. India is sort of a loose link, with both Quad as well as BRICS. We don't want both these partnerships to be weaponized, coz weaponising BRICS will be a direct threat to Quad, and weaponizing Quad will be a direct threat to BRICS. So let them grow separately and we shall reap benefits from both of them.

It doesn't matter. This just propaganda. BRICS as been around for over twenty years and in all that time they love to stroke people's ego but they don't much. The only one that does Ok is China, but they spent way too much money on their "Belt and Road initiative". Most nations only trade with China and not with other countries.

BRICS will work on that, i am sure, but my fear is that India is the weakness link. India wavers too much and, in my opinion, cannot be trusted. India does not stick to policies as a unit it goes for personal interests, and that is doomed to failure in any partnerships. Like the Baltic states and Poland, Russia sacrificed a hell of a lot for their freedom and has also done for India through history.This man changes his mind depending on whom he is speaking to and does not give that satisfaction of a reliable partner.

If around 30 major countries in South East Asia, Africa and South America joins BRICS then Trump wil be isolated and will not be able to put sanctions of not using the Dollar. So in a few years time Brics currency will be a reality. Trade within Brics will be more than 60% of world trade and Dollar value will plunge.

There only one problem. People want American food because most nations don't have good farmland. Also, people want American Iphones. To abandon the US dollar you need to make or manufacturing things that other nations need. Right now many of those countries cannot feed themselves and they don't know how to make a car let alone an Iphone. So their own local currency isn't worth much outside of their nation and the American US dollar will be in big demanded.
