Great comparison. For sure, with a logical mind, nobody is waiting for P30 Pro beating A6400. But it is fascinating to see how quickly the phone is catching up and how versatile a phone is becoming. This is not a comparison between a phone and a camera. It is the comparison between computing photography and traditional photography.
@zilun5 жыл бұрын
Phone cameras will never catch up with cameras because any innovation in smartphone camera, can also be applied to camera tech. Phone cameras did replace compacts of yesteryears because those compacts had the same sensor size and lens as modern smartphones. First full frame digital was Contax N, and it needed medium-format sized lens because a huge border area captured that used to be usable for film, would be unusable for sensors. Now, Sony's full frame RX1 is just ridiculously tiny. When smartphone cameras can deliver image quality as good as today's 1" sensor like Nikon 1, 1" sensor compacts will be able to deliver image quality of today's APS-C sensors; when smartphone cameras can deliver image quality as good as today's M4/3 sensor, M4/3 cameras will be able to deliver images quality equal to today's full frame cameras, when Huawei P30MkXII Pro can be as good as Sony A6400, Sony would be producing A6400MkXII that has image quality that rivals Hasselblad X1d of today, and so on. I really don't understand all these videos comparing smartphone cameras to expensive great cameras. Even GoPro RAW's output is miles ahead of any smartphone camera in terms of image quality, and no one is even doing, "GoPro vs Sony A6400 w/ Zeiss Touit 12mm".

@@zilun Budget, Huawei spent 13 billion+ USD in R&D last year, Apple spent 10 billion+, not even Sony can come close which is why they make the best sensors but their phone cameras suck compared to the competition, never mind Fuji processing power is another factor, now SOCs are getting more complex with dual NPUs and such none of those companies will be able to compete.
@zilun5 жыл бұрын
@@jzvr5842 Yeah, no shit. Apple is known to have extremely low R&D when compared to its industry peers. Because Apple streamline and axe projects very early on to focus on only a few. For those same period, Google spent $21.4billion, Amazon $23billion, Microsoft $15billion, and so on. As Google founders claimed Steve Jobs said to them when they asked for his advice ( long after their relationship already fell apart ), Jobs told them Google is just shooting darts to see which ones stick and not really thinking about what to focus on. Maybe that's why Huawei is spending more, like Microsoft used to be and Google is now because they can afford to R&D anything they can get their hands on, and nothing to do with photography tech? Huawei also makes servers, communication towers. Is Huawei's R&D $$ into 5G helping better photography? There are many people who will claim Sony's ZX2 premium's low light photography is still the best in smartphone. But all those still aren't the point. What technical hurdle is stopping Leica asking Huawei to put that algorithm into Leica's point and shoot? There is none. My point was smartphone photography won't catch up with cameras because camera tech is moving too. You think there'll come a day when smartphone figure out how to squeeze 80 megapixel into 1/2.5" sensors, while camera makers goes, "Shit, we need to figure out how to squeeze 80 megapixel into our APSC-size sensor to compete with phone"?

That's very specific :) the p30 would probably win since the stabilizer of the Sony sucks and for lowlight you mostly use a tripod with cameras... but for better lowlight with a camera, you would have to buy a Sony FF for example which would beat the p30 easily... bit it has it's cost...

Smartphone software is doing it for you, while mirrorless or dslr give it to the photographer. You do not use auto mode in mirrorless if you are photog - use RAW for photo or S-Log for video then process it. Your comparison is useless.

@MikedieONE5 жыл бұрын
@@doxman13 "dude, there is promode or raw in Smartphone too" sure.. my old digicam could pull out RAWS as well. but they are limited by the tiny sensors. its a matter of physics. Raws are basically useless from a smartphone. The only thing they can do to improve image quality on a smartphone is the AI software. that basically automatically edits photos for you. They do multiple exposures and merge them together to get more dynamic range or reduce noise in low light. coz a single exposure from the tiny smartphone sensor can't handle it. a single exposure of a bigger camera sensor CAN! THATS the difference.

Thing is a decent dslr or compact zoom is cheaper. A p30 Pro is great in that you can do the phone and camera thing. But although close, close isn't as good. So I'd rather just have a phone that takes good photo's and a separate camera for the same money. Cos medium to long range the dedicated camera is just better, even a £300 one. 60x zoom on my camera isn't compareable with the Sahara desert haze pics using digital zoom of the p30 Pro.
@MadBlazer895 жыл бұрын
I still don't understand what's the point of comparisons like these. In broad daylight of course there won't be any major differences, heck even a 12 yo camera will do a fantastic job. For proper photography you need big sensors with good dynamic range, you need a proper autofocus system, you need good lenses with different focal lenghts and apertures macro etc, lighting is a must, filters like ND and polarizing for proper landscapes etc,. If all you do is take snapshots on the streets in broad daylight of static subjects, than yes, smartphone will do just fine. Otherwise let's not kid ourselves.

Huawei P30 is the best camera phone you can find, but if you see what detail you can pull off from Sony a6400 raw. There is no comparison. not even close. In this review, you see a very processed picture vs unedited one. The dynamic range of an aps-c sensor is beyond the capabilities of huawei P30. Don't fool your self.
@jzvr58425 жыл бұрын
P30 Pro did way better with dynamic range in the statue pic though. This is where the benefit of computational photography comes in.

@@jzvr5842 If you decrease the highlights and up the shadows in a raw pic from the a6400, it beats the p30 with ez. And this doesn't take long and can also be done with a phone... it's just way better when u edit the raws of the 6400 since that's why you buy a camera like this ;)

I'm a hardcore DSLR user and I take some really high quality photographs under tricky situations, which is impossible to take with a tiny sensor and lens. But I have to admit that this phone is really good. Good enough for viewing photographs with a display smaller than 6-7 inches. Display the snap in a bigger screen or Zoom it any further, the flaws are pretty evident. Smartphones are catching up really fast. But I believe that even the DSLRs/mirrorless will catch-up with better technology once they introduce AI and faster processors. But as I always say, no amount of software can beat a bigger sensor + lens combination

Pure Music yes but this is obviously because of the powerful stabilization software and the good CPU. Cameras aren’t that software based. but can the Sony make a phone call, send a text, access the internet etc? And all for the price of a lens which still would need a body. Concerning the portrait images, if you like blown out highlights, choose the Sony but o/w the Pro 30 produced a better overall image even if a bit on the warm side which is something most people prefer. Few pro photographers also would do portraits with direct sunlight creating the highlights whereas the Pro looks for open shade and uses subtractive lighting to create a nice well lit image.
@elbanaag93555 жыл бұрын
phlotographer phone is much expensive in long run. every after 2yrs you will change phone. on camera not. just need to buy few lenses needed. put a good prime lens and shoot in lowlight with freezing fast motions. and you will see how cameras will leave phones to dust.. aside from that, add strobes, flashes which phones losses massively... without flashes, shoot raw and see how highlights and shadow recovery is much much better than a phone.
