Great mod, just ordered the H502s waiting for it to get here in about 2 weeks. I plan on using it for aerial photography and that mod is just what I need. For extreme altitude photos with out paying DJI money.

I have a hubsan h501s myself and the altitude is capped dependent on firmware version. I am using firmware 1.1.17 and on a stock remote. I have taken it clear over 120m high and 300 meters distance using a stock remote (upgrade in the post), with the firmware i am using the altitude cap is around 220 meters. The hubsan in GPS mode calculates the safe return to home distance in relation to battery power, It will then stop and automatically return to home unless you force it not to. Your restriction is simply because the hubsan is calculating safe RTH. the reason your height was not reduced as much is because it requires far less battery power to descend then to travel along the horizontal. Hope that helps.

Carenza Archer I have both the 501s and the 501a the 501a is so much better it uses less battery power because it's all WiFi you get 25 minutes of flight time for every battery and I've gotten it out on mile-and-a-half distance and 500 M High but I enjoy the 501s because you can maneuver better with the joysticks the 501a you use Virtual joysticks on the tablet

That's honestly nothing. I have one and its completely stock. I've gone 468 meters away and about 100 meters in altitude. That was also in a neighborhood with allot of trees

Nice comment. *Also This is to the many who don't think things through much. * Flying too far out of sight without obstacle avoidance and much more is very neglectful to other people's safety and also kids if some don't care for adults, at least care for the kids who won't be able to realise something is falling from the sky as fast as maybe an adult would. _Wanna fly out of sight true fpv?_ Pay the high dji price and follow the law that comes with it or fly over water all the time, the hubsan is just about that cheap that we can trial it over some sea rather than over innocent lives heads. If your friend/public knew the drone ya flying had motors that could cause serious damage and that ya flying it out if sight also knowing the truth to the dangers then I don't think they would respect you much at all..

Over 1300 meter with 502s and 2500 with 501s. Antennes all out, also the quad antenna, 501s flew away over 2500 meter distance and did not return as or should. When out of range of should switch from altitude hold to gps and rth but or didnt, it jumpt to manual mode and didnt listen to commands anymore. Got new ones ordered including home made tuned antennes to der of i can smash the last distances

Thanks for showing that the 501 is total JUNK. I have one too, makes a great urinal! My Habsan Zino pro can go 4.35kM away and shot in 4K video with gambol stabilizer which gives back broadcast quality video (I know since they have used my video footage on TV and it looks great) and gambol pitchs too so I can look all around. I can do all this with the stock antenna and the Zino pro drone cost me only $120.00 more than your 501S ("S" for shit) Dude, sell it and get a ZINO PRO!!!!

you should flash 4.2.8 version. You may be have 4.2.13 - it has limitations for 400 feets (120 meters)

Just upgraded mine. August 2018. They have now begun hot gluing the SMA antenna connectors right to the receivers, along with hot gluing the antennas to the frame of the remote. Not a tragedy but extra care must be taken when removing the connection. The receiver boards aren't made of steel so simply ripping it off may permanently damage your remote so be careful! I haven't done a range test yet on my mods and the stock antennas seem to work fine on the unit's 250m height limit. I love taking pics at max height for effect. I've seen many vids on range tests and the key seems to be to keep line of sight and with this mod I've seen 2500m+ out!

Hello Andy. I love your videos. My girlfriend and I love you honesty and experience in the field. So it seems the kit didnt work. Seems the company lied about 200 meters and the kit didnt get you past 118 meters? Another KZbinr said he did an antenna mod that got him 2050 meters (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpbOYquwnN-ao9U). Thats more than 10x what Hubsan brags it can do. Please clarify why you only got 118 meters and this other man got 2050 meters and the company is bragging of 200 meters. Im so confused. Please give as much detail as you can spare. Thank you.

its not the kit thats the problem its a limitation of the firmware on the quadcopter. it seems the one i received is geofenced to 120 meters. you can update the firmware to have it go further

Thanks for getting back so fast. Could you show how to update the firmware to make it go further? Would you maybe do a video of that and show how far you can get it to go? This Habsan X4-H502S seems to really hit the sweet spot for price and features over almost all the quads out there. Im sure lots of us would appreciate you bringing this firmware update and this quad in general to the forefront. If a distance of 2050 meters is a reality we all really need to see it.

Interesting. I've flown my H502S out to 140 metres. The FPV broke up a bit, but it kept control just fine, and I turned it round and flew back again. I'll have to experiment with range and then upload a video at some point... When I say it flew out to 140 metres, I'm going by the distance stated on the FPV screen.

Mine hits a wall at around 110m horizontal, 115m vertical - with the external TX antennas. I'm on FW 1.1.28 and I see there is a 1.1.31 on RCGroups, but can't get any info on what's in the changelog so am a bit reluctant to try it!

My stock Hubsas 4x 501ss got 890 meters distance at 90 meters height in a neighborhood !! I keep pushing it .. I couldn't believe it myself., normally I get about 300 meters distance at about 60 meters hight ... I picked up a patch antenna but I not sure if it will do much better than stock.. I should have taken a pic of my telemetry because no-one's gonna believe me !!

Try using left stick as the ascend and descend rather than the right stick. The right stick is originally programmed to be throttle forwards backwards and left right yaw

No mod = as far as you can throw it. With mod = 78.1 miles

I have added the long range kit and I have flown out to 163 meters with no problems. Not sure what hight, i think it was close to 90 meters. For such a small camera the 720p is very good. I getting very close to 10 minute flights. I have also added a Turingy 7.2V 2000mAh li-po battery to the controller so the only limitation is the quads internal battery. Note: beyond 100 meters it gets very difficult to see the quadcopter.

My stock H501s s got 600m with stock everything over busy signal area near a reservoir. I have the antenna mod on order. I wonder if everything on yours was connected ok. Or perhaps it's a software thing? My drone came shipped with firmware version 2.1.23 and 1.1.36

It's interesting that Hubsan will admit that their products acn be improved and provide the parts to do it. I remember your notes on the Deviation forum on binding to the new Hubsans. I still have a Hubsan which doesn't work with any protocol (H001). I wonder whether this qualifies as a modified transmitter under BMFA rules?

It works with the 107d *but* installation is considerably more complicated and involves soldering and cutting the existing antenna trace on the transmitter pcb.

Hi Andy, Just to let you know I have taken mine up to 167 metres and out to 120 metres on the stock antennas. It was on my street so in an urban area with all the interference that goes with it. I had full control throughout and only the odd picture break up.

the only damage u will do to the transmitter not having the antennas on is the 2.4 control system. so if u can still control the quad then the antenna is not your issue

I have complete control in flight. no problem there. I changed the sd card to a fat 32 as they said in the operating manual. didn,t take video while in the air only in doors could that be why? going to try out side thanks andy

Sorry to see that you're draining your batteries below 7 volts for the two cells lipo , that means down to less than 3.5 volts for each cell. No wonder you were not having control over the quads at the end of the flights, and you were not able to fully charge the batteries. They're dying!

Hi Andy, I see the chequerboard wallpaper and can't wait to see your latest. You have taught me loads! I see you can get the H501s with the Hubsan FPV1 transmitter now. I think it looks great but the screen is a little smaller than the standard tx. Which do you prefer? ive seen a few complaints about the cheap feel of the standard tx. Your mega tx with the wifi booster is sick!

from what i've figured out, it all depends on what came with your particular drone... if all you can get in distance is 80 -100 meters, then you're screwed unless you upgrade your fw..

I think we have to put it in expert mode to fully extend the range. Not sure but it does have limitations set into the system for beginners on the 501ss as far as the manual states.

I tested this quads 'geofencing' and it simply doesn't exist. I ran a H502e out to 500m today, and the only reason I came back was lack of battery capacity. I have mounted quads' 2.4GHz antenna vertically. I use a 5dB rubber duck on the controller, also vertical.

I can see that mod will be useful for the FPV birds but although I haven't yet tried the 502E I regularly get a full control range of over 150m on my 107C+ * Though I confess I have to have a helper at anything over 120m because it is just a tiny dot at that range so it won't really help me to add to that bird. The apparent "geofence" is interesting but looks more like a "loss of signal" given the quad's behaviour Great video and test though *open terrain far from any wifi

the reason i dont think its loss of signal is I have full signal and controll no problem and it just turns around... yet i managed to get it lose actual signal before and rth kicked in... so id say 100 percent geofenced.
