This is a very useful tool that most people did not know about. I found it two days after the update and I like it as well for the same reason to smooth out your trip. There are times when you do want the challenge, or a specific field with its nuances and thermalsBut in general I like the ability to choose and custom tailor My weather. Thanks for bringing that to everybody’s attention.!!!

@@Huddison Thanks. Though i just tried it and it is horrendous. The planes get absolutely tossed around from Kitfox (expected) to DC6 and 146. Could be a live weather thing like before where the presets are good but liveweather is horrible.

Ive just come back to flight simulator after 20 years away. Ive gone from FSX straight to FS2020 with SU12 from the get go. I tried VFR through the Swiss alps in the Just Flight Turbo Arrow IV with a Floyds Cloud preset set to basically sunny with a few scattered high level clouds. By default it set me to "realistic" but waa completely uncontrollable. Like flying in a hurricane at times. The gusts were so strong even when I had the wind set to 3 knots with gusts of zero! I've found the best setting for me is Low.

the turbulence is proper. the small craft especially cessnas do get blown just like that. they are never a smooth ride except under exceptional conditions.

To be fair, turbulence is much worse when it’s warm/hot when not factoring in flying through storms, so unless flying in a warm part of the world, if the sim is even remotely accurate it won’t be bad this time of year in most of the northern hemisphere when not in rough weather like storms. I do like having turbulence options though.

@@TrueBlade-1889 Don't blame Asobo. They can only use the streaming data as presented by 3rd parties and even then most of it will be approximated globally due to computational resources and internet connection speeds and latency.

Going to have to give the realistic turbulence a try in an area with consistent seasonal convective activity... say in the United States over the Everglades in Florida. Been flying in Florida for a while and flying a small GA aircraft in this area, once the sun rises and starts heating up the swamp, canals, and artificial "lakes", makes flying here quite bumpy on an otherwise very sunny beautiful day. Will be interesting to see how the sim can handle what it may consider a contradiction in weather reports. Now granted, if the sim also takes into account AIRMETs and SIGMETs and there is one reported for turbulence then maybe it'll do a fine job translating that in-game... but I really don't think the weather system in MSFS is that detailed though.

Great video! Interesting effect. How does it feel in larger aircraft? If you fly behind another place would the turbulence of the air jet effect your aircraft?

Thanks. I'll be testing with airliners etc (I'm getting back into them currently). I don't believe they have implemented wake effects from other aircraft, as of yet at least.

@@Huddison There is no wake as yet. That will require a significant load on the sim so I'm guessing that for console we will have to wait for Series X Pro or a console that is many times more powerful.

@Come fly with me! i am not sure if it's accurate but when i first realised there was wake turbulence was when i took off immediately after a dash 8 i was flying a c172 and right after the runway threshold the plane was thrown around it was quite rough like severe turbulence the turbulence then stopped after changing heading

@@Huddison I do know that weather is something that slated for more improvements as we move forward. Obviously the current weather for global is Meteoblue yet this is an approximation at best. At actual airports they use METAR and you get the actual weather which is updated every 10 minutes or so if using real time weather. The moment we have arrived is when flying anywhere in the world, the actual weather is being exhibited in the sim. Currently this is NOT the case. As many real pilots have shown that if one flies to an actual hurricane or storm cell you arrive to find mild turbulence when in fact there is a gale force wind in force.

Just wondering if you, or anyone else, uses autorudder. I have had to use it in the past or the plane would spin on the landing - especially when the nosewheel is connected to the rudder pedals by default - I usually fly the Twotter and I can’t use the tiller because it’s not available. Haven’t turned it off yet but I wonder if the turbulence mod may help the situation.

I don't actually own the Twin Otter, but I know a few members in the Discord do (link in the description); I've a feeling they will be able to aid you. I fly with auto-rudder off; causes more harm then good (IMO).

@@Huddison I always use auto rudder. The hand controller simply is too crude for fine rudder inputs in my experience.

@@Huddison Landed at Huddison Intl in the rain w/o autorudder. 1st time, managed to stay on the runway..barely! 2nd time, cranked in some rudder trim prior to wheels down, much better, still ugly but I didn’t end up in the grass! Not sure the aerosoft model is quite right (or the sim itself?) - rudder trim actually steers the plane on the ground at very low speed, not nearly enough for the rudder to actually effect direction. The nosewheel only turns with the rudder pedals and of course has a major effect. The pedals also control the tiller which control the nosewheel. Aerosoft says they have no ability to separate out the tiller since it’s not exposed by Asobo so I guess I’m stuck using rudder trim to minimize the nosewheel angle on landing.

After an hour of updating I tried to set up a flight on the XBox, only to see the mouse does not work anymore. A seperate keyboard does work, the mouse won’t. Changing battery, pulling the dongle, restarting the sim, the XBox… nothing works. Any clues why this suddenly happens? I suspect SU 12.

I'll copy and paste something from our Discord (by Dave Wombleway): 'Easy solution to this when it happens, even if it is a bit of a faff... drop out to the main XBox desktop screen, and open a new game (any game, it doesn't seem to matter what) - once that's loaded, switch back to Flight Sim and you should find the mouse works.' See if that works for you.

Thanks for the tip James! But it did not work, changing the battery again did. My little mouse seems to only want superfresh energies, it seems. Another little lesson learned. I jumped into my JMB VL3 and fiddled a bit with the turbulence settings. Only used live weather, flying on Tenerife. In the real world, we just returned from 2 weeks over there. Lovely island. Well, it seems Medium gives a bit more turbulence than Realistic. Low hardly does anything at all. So thats a good setting for leisure sight seeing or touch/go training in a new aircraft. Realistic is my setting of choice for normal flights. Great addition to the sim! Thanks again for the great video and your endless efforts!
