These guys have helped me improve so much. The way you explain things has been exactly what I’ve needed. I’ve found maybe two accounts so far on KZbin who only explain this well. Going to be able to break 80 in the next few weeks with practice and than hopefully par soon after. All I was missing was the correct explanation. You hear everyone say straight back and straight forward but it’s so much more than that. I’ve never had such a beautiful draw on all my shots before throughout my whole bag. More excited than ever to play the game. Keep em comings

I found you through Milo’s videos and love both channels. You both have a similar philosophy regarding the swing, but have a different way of explaining the same things (both ways are great and compliment each other). Since I have a background in kinesiology and physical therapy, I love the description from that standpoint which you provide. I’ve had a difficult time with previous “in person” lessons because I couldn’t grasp concepts the way they were explaining them. I was told that I was “thinking too much” about the wrong things (because I kept asking about things from a kinesiology standpoint). I was super frustrated until I found y’all and Milo. I even went back and discussed this with my former pro/teacher so he would be better prepared to deal with someone like me in the future. I’m also recommending your channel to my friends. Thanks again and I look forward to new content. Would love to receive personalized instruction in the future but can’t swing it at this time (see what I did there 🤣).

Fantastic! Understanding this solved the issue I have had with the club slightly steepening in the downswing.. I have tried all kinds of things to try and shallow the club and nothing has worked for me at speed.. This hub/mass concept and the thought of the hub moving out in transition made the slight change I needed - Club head now falling down into a great position behind the hands. Thank you

Three trips to the range using this information and killing it. Alas, played nine holes and the sweetness from the range turned bitter. I concluded, on the course I reverted back to old habits. For me, in order for your lesson to work I feel I need to hold the shoulders in check for a fraction longer in transition.

After watching this video again , I’ve picked up on the hub path and center of mass. I think I was guilty of the hub and center of mass in transition pointing at the target . Now I understand the hub would be almost a 45% angle between ball and target with center mass behind you . Almost like a slingshot motion with the chest rotation . Just need to work on this and my hands hub coming around my body , not straight towards the target . Thank you for the amazing detail with all your videos … Greatly appreciated !

I think the “hands out in transition” is very consistent with the “hip flexion and thoracic bend” move you guys teach in transition as well. It’s all part of the proper body movements to support a more rotational swing. Great stuff! Thanks for sharing 👊👊.

You two guys are a breath of fresh air in what is now a world of confusing, contradicting instruction. For years I've been advise to bring my hands close to my target side pocket on the way through impact. This lesson today has 'blown a hole' in that bad advice. When I think about it 'keeping the hands close to the body through the impact zone' only encourages the dreaded 'roll-over of the hands'. I enjoy your method of teaching....every aspect of your instruction is substantiated with excellent logic (and non patronizing humor!).

I really like your approach to coaching the golf swing. I have been trying to alter my swing for 3 years trying to change from my inside to out club head path, closed club face at impact, early extended, early flip swing with right to left ball flight (right handed). Based on your videos, I am able to keep my elbows in front of my torso in the backswing and in transition with the “hub” moving out and the “center of mass” moving back and down. However, when I do this and my hands move further out, my club head path travels further out resulting in a shank. To be clear, I don’t consciously move the hub out and mass back. They move there as a result of the body and arm movements you describe. I would love to have explained what needs to happen once I get to p5 and beyond to impact with my hub further out in order to correctly complete the system and make pure contact? So the bottom line is: I can comfortably perform the body and arm positions you describe in this video and I agree that this is what I need to do in order to improve my swing. However, there seems to be something that I’m missing. If you would address this I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Thank you very much for responding. Have you made a video that would help me understand COM of the ribs staying away that you would recommended I watch? I’ve been thinking about this a lot this year! It’s great you’re hitting in this and that you don’t even touch on it on broadcasts when showing paths. They focus on the club head and the only way you can get your club head in the right spot is to think about your hands! Have you ever done any research or drills with the focus being where the handle is pointing throughout swing? I’ve found focusing on where the handle is pointing gives me the best “feel” to get the club head in the right place throughout the whole swing.

Just from a visual perspective, and I know momentum and forces are absent from the drills, what happens exactly from the top of the swing down to the ball? Visually, it looks like the "hub" can't get down to the hitting area in time for the strike. I'd love to see an explanation of how this happens! Love your videos! Keep up the good work!

I appreciate the explanation. This feeling is what helped me with the driver and long irons. The compression off the fairway woods and long irons is great and even better with short irons. I am feeling more rotation than ever with some lateral movement that is more automatic, I tended to stay on my back foot. Biggest change was moving my trail hand more on top and not underneath. The stronger grip was fine with the woods and driver but proved more difficult with the irons especially the wedges. My lead hand is 2.5 to three knuckles with my trail hand on the side slightly on top. I feel the bounce working with all my irons with shallow divots, rare fat shots with the thin to win still getting to the green or close. Now if I can just get to working the ball when I need a fade. Draw is now a baby draw or a slight push to the right. Thanks for the amazing content!

@@elitegolfschools Question. I would like to know if my slightly stronger trail hand with the driver, more on the side not on top seems to benefit me more with the woods and driver. With the irons I find that trail hand is better more on top. Is this reasonable ? When I put my hand on the side with the irons the shot is thin or I will pull draw it. Thoughts?

As someone who's main fault is early extension, this makes so much sense. I've been trying to get my path in to out with my hands but get stuck and the only way to hit the ball is by early extending. I will definitely be working on my hub path vs club path! Keep up the great work guys!

This video blew my mind. I've had to watch it like 3x. So, I still want that "inside loop" but with the club center of mass, not the hands. The hands actually work a counterclockwise motion which (equal and opposite) causes the club to move clockwise. I always found I struck the ball better with the motion you show here and thought I was way over the top (even though I was rarely hitting slices). So, my takeaway is hands work in and up which gets you steep going back, to then the hands work out and down which shallows the club down.

Love your videos! Things i’ve never thought about. I do get confused about the initial hub movement- always beed told it drops but this video i thought i heard it moves out toward ball?

Became an instant subscriber, your approach to these videos is great! Would love to see an in-depth video on the release, especially the wrist/forearm movements (flexion/extension, radial/ulnar, and pronation/supination). My current white whale is letting the radial out and getting proper ulnar deviation by impact, just cannot figure it out!

Hi Riley and TJ! Creating the hip depth and keeping the hub path out in front has helped with my short irons tremendously. When I move up to my mid irons though (5-7), my shots get very inconsistent. I end up hitting the ground super early or hitting super fat (especially with my 5). I know it’s tough without seeing my swing/what I’m actually doing, but any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong? Appreciate y’all and really enjoying this video series!

Fascinating video. Many years ago an old golf instructor told me that Hogan's hand path went out in the downswing. I thought he was out of his mind because that was an over the top move....and Hogan was NOT over the top to my eyes.. Guess the old guy was ahead of his time. Really enjoying the journey with you gentlemen.

TJ and Riley are amazing. If you have not gotten a lesson, online or otherwise from these group of guys you are selling your golf game short. Extremely Professional and a Little Golf Quirky Nerdy. But that is why these guys are great! If either of you are ever in Virginia you can stay at my place! Please keep up the videos!

Great content, as far as the Hub controls club center of mass from over to under is it OK to passively do that with intent of the hands. Years past always been a strong right hand control (Hitter), never free flowing wrists. Then moved to free flow wrists but questionable position at top i.e. no contol. Following your video I tried passive contol of the hub which seems to improve everything, although early days yet.

I have been really working hard at changing my swing and it's coming around nicely. One thing I am still struggling with is lowering my launch angle with my irons. I am thinking it's because I am using vertical force too early, would love to see a video that covers linear, roational and vertical forces in the golf swing. Nice work on the channel 👊👊👊.

Love the videos you guys are putting out. Would love to know how you decide what is too far "out" for the hands. I can get the center of mass of the club to fall back, but not really getting the strikes as it just feel really backed up and under through impact.
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools Жыл бұрын
All depends on personal matchups for the player. If your hands are going to go “out” a lot, you’d better be able to drop the COM of the club under the plane at the same time 👍🏼

This is really awesome, and thanks for this content. This topic has been on my mind for quite some time. If the hand path moves forward, wouldn't you need to have crazy amount of right side bend to compensate for the hand path being that far out in front of you to get the club to be on the path to hit the ball?
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools Жыл бұрын
A combination of flexion in the hips and right side bend, but really not as crazy as you might think

Great discussion and explanation. Curious? Is left shoulder motion ( oar motion) critical to keeping hands low going back so to not disrupt arc motion - Seem I’m part of a pattern that in attempt to swing back the hands move up sooner than your motions and those of preferred like Hovland. Hovland’s hands just past right leg are just about mid thigh and shaft still parallel ( with driver). As opposed to seeing earlier set and grip already arching up at this same point or even earlier?

Amazing videos guys - super helpful. Quick question: If you get your hands and HUB out on the downswing and COM behind, does right side bend help facilitate a fuller chest rotation through, by giving more room for the right elbow (RH golfer) to pass through the impact zone?
@elitegolfschools

Yes, right lateral bend is a big piece to this puzzle 🧩

I'm confident to say that for so many of us that learned to golf in the 90s and early 2k's, 4:37 is the magic moment learning what happens with the right elbow staying in front and across the chest during impact. I know I had a couple lightbulbs go off.

Sometimes! Hovland likes to fade it - but it doesn’t mean you have to. Just slightly different matchups for draw

In this video and the short that Riley does on how to stop hooking the ball you make the comment that the hub goes "radically left" to send the clubhead out and through the ball. I think this idea and the mechanics that make it happen would be a robust topic for a video. I have enjoyed your videos so much that I scheduled in-person lessons with Riley for later this month. Thanks again for all the great coaching.

I’m loving your instruction! You guys are especially good at describing the biomechanics. Any suggestions about how to make the transition to flexion-rotation after many years of extending-throwing? Is there room for incremental change from the one recipe to the other, or is it just one giant leap?
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools Жыл бұрын
Definitely room for incremental change! We view it as a spectrum, in which you slide over to the flexion rotation side over time as you train 🙏

@@elitegolfschools Thank you! I'll stay the course. It's rough tho. Any suggestions for where to focus the most attention/energy to shorten the learning curve? I'm thinking your med ball suggestions (and Kendal Yonomoto's book) might be a high yield approach. (It's moving from slo mo to full speed that's giving me the most trouble). Thanks again! Keep up the good work!
