@@iwuvpiesgaming9164 I think the song can be interpreted 2 different ways, if it isn't actually the darkness that causes the flower to cry like the people telling it to look at the moon insist and it's a flower that needs little light but enough water to grow, then it could be asking people to listen to what someone actually needs. However, if it is the darkness and the flower is refusing to listen, then it could be a case of people craving what they want not what they need. I personally think it's the first case scenario but that's probably me projecting.

@@Luisrean Well, unfortunately I didn't finish the show and I'm not that far into the manga, so I don't know what side the story takes. However, the song alone makes me remember all the times I felt alone and needed support, but i was just told to be seen and not heard, to man up and not be too sensitive; and was expected to always excel. I did learn to do that, but I could tell that it wasn't being true to myself because even if I hid those feelings of solitude, inadequacy, and frustration they didn't go away. Even to this day I'm still learning how to undo all those negative patterns and to trust others again; slightly less alone but still alone none the less. On the other hand, I can see someone with the opposite experience seeing themselves being told what they actually needed but refusing to listen. Of course this is all with my assumption that the flower isn't actually evil, since I don't think true good and evil are all that common or always opposites.

@@SadPeachCat You should definitely read the manga its a psychological journey. Along with Oshimi Shuzu's other works. But what basically happens is that Nanako becomes obsessed with Kasuga. Kasuga gets raped by Nanako, he tries to kill himself to impress Nakamura and he and her leave town. Kasuga's family moves away, and Nakamura moves to live with her mother. Kasuga becomes an emotional wreck because of everything he and Nakamura did, and he has trouble moving on. But he apologizes to the people he hurt and finds a girlfriend. Before he decides to marry his girlfriend, he meets Nakamura one more time. And...she's what I assume is heavily medicated and still in the place they were in as kids. She tells Kasuga to be normal, and he does. Story ends with an older family man Kasuga having a dream about Nakamura. In an extra chapter we see that Nakamura had severe depression and saw everyone as pieces of shit covered in flies. It's only when she saw Kasuga (stealing Nanako's panties), did she see him as a human being.

This song is about a flower, or person, that rejects the norms and ethics that society pushes onto them. They fear and cry in the face of this wind or pressure to conform and be "normal." The author focuses a lot on the word "hentai" meaning "abnormality," and on the theme of puberty. The feelings of self-consciousness, and self-awareness that puberty introduces that they have not yet felt or understood. They feel as though they are abnormal and struggle with either embracing or discarding this abnormality. Some never learn how to deal with these feelings, and are stuck in an emotional puberty. These people have within them flowers of evil (Aku no Hana) that represent the urge to destroy, whether that be to destroy societal norms, destroy people's perceptions of them, or just to wreak havoc against the code of ethics that society pushes onto us. These flowers sometimes never bloom in some (as seen through Saeki in the anime/manga), and sometimes they bloom too strongly to ignore (as seen in the case of Nakamura). Regardless, the seeds are within all of us, at varying stages of growth. The flower needs light in order to change, to grow into something complete and beautiful, or it can simply subsist off of water, remaining in it's current state until it dies (also seen through Nakamura, as she was unable to grow and fell victim to her nihilism, likely isolating herself from everyone until the day she died or successfully killed herself). At the end of the song, the flower starts to realize how important the light is, but is still afraid of the wind. It knows it needs the light, but desires water and to live in the comfort of the darkness. The song ends with the flower falling prey to its own nihilism and fear, saying that it doesn't need light, just give it some water. It can be seen as a theme of how people often discard that which they need in favor of that which they desire. Becoming victims to their desire, lust, greed, gluttony, or otherwise, the flower denies what it needs, condemning itself to death without growth. It's a fantastic piece of art with a variety of different possible interpretations. I think that the failure of the flower to grow and accept the light that it needs is a beautifully tragic ending and shows how easily we can ignore our needs and become victims to our desire. We fear conformity, we hold our self-consciousness tightly and oftentimes never let it go, we fear our own growth or the possibility of failing to grow. We don't want to lose our individuality and shun the light and wind, fully embracing our "id," or base desires, regardless of the harm it will do to ourselves and others. Some of us learn to accept the light and withstand the wind, remaining as individuals who have fully grown into people who are happy, people who embrace themselves and their true desires without losing sight of what they need. Only when we learn to balance our needs with our desires can we be functional, happy, and fulfilled.

When I watched the anime it really captured me so I decided to read the real collection of poems by Baudelaire. I started trying to identify some characters as themes of Baudelaire poetry but it didn't work very well. Then I bought the mangas and read them all so now I have an actual personal understanding of the characters. Nice to see I wasn't the only one who thought about Freud; Kasuga, Nakamura and Saeki were too "human", too variable to identify one character as a "theme" like if it was some sort of stereotype, they were complete, but not balanced. When I studied Plato at school our teacher showed us Freud's iceberg as we were doing the "Phaedrus", in which there s told the myth of the winged chariot; in this myth Plato basically explains how our soul is divided in three parts, exactly like the psyche for Freud, and to live happily you have to balance these parts, it 's similar. With your "ego" you have to balance super-ego which was quite strong in Saeki (especially in the anime) and your "Id", obviously Nakamura's predominant part. Amazing analysis, real quality comment.

I've only watched the anime, not the manga for context (though i have started reading the manga as of late). I really connected with takao, as a person with ocd tendancies that experiences ocd episodes on the regular. He was like if everything i feared happening did happen, and I can totally relate with that feeling of like you need to pretend? Im not really sure how to explain it tbh. It's like you hold yourself to this godly standard, and sometimes you feel like you should just let go, be depraved, like a pervert, but you don't actually want that, and in fact would like anything else than that. You end up building this other worldly moralistic version of yourself that can't exist. You are plagued with fears you'll impulsively do something evil. Something unforgivable, to others but more importantly something you would never truely want, something you'd never want to do or desire. But maybe you secretly do desire that, and thats terrifying because you *don't* but what if you do and are lying to yourself? Would it be better to give in and stop lying to yourself? Just live without a regard for consequences? But you're not enjoying these thoughts, you really want them and are terrified of them. But you always doubt what you want, which makes these thoughts harder to dismiss. Takao is if those fears and thoughts were real. Thats what I related to in the anime version of Takao. He seemed to hate his perverted side, but longed for it also to stop pretending. He held himself to a standard he couldnt reach, in regards to his book and his understanding of it. All these little things he said and did, connected with me in nonsensical ways that really do make sense the closer you look. Nakamura was someone I also connected with, but in a completely different way that I can't explain. She reminds me of my past self, at the very least. Aku no hana is truely amazing, and its animation style is, while different, gorgeous. It really is a strange but beautiful piece of art. sorry if this was ranty or pretentious, I'm a lil drunk tbh
@cyberpsykoh66862 жыл бұрын
@@whatisthis1958 well, can't argue with that... you're right, mister. It doesn't sound ranty nor pretentious so dw. I actually had a Nakamura-Takao contract/relationship type of sht before, it was pretty toxic but I learned how to love and understand my Naka. It was pretty one-sided, if you're gonna look into my perspective. But I didn't care what it was, didn't care if she doesn't love me back. I just wanted us to go to the other side together but nah. An apathetic woman like her wouldn't do that for an ordinary human like me. She was gone for 4 years but now I've found her again. She's way different than before. And I am way better than before.

@livedandletdie3 жыл бұрын
I'll have to agree with your statement, there's only a few other songs, that makes me feel like I sound possessed. And if you like fucked up music, well first of all, you can listen to more Asa Chang & Junray songs, they're all weird. And if you want to enter the world of the truly bizarre music, let me recommend an artist very few listens to, known as passenger of shit. Trust me, he's a really good musician and composer, hence why his songs that are meant to sound extremely awful, are a mixture of the most beautiful melodies, screams, growling, drum beats, etc... And trust me, even the parts that are supposed to be horrible all meld together to a chaotic beauty carefully constructed, sure he has some normal songs, like worms. Here's what you do, first listen to "Passenger of Shit - WORMS" , then you take a listen to "Passenger of Shit - When the heart fails" then you check out The Faecalibrium album. Then you check out his most famous song, "Staple Tapeworms to my Penis". Swift Treweeke the Aussie behind all of this is a musical genius, and his record label SHIT WANK Studios is amazing, it's very underground music though. And not to everyone's tastes. Very special. But it's consistent and not even the parts that should be negatives in the songs are carefully planned and very carefully planned out.

The first time I found this song, it ended around 2:30. I didn’t know it was longer. I loved to show it to my friends to scare them.

Honestly this song makes the anime sound a LOT worse than it actually is. It's not gorey or anything. It's more uncomfortable and awkward and just... _real_

Fr its so real i dont understand why people hate this anime the animation fits so well and everything is so good.. I also wish there was a second season
@thequietlife68953 жыл бұрын
I read it because the style of animation they used in the anime differed so far from the original work and wasn't really sure I wanted to watch that. However, this outro is a great fit for the incredibly serious nature of the manga. It's one of my favourite manga and i would recommend it to just about anyone who sees this.

Im'ma keep it real witchu, when I watched the first episode of this anime, and then this song started playing, I freaked the fuck out. Chill down the spine, goosebumps, the works.

Same just now seeing it and I binged the whole thing. I will have to revisit at least ep 1 to relive that feeling again. Most terrifyingly relatable part of the whole anime

Was watching live jp channels at midnight few weeks ago and was just changing channels when I stumbled upon a random one showing the last few minutes of this anime I've never seen or heard of before, it was something about a boy checking out someone's flute like thing...when the ending started, I felt my stomach churn lmfao ever since that day the first line of this song was stuck in my head, so I decided to look for it today ....damn what a creepy ass song...😭😭😭

everyone who has watched aku no hana i recommend you to listen to hana by asa chang&junray, which plays during that classroom wrecking scene, it just makes that scene so oddly eerily beautiful. the lyrics are the same and no doubt both are amazing

It's amazing how many interpretations this has. The flower or flowers could be Kasuga and Nakamura. The wind or the storm being the world around them, the people, the city. Two flowers that never saw the light, and that were beaten by the storm. The difference is that one flower bloomed earlier than the other.
