Keep an eye out for interesting shapes in the recycle bin, take a closer look at some of those plastic packaging items and try to imagine them as part of a larger kit bashing project. In this video I take a Hubba Bubba plastic packet and through use of super glue and the bits box, turn it into an ash wastes walker vehicle with a 40k theme. The whole process of the kit bash is covered and hopefully this might inspire you to try the same.

Dude this looks really cool. Who would have thought. Hubba Bubba. 😂. I have definitely gotta try this. That's for the video.

I’m glad you think the model turned out ok, thanks for checking it out. Yeah I’m sure Hubba Bubba is an ideal name for an Ash Wastes Nomad type character that would pilot this thing!

So lovely, and you didn't go nuts with rivets in spite of it being WH40K. I admire your self-control, sir. Having found this video long after you finished this model, my "suggestion" here is pretty useless - but it would have actually made sense to deploy the two tarps in opposition to one another. Almost everything else on the walker looks like it's what it is, where it is, because it serves an understandable purpose. When you added the rolled-up tarps, I immediately knew what they were for. This vehicle was put together to allow its operator to venture out into the wastes on a mechanical steed with a better view and none of the fragility of a normal helamite rider. Outside of living dangers, the Ash Walker will need to work as shelter for its rider on longer trips. This is easily accomplished - just have the walker go into "hunker down" mode and look! Some genius put canvas tarps right where you can reach them to make tent walls! So, what's my problem then, right? Putting all tarps on one side makes for a good lean-to design, without a doubt. But, if the danger is anything like a sandstorm on Terra or Mars, a lean-to will not protect the rider, or the mechanical systems of the walker, well enough. Wind will just blow the tarp free and the grit of the wastes will get into everything, meaning the rider's next-of-kin will have a heavy maintenance bill to pay in order to salvage their unlucky relative's estate.

Thanks for the comment - yeah I I think that the main body could have benefited from having a seam added around the circumference (to indicate a weld between two halves) and maybe some more rivets here and there but as you say its about some self control to stop adding things... For the tarps, yeah I like the idea of the owner pulling the tarps out in-situ from the walker and sleeping under or next to it. I did think about adding more of a roll cage over the top, to help protect the seat and controls and the roll cage could then have acted as a frame for the tarps to go over and become a tent on top of the unit.

@@CaptainSkyhawkHobbies " I I think that the main body could have benefited from having a seam added around the circumference (to indicate a weld between two halves)" Oh god, I think you are my favorite kitbasher on Earth now. I mean, you already had my respect for using bicarb and CA glue to join parts with dodgy welds - but understanding how modern designs use welding and applying that to kitbashed structures (as well as hex nuts!) _has_ to be some kind of superpower.

The parts where you're cutting toward your thumb made me tense up, purely due to the number of times I've done the same and ended up injuring myself 😰 The model looks great though, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for watching the video, and yes the bit where I was trying to remove the red hinge from the packaging was tricky but I did stop filming and flip it to remove it fully. Not a fan of that shot myself!

Excellent scratchbuild sir and a very watchable video - expect GW to be nicking this idea in due course! There is, however, one question the video does not answer - HOW BIG A BUBBLE DID YOU MANAGE TO BLOW??? 😊
@CaptainSkyhawkHobbies
@CaptainSkyhawkHobbies Ай бұрын
😂 yeah when I saw the packet I knew I wanted to make it into something but I didn’t want to simply throw out the bubblegum so I did work my way though the lot of it over a week or two before getting started with it. Yes, plenty of bubbles were blown and popped! I prefer the sugar free stuff though… Thanks for watching the vid.

Thanks, well for the paints I used Vallejo Model Air through the airbrush, then some standard Citadel paints with the brush, and for the enamel washes I used AK Interactive panel liners. The brushes I use are from Rosemary & Co mainly.
