For me, it's more about the quality of the connection than just seeing people. I saw people every day at work, but because they weren't "my people," it didn't hit the same. I still felt alone and isolated. I needed a closer connection.

I was kind of stuck at home, not knowing anyone at the new place I moved to. Isolated living in the mountains. Many mountain people are not overly social. I finally decided to go to a church, because I was desperate to meet and talk to people. I’m not a church-going person. But the one I found just a few miles from my home is good. I joined different groups, went to 2 different bible studies per week. I love being around people. Being alone at home was getting me extremely depressed. Now I’m fine because I get to see and interact with people face to face and via text messages.

Strangely I feel social when I’m abroad , I feel so free, unafraid, follow the sound of church bells, or drift toward a leafy square, pat a stranger’s dog ( with permission)or catch the scent of hot bread in the air and wind up at a bakery people watching ! Buoys my spirits! Back home, I’m in majestic isolation it’s hard being crazy 😂

Just because I’m alone doesn’t mean I’m lonely! 2024 was a year of cleansing and that meant getting rid of people that no longer “deserved” to be in my life (it was a much difficult decision but it was truly liberating). I choose to be in healthcare to help others and be around people who were lonely, however choosing to be with the people you want to be with is more important than you have to be with. Thanks for covering this topic!

The keys to happiness: 1. Get off your damn phone. 2. See Step 1.

Anyone who has ever attempted a long distance relationship knows that virtual communication, even by video chat is extremely frustrating & unfulfilling... It feels like Takeaway to the Soul. Initially it tastes good, but afterwards you wanna push it away because it just dosen't feel good for your Body. You feel sick after a prolonged period of consumption & if one person refuses to take the relationship into real life, it's over. The body, heart & soul can't live off junk food connection.

That is 100% true, whenever I go about my week without having much in person interaction I feel something off in my brain, its like somethings telling you to go out, that lonely feeling

I needed to see this. I moved across the country at age 67 and only have my husband’s company. I need to be with people in active places. He’s happy to stay home and read. He’s not fun to “hang out with doing nothing out and about” so it feels like I’m forcing him to accompany me. I do go out alone and feel better but I am just existing without purpose beyond seeking energy of others. Don’t know if that’s wrong but it’s the only thing I can think of to attempt to connect.

@CarolJoyable That's deep. What would be your advice for me or any younger person struggling with loneliness?
@CarolJoyableКүн бұрын
@ Well I’m no one to give advice but o can offer a couple of suggestions. First, connect with a church or other place of workshop and attend and talk to people. If there is a group to join, join. The next would be to volunteer at any place that needs volunteers and that you would be pleased to be associated with. If you do something that makes you feel good, you will feel better. And finally, walk everyday. It’s good for body and mind. God bless you.

The builders of this nation forgot community building, this won’t be good in the long term, as it’s already reflecting currently. We got to be involved in our communities and build from there little by little.

The eastern mystics figured this out a long time ago. Western mind doesn’t think this way and in fact our culture is anxiety based .
