The 10k is a light load for the power supply. I don't like to run switching supplies with no load. It is probably not needed. The link connects the slot detect 1 and slot detect 2 pins to the output negative. This is needed to enable the power supply. See the beyondlogic.org review-huawei-r4850g2-power-supply-53-5vdc-3kw

Thanks for a helpful video. Any idea why I can't get the startup voltage setting to stick? I get an ACK packet with a 0x21 error indication when I send the 01 01 frame. I can set the voltage while it is running just fine and it returns to default in 60 seconds, as expected.

i would love to know if you can monitor the real time current draw over Canbus? I'm thinking about charging batteries and being able to kill the PSU when current draw drops below say 1 Amp, meaning batteries are fully charged.

Unfortunately they cannot give me any Information about can Bus address and values. I expect the same settings as with your device but i am not sure about it. Could you give me hints where to get this Information. Huawei here in Germany is Not willing to help.

Is it possible to use CAN bus to reduce the fan speed and set that as default on power up? I want to use this supply for LDMOS RF amp like you amplifier that only needs 1200W so the fan could run slower and quieter. If speed can't be controlled by CAN do you know if I could add resistors in series with the fan or will the supply detect low rpm and shut down?

Good question about the fan speed. I honestly don't know the answer to that. Also, it may be that the fan has feedback to the drive circuit so I'm not sure resistors would work. I know this is the case with many server power supplies.

Found and installed the software on my computer. Copied/added both the default & max voltage frames exactly how you have them(thank you!)! Located a decimal to hex converter calculator to convert minimum voltage of 41.5V. Following your lead (hex = a55a=41.5V) Wondering if a macro of some sort could be used to set on the fly voltage and current without manually sending every minute? Any idea if these frames/code would work on any other Huawei power supplies, and have you discovered any other functions? ((Thanks again for sharing information! PS - I just ran/opened com port for kicks in the App without hardware and of course rec'd an error message, but the error message was in Chinese so totally indecipherable and useless -are all error messages in Chinese?

To answer my own question, apparently CAN implementations are different for different devices and manufacturers, the easiest most certain way for you to get this information would be to contact the manufacturer. There are some web references such as this one, but they seam to be few and far between.

I've seen modified versions on AliExpress that go up to 98v. Any idea how that modification has been done? Would it be possible via CAN BUS requests?

Im also searching for this solution. I believe one of the resistors (22k) has been replaced with a potmeter and a resistor in series to achieve 22k in the middle of the range of the pot meter. But the exact resistor i dont know yet. Im planning to buy one from ali, huawei 4875 version and take it apart, if i can find the way they did i will report it to you.

hi ian looks like you only have a few options for voltage ...using the can buss to usb adaptor can i chane the voltage and amps down and have them stay there?..i read in coments you answer lowest voltage is 41.5..but im not sure if it will stay at chosen lowest voltage or amps..did you make that short menue or is that standard and is there more to the menue?..can you scroll down for more options?

I think the values are limited to 41.5 to 58.5 active mode and 48.0 to 58.5 for setting default boot. So if you want to sustain an active mode voltage without making it default, you have to continuously send the command as demonstrated in the video. When you say menu I think you are looking at the commands I entered manually. You will need to refer to the power supply protocol to create your own commands.

Yes you can. You use CAN to set a default startup voltage. You no longer need CAN if that is the voltage you will always use. I covered this in the video.

If my calculations are right 108180FE;01 03 00 00 00 00 01 2C should set a 10A limit. Last 2 bytes 01 2C = Decimal 300 Current limit is 30 x A. hence 30 x 10A=300. 300 in hex is 01 2C (for default boot current first 2 bytes are 01 04)

How did you connect a resistor? If we don't connect a resistor what is the difference? I didn't connect a resistor and my psu is working perfectly, but the problem is lower voltage 53.5v, I use it to charge my ups batteries of 48v system, I need 58.4v to charge what should I do for it

@@johnkalouris8835 50X1020=51000, 51000 in hex=C7 38 so default voltage of 50 would be 01 01 00 00 00 00 C7 38 also on the fly change to 50 would be 01 00 00 00 00 00 C7 38 start with decimal value, then enter dec value in calculator in programmer mode. HEX can be read. Or you can do the conversion yourself. HEX c7 38 12*16^3=49152, 7*16^2=1792, 3*16=48, 8*1=8 so 49152+1792+48+8=51000, and 51000/1020=50volts

@@lanierje Did your R4850G2 become very hot when turned on without a load on the output? Mine do, and I am pretty sure it's not supposed to happen. I just want to be certain it isn't some weird supply pumping, or inductance dumping that causes energy to be converted to heat. The supplies are very expensive now, so I would prefer not to have to buy a new one...

@@marcelbenhur6230 Be sure slot detect pins are connected to neg. Also need some load on dc output. It can be a light load of 10k or so for testing.
