No computers, only mechanicals. It demands a bit of skill from the driver in order not to fry the resistor box, but otherwise is reliable because of its simplicity. Absolutely marvellous. Thank you for this video Ian.

I love the engineering on this. It's sturdy and built to last more than a lifetime. About 15ish years ago, I worked on a monorail in the States. It was a completely different system, running on pneumatic tires and had a hydraulic drive system. "very temperamental".

I grew up near Beaulieu and my Grandmother was fiends with Lady Montagu, I spent a lot of time there as a child and rode the monorail many times when it was quite new. I have since taken my children there and ridden that monorail with them. Amazing to get to see behind the scenes in this wonderful place that I hold so dear. Thank you for this video.

Nice one Ian. After decades away from the old family holidays on the south coast We popped over a couple of months ago to Beaulieu to revisit those sites that we last saw as children. Oh my it brought back memories. I think the monorail was in the early build state back then but it was a great day out. The monorail was running in October but didn't have many passengers as it was tipping it down with rain at the time. Although we didn't use the train I highly recommend the motor museum. The site is so much more than the museum as well. Many thanks for sharing the experience of driving the monorail, I envy you to the point I resemble the green colour of the carriages.

Hi Connor. Today, Bolton, Greater Manchester (Historic Lancashire) the rain fell so hard it was unbelievable and tomorrow, Friday is going to be worse. Good fun though 😂 I went out in my car and drove up into the local high roads, over the tops we say locally 😊. It was absolutely throwing it down, low cloud and fog. All the exentric Boltonian Brits were out walking their dogs 😂. Drenched when I got home 😂. My Polish neighbour phoned me and said Fng 'ell the fkn rain and wind 😂. Got to laugh 😂 it's British weather and I love it ❤.

I can honestly say I didn't know much about monorails until I watched this video. 🤔👍 I've never been on one, let alone seen one to my knowledge. I know they will be very safe to travel on, but I don't like the feeling that you're very high up when you're travelling, & I like to have my feet firmly on the group, so for that reason it wouldn't appeal to me, but it would still appeal to a lot of passengers though. This is a great informative video from yourself.👍👌👏👏

I guess the "museum" dilemma is whilst changed to a electronic controller would make it smoother, efficienct and less toasty for the driver, it's a nice piece of living history to see how early ev's did motor control :-)
