I just received mine last week. The charger that came with mine looks the same but is 1200mah. It also came with a spare motor which I thought was strange. The charger came with an EU plug, but I had a 12v plug from a trail cam which works fine. I love this drone. Thanks for the review

Mine arrived an hour ago. You will need a very fine Phillips screwdriver, for the controller battery door and that's about all. First impression is, it's well made, very solid and all parts are there. I did not get any tool kit with mine and the batteries need some charging.

6:50 you can calibrate the compass indoors or outdoors. Doesn't have to have GPS to do this.

How long do batteries last in the transmitter buddy? Im a newbie and bought H501S standard other year and she fell from the sky with no warning at all. I assumed she would return to home if battery issues but all was good in drone and transmitter... By way, my basic 501 had rechargable battery in the transmitter as standard.

Great video mate love your warts and all presentation, too many youtube directors hide things by glossing it up too much Good to see the mode change is programable from 2 back to 1 for us silly senior RC aussie pilots ;-) Actually if I'm not mistaken I think the mode 1 originated from the UK correct ? Forward flight seems to have authority unlike other posts that have the 501 bouncing around the sky due to poor piloting skills or maybe just strong windy conditions? Cheers

I like it a lot and compared to the money of a Mavic Pro you could buy a few of these and still have change left. The Mavic Pro has a lot of features this doesn't but at that price you would expect them. Hi: I like how you go through the menus - haven't seen other reviews do that. Question.... I don't know if you have seen the standard transmitter, but some folks say the screen on the standard transmitter is larger. Did you find the FPV screen on the small side or was it adequate?

I've owned the advanced controller with the h501s for 6 months. Its my first time trying fpv. I love the controller on every way but the screen is definitely too small. Its good enough for telemetry data but as for keeping orientation and being aware of surroundings, details like branches and plants are impossible to see on the screen until you are too close, it doesn't inspire confidence flying near anything at all with that screen. I just bought a 7 inch 5.8g fpv screen for it to run on a try pod and so far id highly recommend doing something like that. Brings the already great flying quadcopter to a whole new level just by making better use of what the camera is actually seeing. I got the advanced controller originally because it's higher quality, longer range stock and modded, and doesn't have a toy grade plastic look, actually looks especially attractive. I cant say I regret my decision, but dang, I do have to throw out there the screen is too small.

For anyone wondering which to get between this and the bugs 2W, this is the clear answer. I own both and the bugs creeks as you grab it. It’s extremely light and feels much more toy grade compared to the 501S. The 501 feels heavier and much stronger. It was much stronger and way steadier in the wind as well. Never touched the firmware. Much better GPS hold. Stick with this one and don’t bother with the bugs!

Is there an option to sync the gyros,? I can find no information about it, and wondering how the drone accomplish this.Can you use a 32 gig sd card?,and what is the format used before you insert it. Oh it is nice :-) It's smaller than Tarantula, by my measurements, X6=345mm X4=210mm across motor diagonal, hope that makes sense. Funny when I got the Tarantula out it looks way bigger, weird :~)

Hi Toby, I haven't any experience with the standard so really can't compare, I'm really pleased with this and it must have advantages over standard otherwise them wouldn't make both ;-) I can easily spend other peoples money but it really is up to you what you want from your quad and how much you want to spend. if I had a definitive answer i would give it but not having them to fly side by side, I'm not able too. cheers

Great review. I'm just received my advance version with the same controller. The manual says to point 5.8 antenna vertically, with the Hubsan logo towards the quadcopter. My antenna naturally has the logo facing me when fully tightened. Is this correct, and wouldn't twisting it 180 degrees damage the antenna? The pictures in the manual is inconsistent in showing the antenna orientation. I see from your video that shows the 5.8 antenna bent down to face the quadcopter. Thanks.

It's a nice quad but I still like the Bugs 3 as you can strap loads of stuff(different battery, gimbal, camera etc) PDB got way to hot on Hubsan, for my liking. Lovely quad to fly, GPS and FPV really nice. I have not heard of SS version and mine still works fine on original firmware, just never got round to upgrading it. Hope that helps, cheers

This is a very nice drone, mine seems to have the worst jello on KZbin, but I review what I get, my mates one is good video. The quad is silky smooth to fly and one of my favourites. Keep meaning to do a video on this. I use PC so can't help if you run macs. WARNING THIS WILL REMOVE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR CARD!!! Put card in card reader, on PC, right button click to access card menu, go down to format, left button press "restore device defaults", click Format. This should sort it ;-) Good luck

I've been having the same problem ... seems to be hit-or-miss when it comes to video recording. Sometimes it works. Most of the time it displays a "Put throttle back" message on the screen. When it does record, it's 50/50 as to whether the videos will even play too, or if they are corrupted. Sigh! I have a Hubsan Desire that works fine.

Hello, I post this on every site that reviews, or even mentions, the ADVANCED version of the Hubsan h501s X4 Quad Copter. So, The ONLY noticeable differences are 1. A separate receiver antenna for the 5.8 Ghz video. 2. They have added 2 switches, instead of using the control stick switches for headless mode and follow me mode, these are now on separate switches. 3. They put on a sun shade. So, in conclusion, I can see NO ADVANCEMENT of this controller vs the other controller. It still has EXACTLY the same functions, just done differently. Also 2 totally useless knobs. I would call this a configuration change to the other controller, not an advanced controller. There is nothing advanced about it. Advanced to me would be maybe more features, not just the same features done differently. I think the best improvements in the configuration would maybe be the 'Extra' video receiver antenna and the sun shade. Other than that, nothing spectacular nor advanced. The most alarming so-called advanced feature (Of course, the most important one of the advanced features) would be the price difference! $229.00 vs $263.00. WOW! (To a lot of people, this is a lot of money) so much money for a configuration change. NOT AN ADVANCED MODEL!!! Still EXACTLY the same thing! AND, the copter itself has absolutely no changes! I certainly hope that this message helps a lot of people make an informed decision as to which one to buy. The 2 most important configuration changes (Extra antenna and Sun shade), IMHO, are definitely not worth the price difference. Just my 2 cents.

Which proves my point that I make in other statements about how these things all have had the same functions all of this time. Just that the manufacturer doesn't allow them to so they can "Sell" you a so-called upgraded version. Peace out!
