Huawei's design is simply smarter: re-use camera on both side to remove notch. re-use screen on both side so you can have a full screen while folded. Samsung's design is basically unusable while folded. On Huawei's design, you get notch-less full display both folded and unfolded. On Samsung's design, you get a notch display while unfolded, and a tiny screen while folded. Samsung probably has better technology, but Huawei's design absolutely crushes Samsung on this one.

I have to disagree for simple reason...a typical human hand the most can only manage to grip securely up to around 6 inch diagonal device...so not surprise the most phones screen max around 6 inch..anything longer than that i don't see how one can maintain proper secure grip while on the move especially with the other hand not always conveniently available ?! So overall speaking, this folding phones concept i don't find it too practical or impressive as such ! The high price resulting in poor cost:benefit also does not help.

@Mr BuzzKill It really doesn't matter which way the screen folds, until someone can invent a magical type of plastic that doesn't rapidly degrade after being folded thousands of times, and can at least be scratch-resistant to fingernails while still remaining flexible, the foldable screen concept has no future. All these current foldable screens are guaranteed to look like a dogs breakfast in less than a year with daily use.

Way better design, yes it is a bit thicker but is that weird with 2 seperate batteries? One for the inner screen and one for the outer screen. Samsung has a better idea imo. Galaxy Fold inside screen also have this thick frame around that it looks like it has a case. Huawei and Samsung really have different approach on how they designed their foldables beyond which way it folds.

@kan wang yes you can prove it with common sense. Mate x is outward folding. Meaning it has 270 degrees of screen that's fully exposed and prone to breaking and scratching. The fold on the other hand is inward folding and is protected like a book. Far more intuitive practical and durable.

From an aesthetic perspective, yes. From an engineering perspective, no. Currently, folding smartphones uses plastic screens. Glass doesn't bend well. Having the screen bend on the outside like Huawei makes it hard to make a proper casing and scratches far more easily. I predict that after few months of usage, Huawei's phone will have more scratches (especially in the folding section) than Samsung.

@@spell-o-dac-tylb4198 I don't see it from an engineer perspective either personally (although it is the first era of foldable phones) the Samsung has 3 screens overall meaning there will always be an exposed screen still, that's also going to make it a heavy weight and pricey thing. Not only is it ugly it's not really practical at all. Like I said I wish we stayed away from foldable phones not many people can afford them or want them. I'm usually all for new innovation but I don't like these phones one bit

@@betablockrr While I don't know this for sure, the outer display on the Samsung should be made from glass right? Since it's not part of the folding screen. We can agree though that the gap when folded and thickness is a downside. I guess they can't find a way(yet) to make it fold flat and have to sacrifice the thickness. Well the concept is young, I'd wait for another 3-5 years for the design to improve.
