******Awesome review***** I've had mine since May21st. I drove 3 hours one way to Houston for it. I absolutely love it. I definitely don't regret the drive and cant knock this pc at all. Huawei has came along way. Ultra lite with a beautiful design it is solid. Ive been able to play a few games on med to low quality such as state of decay 2 and world of warships on ultra quality and it doesn't stutter. It does get warm but as he said it doesn't burn you. Andrew where did you get this battery indicator on the toolbar?
@richardstromquist16 жыл бұрын
I've had one for about 3 weeks... I love everything about it except that it seems really sluggish when doing anything on office. I've been working with largish excel files (under 1 gb) at it is super laggy. It has a harder time opening up multiple 10+ excel windows than my 5 year old work Lenovo with i5.... This is pretty disappointing to me, I don't know if its just mine, I've run some benchmarks and they are in-line with others.. probably going to return for the xps 15... though I'll miss the sleek design and screen.

Just got my Matebook X Pro yesterday. Some thoughts on things hard to judge when not in person: Display: Lives up to the hype. Absolutely astounding. No other laptop comes close to beating it Trackpad: only average. Better on the Surface Laptop or a Macbook Pro. Keyboard: Surprisingly good, considering its size. Better than the Macbook Pro. Feels really good. Thermals: not great. Got warm from 4k video with multitasking. Gigantic heat sink helps. Fans are quiet. Speakers: Terrific, but not way better than the Macbook Pro. Overall, I think the display and speakers are class leading, with build quality almost class leading, perhaps trailing just the Macbooks. Performance is about what you expect from a quad-core i5 or i7. Really wish it had an SD slot.

Having worked with Macbook and XPS models this is by far the best value for the price. When you buy through Microsoft you get a $300 gift back and if you throw on that a the Teacher/Student discount it lowers the price to 1320CAD for an i7 16GB version. I've had mine for a few weeks now and haven't regretted the purchase one day. Light Adobe work in PS and AE is handled well via the internal GPU. Battery lasts about 8-10 dependent on work.

Great review! I have, however, removed the heatsink and battery out of my MBXP to fix an issue with my loose trackpad. The heatsink was easier than I thought to remove, but keeping track of all of the different size screws was a bit of a pain. I taped up the back of my tackpad with automotive wire tape (Coroplast 839), but electrical tape would probably work as well. While the heatsink was removed, I decided to put better thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. This, and undervolting the CPU by 100mV, helped tremendously with the thermals. Temps from the bottom of the case while streaming this video (with 15 other Chrome tabs open) peaked at 97.5°F but was steady around 96°F. Plus, I get over an hour of extra battery life because of the undervolting. While it wasn't perfect for me out of the box, it is darn close after a few minor changes. Next to figure out some of the trackpad glitches I have been noticing. (Hopefully a driver update will fix it)
@AU126 жыл бұрын
Before the thermal paste and undervolting, case temps were frequently 102-103°F, although that was not worse than my mid-2014 15" Retina MBP with i7 and Nividia dGPU

They made it so cheap in the US so US citizens really want it and to get attention(because the government tells people to be wary of Huawei) Its also a super aggressive move to push apple out of the spotlight. Its why this laptop is 800 dollars more in Europe (priced at 1900 euro for the i7). The market in europe is already highly influenced by huawei, and they sell way more here. So there is no need to make a move like that in the EU. It also means that money they might lose in the US, gets compensated from EU. Sadlife...
@patrickphilbin57396 жыл бұрын
Huawei is new to the PC world, a mostly closed market not welcoming to new members. This is evident in there laptops. While the x pro might resemble other pc manufacturers designs (apple) it has to improve in areas where other companies fail. One such area is price. (Apple) while I think the us government's concern on security might have forced them to drop prices slightly, I think that the reason the laptop offers such bang for your buck is because huawei is a newcomer in north America and they need to adapt to that.

I agree with you for the most part. It would be THE perfect ultrabook in 2020 if they had shifted the webcam to the top and incorporated a decent microphone array. Alas that has not changed even in the 2020 model and this restricts its versatility. I've had mine since 2018 but working from home in the UK during lockdown has excposed its videoconferencing limitations. Yeah, that'll be perfect. MX Pro seems to be a marriage of: Surface Laptop (3:2) + Macbook (USB-C/aesthetics), without the outrageous prices of higher configs. That'll basically be a Surface Book 2 with 360 hinges (and probably less weight), owning a SB2 turns out I appreciate Yoga hinges more, lol!

SO they do have quality issues people were worrying about. I'd guess that is the risk for the price (sentimentally speaking). Huawei is a new OEM for Laptop arena, so I guess they will have issues on first/2nd gen products (though they're phone track record isn't great either). The only thing I appreciate out of this MX Pro would be: 1) Price and 2) The direction it leaves for Ultrabooks--this was basically a USB-C Surface Laptop without the ridiculous i7 prices of MS. Honestly I guess you saved me from pulling the trigger to buy it, thx.

Andrew Marc, you put out great reviews for both the Mateboo X Pro and the XPS 13 9370. I'm having the toughest time choosing one. Huawei's lack of reliable customer service makes me hesitant. Nevertheless which machine would you recommend? Which do you feel is the better machine? I'm not a gamer, I'm just an average user. Stream, surf and Microsoft office are my main tasks.
@andrewmarcdavid6 жыл бұрын
I feel your pain, this is a very tough decision. I love both machines to be honest, so either way are getting an excellent device. I like the 3:2 aspect ratio better on the Matebook X Pro. Dell will get you better customer support. You do get a USB-A port on the Matebook X, not on the Dell. I would give slight edge to Matebook X. But that's my opinion. Either way you can't go wrong.
@BigLJR6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Marc David regarding this whole thing about the TB3 port on the Matebook X pro being only 2 lanes, does any of that matter for a non-gamer? The most I'd do is connect to a monitor. What drawbacks would there be for an average user being limited to 2 lanes opposed to 4 lanes on the XPS 13?

Many reviewers claim that it is a fantastic laptop, but I don’t think they can have a true user experience since they constantly change laptops. On you tube and reddit there a many complaints about the trackpad. They say that it isn’t great and lacks precision. Also, on some units it rattles. The other complaints are about the fan, temperature, sound distortion on the left speaker and a problem with the headphone jack.

@john doe They copy the MacBook pro cooling system. It is a very good laptop, but with my experience with this size of laptops with mx150, when you push them you see drop in performance (or limited preference in advance to prevent it). Try using MacBook pro 2018 13" with handbrake, it's in different leave from all other 13"laptops and that is why I switched my 2017 model for 2018. I actually don't like Mac os, but I couldn't find the same size laptop that can edit 10-20 4k (100-400 Mbps) comfortably as the MacBook pro (all thanks the fcpx). If not for that, I could be very happy with the Matebook x pro, I just love it's screen.

Reviewing a Huawei laptop while playing a test video of Samsung on it?! How much money did Samsung pay you for that?

Battery should be 9/10

I debated this one. 8 to me is fair because under my new rating system: A score of 8-10 hours is = 8, 10-12 = 9 and 12+ = 10. In real world usage this is 8-9 hours. An example of a 10 would be HP Envy x2.

Which Xiaomi Notebook? If you are referring to the 13-in model I would have to disagree.

@@andrewmarcdavid Xiaomi Notebook pro the i7 version. I've seen a lot of reviews about it. The battery alone can last upto 10 hours in synthetic battery test. The performance is not too shabby pro. And the speaker sounded really good with altec lansing.
