Got mine yesterday and truly happy with the camera! Shot over 100 photos in 24 hours from Light streaks, waterfalls, mountains, portrait, and fall foliage. In the last year I have owned the Mate 10 Pro, HTC U11 +, Pixel 2 and XZ2 Compact. This beats them all in my opinion. Love the battery, screen, EMUI is no problem and the many different modes to shoot in but especially the 3X zoom!!. I am no fan favorite of any phone but an truly happy with this phone. Too bad the USA doesn't accept them with open arms. If anyone says anything about Spying all I can say is Alexa, Google, Facebook, Samsung, etc.....Enough said

Yes Huawei uses some type of AI plus AI 4D predictive focus to capture quick motion as well, shots of moving objects are pin sharp. This phone+the AI components really are revolutionary.

JZ VR 4D Predictive Focus is a Sony technology, not from Huawei, and isn't a AI, and we does not need an AI to recognize scenes. As far as we know, it does not always work well, unless the Mate10's AI is dumb.

Huawei's camera app is definitely feature overload, but it's one of the things I actually liked in my Mate 9. The average user would miss out on it's capabilities by sticking with auto mode, but when you figure out how to manipulate the myriad of settings it really pays off.

Nobody would be my guess. When you release a new product, a competitor will always come along with something new and potentially better eventually. That's just how progress works. By your logic, people would have lost their job at Huawei when Apple released the iPhone X, that was superior to any offering of Huawei at that moment. That makes no sense. What they did instead is focus on improving their phone with this being the result. If anything, Apple should not be firing people but actually hiring people to further improve their phones.

mohammed nihal rehman, its because lighting of Eiffel Tower 🗼 is protected under copyright - ip protection law. You can shoot Eiffel Tower at night with its lighting but with proper permission (by paying fee).

One drawback with Pro mode. You have control over the ISO and shutter speed plus other settings, but you CANNOT set the aperture. In Pro mode, it's a default aperture only. Being a photographer myself, I find this a really quite bizarre oversight and rather annoying. On my DSLR's and wilth film also, I like to sometimes shoot at around 1/30 to 1/60 sec for deliberate camera movement and on a fairly high ISO to increase grain. Trying this on Pro mode, the shot is typically blasted out completely because the single aperture setting is fairly wide; something like f1.8 (without checking I can't remember but it IS wide). Aperture on the P20 Pro is a stand-alone setting on it's own, and cannot be set then maintained if you switch to Pro mode. I spoke to a technician today and I'm not the first to bring this up. However, the good news is that I was told that Huawei may be bringing out an update to rectify this issue. When or if that happens I don't know, but I think Huawei are listening to their customers. An aperture control actually within Pro mode would be the icing on the cake.

Honestly though, I still carry around my mirrorless camera especially when I travel. It really does in any smartphone. The small moments I don't mind the JPEGs out of my phone, but for when I want proper photos, can't beat the larger sensors and actual glass.

Some say this phone's camera is just as good as a high end DSLR camera. Most professional photographers are already moving to the smartphone platform when it comes to wedding photography. I guess this is the end of the traditional camera era.

Phone cameras have come a long way, but high-end DSLRs still have much better low-light performance and flexibility in choice of lenses. With the bigger sensor you can get better shallow depth of field effects with a DSLR. Phones like this Huawei now imitate this effect with software tricks, but it's not flawless and only works for some instances, while not working at all in other instances. In addition I doubt many people hiring a professional photographer would expect them to come just with a smartphone. It wouldn't look very professional, and the results are not going to be on the same level either.

Not that much really. I don't want to be party popper but Lumia 1020 had 40 mpx back in the 2013 and Nokia 808 in early 2012, so you shouldn't count on getting more MPX in fewyears. You should expect some software tricks like this "AI" assistant or maybe hardware tricks which will speed up saving digital data about image from the lens - more full-res and full-quality pictures in less time.

you didn't get it. The effective 5x hybrid zoom(3x optical zoom + 2x Lossless zoom) photo is a complete Picture in itself, which can be further cropped with much more detail. You can think it like 5x Optical zoom, where details are preserved even after zooming. Whereas what you are saying is applicable to phones without any optical zoom capabilities, they rely only on digital zoom, where details are lost after zooming.

lemme give an example what i am trying to explain. we have 2 cameras A & B. A have 2x Optical zoom B don't have Optical zoom. Assume, You shoot PICS (from B) without zooming. You crop the original pic 50%(zooming the original image) to get your required subject. Now you shoot with A( with 2x optical zoom) and get the required subject in the original image of A. The major difference in A's image is YOU CAN ZOOM INTO IT further to get much better crop area(if you want). Regarding Physics thing, Optical zooming is not cropping. But the 2x Lossless zoom is technically cropping, but here's the twist, Lossless zooming is possible in P20 pro because of the ridiculously large camera sensor. P20 pro's camera size is 1/1.7 Inch(which is Huge) compared to 1/2.3 inch which is the best Sony/Samsung Sensors can offer. For Simplification this Camera sensor is 1.8 times bigger than the 1/2.3" ones. Thus it can capture a lot more detail, That is how Lossless Zoom is possible it combines 4 pixels into one super-pixel which helps in preserving detail. I know all about this, because Nokia released white papers on Pureview tech back in 2012 with the launch of 808-Pureview which still has the biggest camera phone sensor of all times(1/1.2 inch super huge sensor). To compare 808's camera sensor is still 2 times bigger than P20's camera sensor :P Damn Microsoft for ruining old Nokia's highly innovative camera department, and HMD just don't have the funds(till now) to get them back there. Damn this article is big :D sorry

Well, yea I did understand it correctly. It's cropping and it does lose detail. But you are just saying "it doesn't count because competitors use physically smaller sensors". I understand it "makes it easier to swallow", but in no way is it anything else than standard cropping. If you look at DSLR cameras the sensors are way, WAY larger than anything in a smart phone ever has existed. I mean they absolutely dwarf a phone sensor. Yet they still "only" have a 18 megapixel sensor for example. You would still never ever crop a DSLR photo if you can help it, because you start losing detail so fast. Not pixels, but actual detail. A physically smaller sensor has to have less detail. That's how sensors work and that's why bigger the sensor more expensive the camera.

latuman, yes you are absolutely correct about the DSLR's and their cropping stuff, but their Super High Optical Zoom counters that. The reason they keep the megapixel low is to get larger pixel size to get better quality images in any lightning condition. The above example i gave is only applicable to smartphones like P20 pro vs iPhone X etc, where iphones/other phones have smaller senor than it.

I dont get why people believe that a long exposure is always better. The long exposure is great for night photography but just for statics objects. If a want a pic of a moving subject or object the photo will be Inevitably blurred.

E. S. In night shot then just take normal long exposure with ais that make it still, eg. When you take long exposure you have to be very still, but Huawei make the stabilization so is easy to take
