Oh My Goodness!!! This is exactly what I need! Getting the dowels and pads tomorrow, already have the 2X pressure treated lumber. I bought one of those 4 wheeled gizmos with a tractor seat. It looks great but sometimes I need to get closer to the dirt while gardening. And forget ever getting back up from the ground! Not a pretty sight. Thank you so very much!

Lovely job, just what I was looking for, thank you. The only modification I would suggest is that the router is used to make shallow slots in the legs to take the ends of the seat. This would be even more robust. I particularly like your idea of making the foam pad, rather than buy one. 🙂

GREAT stool Earl. As always, very well thought out. Yes, the ground is getting farther away as we "mature". Keep the vids coming!!

I made a similar thing out of 3 pieces of 2x10, but yours is beautiful! I like the dowels for use as a handle to carry it, I think I'll cut and drill mine to have the same thing. Thanks for the video!

I have two of these STEP1 2 3 Made in the 90's. Green heavy-duty plastic. Foam cushion with velcro. I have kept them in good shape but looked for one for a friend, no luck so now I can make one like this one. Love how it is multi functional and SOLID!!

This is so much more stable than the steel-tube version available in stores. Hoping you or one of your viewers knows how to add a power assist to reduce strain on arm muscles . Gardeners.com had one but it's out of stock. I'm a woodworker only in my dreams, but I am pretty sure a DIY version would be possible. I just finished one up for my wife for a Christmas present. Only finishing sanding to remove glue and top coating remaining. I used left over 2x cedar from a raised bed build for both the legs and seat and I’m hoping it’s going to pop the way I think it will. Thanks for the plan and the tips. Your design is superior to anything out there - and I did a lot of searching for an upscale kneeler. I wish I could post a pic.

Great job and great video. This gives me some ideas to make my own. I like your design with the size and shape of your side pieces and the dowels. I may just have to copy your design. It looks great and looks functional.

This is brilliant. As I keep saying, don't mind getting old, it's just what comes with it.

What a great idea and design. I saw a similar one on the Lee Valley website that folded for $52.00 Canadian. I like yours much better. I see myself building a couple of these in the very near future. Thanks for posting the build.

Mine was made from cutoffs, an old broom handle and glue and poly I had on hand...so the cost was zero. That's my kind of project. lol

Nice job on the stool Earl. I wish I could get my wife to use one she complains about her knees all the time. She's the gardener this family.
@Huck2498 жыл бұрын
I'll bet if she used it just one time she'd continue using it. It's surprising how much strain it takes off the knees.

About how much weight would it take, do you think?

I know for a fact that it handles 225 lbs with no problem. :)

+Earl Davidson Woodworking made a variation of it today. Made. The base wider to accomodate my hips, and single pieces on the sides instead of four legs. Just need to add my padding, and maybe some handles on the long side, and it's done.
