Middle age and elderly people whom worked all their life got up and went to city hall. They went to city meetings and spoke on how their landlord is about to throw them out. Lett me tell you how I met nurses , teachers , and artist that protested and went to city hall to speak on how high the rent is and how they can't afford it . It's not only the poor .

My apartment complex is in a majority minority area in central Florida, with mainly lower income households and farm workers. Literally across the street is the city projects. An investor bought the complex for 8.5 million and has increased the rent by 56%. A 720 square foot 2 bedroom is now 1,450 and they want first, last and an additional month for deposit. There are going to be so many families who will be homeless because they are already barely making it. The rentals here - even dilapidated mobile homes are renting for at least 1500 a month. Not sure what a lot of people are going to do.

I lost my home in hurricane Ian. It is 20 days later and I cannot get a temporary shelter assistance. FEMA took down information they misrepresented and I am told the original information cannot be changed. And, the emergency management assistance program (HUD) has so many loops it is near impossible to get housing. This is surreal. I am in a horrible loop that I see making me homeless - when I was not.

Isn't there some way that builders can build smaller homes 700sf to 1000sf that would be affordable? A set standard of living conditions to fine away slum lords. And finally a save our homes reduction in taxes for the elderly. Good conversation ladies.

Most states have regulations that limit the amount of people who can live in a certain sized space. For instance,in Arizona, 3 people cannot reside in a residence under 900sq. ft.

When my wife and I were looking for an apartment we visited 3 separate complexes that had open apartments. We had the income to afford all of these places. We were turned away because we were not Section 8 recipients. At all three. So even having the ability to pay doesn't guarantee that you can get housing.

Subprime mortgages, plus people not financially educated, to know to only get a 30 year fixed, caused the crash and subsequent lack of building, plus the Millennials reaching house buying age. Plus 1950s era sprawl zoning. All this caused the housing shortage. We need to build new walkable towns with density zoning asap. Builders need to be subsidized as building isn't profitable.
