I have the H216a and it has the same thing on the GPS accuracy. When you start the drone and it's in front of you hoovering, then try it again! It worked for me.

Hey Dustin! A fair review of the Zino. I bought one to film events, wanted slow and quiet. I have an inspire 2 I can use but too big and loud. I don't need obstacle avoidance or a sophisticated altitude and position hold since I started flying drones with none of that stuff. Pilot skill trumps it all! Thanks again.

Great review, as always! I LOVE seeing competition come in to give other options instead of DJI. This may not do everything the Spark does and doesn't have the sensors, but it meets that price point and gives other options! 4k camera, 3-axis gimbal, no forced firmware or DMZ, longer flight time. Users like me love to have options. Trade some features or specs for other things but meet that price point. Can't wait for the next video in the series.

@@DustinDunnill why the second file? I would rather the high quality file bit rate is higher than a second smaller one. Do the videos look better to you before you upload them or are they just about the same quality as on KZbin? I just see a lot of artifacts and softness on my 4K TV in comparison to other 4K Videos at similar Bitraten.

Thanks for doing through flight test of the new Zino, everyone has been looking forward to seeing thing on up in the air. It looks like Hubsan has finally found the successor to almost three year old h501 quad. It only had con's when compared to the Spark or the Mavic. And it has the two biggest features most people complained about when the Spark arrived, three axis gimbal and 4k camera. I can't wait for the range test, especially to see far away the FPV signal lasts. Great review Dustin. And BTW, sport mode feature is not enabled yet.

Good review, and a nice piece of kit, this sub $400,- drone. In the end the footage looks pretty good and that gimbal is working quite well. As a package it's hard to beat on this price point.

I'd love it if you did a revisit after an update to the newest firmwares. Many issues have been resolved and some new features added. Just skip the latest camera firmware as it reduces the bitrate and quality. Use the previous camera fw.

fherny77 just a few things Dustin pointed out. Like when the camera is pointed straight down it jerks when moving the sticks quickly. And when it was flown out and when it was turned around to come back it lost altitude and crashed to the ground. Then Drones headed to America only having metric read outs on the controller. No indication if the battery is turned off or not. Just a few of the things that needs a little tweaking.

Doesn't have optical, or ultrasonic sensors, but the pilot is the obstacle avoidance feature. Zino is a great choice instead of a Mavic Air. Hope Hubsan updates the firmware for better camera functions 8:05 He said the Zino makes less noise compare to Mavic pro and Mavic 2 10:24 Crashed going 4.2 meters per sec/9.3 miles per sec. durability good 👍 Great review Dustin

Hey Dustin, I love my Hubsans and I am crazy about my DJIs, but no matter what I’m flying if I punch the pitch forward control while I’m close to the ground it will dive downward, no matter how “smart” the barometer is or Altitude Hold programs are. I always throttle up with forward pitch punches. I think it did pretty well for the price! I think people are forgetting that very important key fact... this Zino is priced with the DJI Spark! Thank you. I can't remember a drone with working optical flow and Sonic sensors in normal GPS mode doing this and I own many 🙂. It is normal for altitude sensor only drones to do it though. This one just does it more and it was unexpected to drop so much in the turn. Hoping they can provide an update to firmware to help mitigate such a drop 👍

Coming up through drones, I realize how little of a pilot you need to be. I’m learning planes now so I can train my eye and reactions to non gyro, gps, altitude hold, and all the other stuff that my camera drones do automatically. Good on you to realize a turn needs some throttle like we used to do with our first GoPro platforms.

Since I am going to use this mostly for vacation aerial videos, flying low and fast isn't going to be my issue. Something cheaper that I can throw in my backpack, pull out and shoot some interesting views while mountain biking, skiing or of my kids tubing. I am not going to try using this for documentaries for National Geographic or anything.

Great review Dustin. This bird has some good characteristics however rest assured it is by no means a Spark killer. If Hubsan got some of the bugs out of this and sold it at a 300 tops price point they'd have a competitor on there hands.

Don't forget that you are flying a 400$ quad and should not be compared to a quad that costs 3 times as much. My Zino was delivered on the 24th of December, had 7 flights so far cause of weather, it works great straight out of the box. Gps and Google maps worked fine, also the return to home was spot on. Let this be a drone on it's own. 👍👍👍

Thanks for the honest review as always mate, I think hubsan really missed out on this one with all their short they took on this drone, I used to be a hubsan fan until 4 of my 6 hubsan drones failed and failed fast.. I'm shock they never put optical flow/position camara on this, if low budget drone can do it they they had no reason not too, they also really need to revamp their app because this app is fine for their older drone but not this one to be honest.. I think I would recommend the parrot anafi or even the Bebop-2 power over this drone for so many reasons.. Happy rc-ing mate 👍

Another excellent, in depth review Dustin. I had high hopes for the Zino as a Mavic alternative but after your (and other) evaluations it looks like a work in progress. The hardware seem solid but the software has a long way to go. The lack of sensors is also a big negative. I've never been an early adopter and will wait this one out. Right now a good used Mavic looks like a better investment.

I've found that the best way to position antennas is 90º from each other, signal seems more stable for some reason

The more I watch of this the more I want it. It's between this and the spark for me but I like the price point of this and the fact batteries are Cheaper. Any advice from more experienced drone users?

im new to drones too. but 1 thing i dont like about my Hubsan H216A (apart from the lack of a gimble) is a short flight time of about 10 mins. So the Zino is way better than the Spark for that reason alone. obstacle avoidance is not necessary for my style of flying, and i can live without an exact return to home. The slight drifting when it hovers i couldnt see in the video footage, the zino seemed to compensate with the gimble for that drifting. the only thing i want is camera adjustment settings eg for sunset videos & 2k and 1080p options.

I have a Spark also but I’m very interested in this drone. Andy RC says camera settings are coming in a firmware or app update. The Spark footage is a little sharper I think. I found the Zino footage a little soft. It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison between the Zino and the Spark footage.

I'm not a DJI fan boy but the spark is a solid drone. In my opinion a solid 1080p camera is way better than a budget 4k. There is a heap of used spark fly more packages for sale on Facebook market place that you can pick up for a bargain. Hope this helps, Cheers 👍.

You will be happy to know I contacted HHubsan and they rereleased it for 2019 eliminated all the glitches. I am excited because I really like their product and the pricing. This unit still holds promise if the problems it had initially are fixed. I think you may need to do another review.

If they don't fix it soon I will have join the mavic cult. The only problem I see is they will end up controlling the market and although they make a great product I do not want them or any one manufacturer to control the market and pricing.

Hey Dustin I found it hard to land the drone found the controls to be very twitchy and the prop off controls seem finicky what happened is I tried landing was on the ground tried turning props off but it moved and flipped over and I couldn’t turn the props off. It was in sport though. Just a little prop damage

Maybe since it took-off at the height of the table, it mistook that as ground-level...so when it got to that height (or lower) for that turn, it assumed it had landed (therefore the crash)...

That makes absolutely no sense. It dropped during a turn on more than one occasion and it didn't crash because the motors cut because it thought it had landed. It might look a bit like a Mavic but you'd be a fool to think you're getting anything like as good a drone with similar levels of tech.

I think this drone will see good enough sales for hubsan to develop the Zino 2 (or 2.0 update) and include optical flow sensor and maybe an LCD screen for telemetry in the controller (possibly gps in the controller for follow me). $400 for a 4k 3axis gimbal camera drone with folding arms, brushless motors, and a 20 minute flight time... And extra batteries are only $30!!! So long as you keep in mind that it's not a dji, it has some shortcomings, this looks like a great drone for those of us that can't afford the higher price tags.

I did not see a compass calibration, could have cause some issues. Also antennas were pointing too far up. Seen other reviews with much better results. It’s half the price of a Mavic, so is it fair to compare. Saw one video that the drone flew over 800 meters before losing signal, Then drone turn and flew back into range of the controller and then hovered waiting for command.

yes it's not as locked in and as a Spark but it has nearly twice the battery time, and a 4k video and real 3 axis gimbal. Also without Litchi the Spark can't do any waypoint flying. Every issue you had I think could be solved with a firmware update, so as it sits if my budget was at the spark price point I'd buy this instead. I think this is a good strategy for Hubsan so they can target this for Christmas.

The dip in altitude must be a 'barometer drone' thing. It happened when you reviewed the Hubsan X4 H109s. It's such a pity that people are comparing this model to DJI when it is so much cheaper. Yes I'd buy DJI if I had the cash but I don't and this is ZINO seems to offer a fair performance for a fair price.

Not a bad Flight with this one. I think that its good enough for the price, does compete in certain things with DJI Spark since its around that price range, but Spark has a better camera IMO. However this has 3 axis gimble as for DJI only 2... Anyway, Great Crash!!!!

baro hold are usually sufficient during manuvers, but if you fly it like a dji fanboy and yaw hard without any bank you may have issues. If you bank while turning instead of flat spinning you will actually gain altitude out of its momentum. source: my own experience.

Looks like the Zino was a bit disappointing with this review. But that was 10 months ago. Does anyone know if firmware updates have fixed the issues shown in this review. Obviously no optical sensor on the bottom isn’t going to be improved with firmware.

I seen that it’s best to do so after each time I shuts down. Even tho u did bind your remote. You didn’t gps calibrate the drone

Fly aways are mostly caused by USER error (NOT the drone). Poor reason to sell up. But this drone is crap, which would have been a better reason not to buy in the first place!!

Furious Angels Well maybe , It’s No DJI but 3 years 501s was Great for $200 with GPS . And sometimes return to home didn’t work and follow me did sometimes and times worked beautifully...forums said updating firmware causing problem....i didn’t update.. Thinking more the Radio than the quad.

@@willettfx Agreed. Sorry, didn't mean to write off this Quad. As demonstrated here, it does serve a purpose and displays potential. Plus its GPS capabilities obviously work too. It's going to serve alot of users well and they'll appreciate what it can do. Picture actually looks very nice. However they are not selling this at anything near DJI priced drones, it's not direct competition. I actually believe DJI prices are extortionate! You could buy a CAR for the same cost of their fancy drones.

I just had a thought, do the DJI signal boosters fit this controller? If yes, do they extend the range? I bet that video would get alot of interest...

Exciting drone, looks good and already I think it's 100% better than he 501s. Hope it's better on GPS but a few times there I thought the toilet bowl effect is starting :( - as I've experienced with a few of Hubsan's drones. But I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and look forward to your further testings and how it performs under continued usage and pressure. Definitely looking forward to the range test. Thanks again. need help, looking for the best bang for buck in the $500 range GPS quad?? , love my h501s , this one doesnt seem much better and the wifi fpv is a downer
