Another workaround - as a pre-takeoff checklist item roll the trim full up, full down then back to neutral. I have also noticed on occasion that the trim range is offset. It will go +100% but only -20% (as an example) and I have to roll it back and forth several times until it goes a full +100/-100. As for the A/P disengage anomaly, it doesn't always do it but you just have to be ready and expect it. Sometimes I will disengage the A/P at a safe altitude, clear the trim anomaly then reengage the A/P. That seems to clear it so it won't happen at a critical point in the approach..

It’s good to know I’m not the only one with trim issues, I just started using Xbox and V1 Yoke and I was surprised how bad the trim functions are. I appreciate a work around approach for the interim and at least its being made known. Hopefully everything will be perfect one day.

Thanks for this video. You're the best. Now I know why. Hopefully, this can be fixed. I enjoy my VelocityOne but this is it's biggest problem. I tend to stay in autopilot until I'm very close and then take over. I don't touch the elevator trim at all now as I don't have time to correct it.

Hi James, Whilst I completely agree with you (and TB) that this issue is not directly caused by TB - but rather due to an issue with how FS works, its probably not wise to advise that a resolution will be forthcoming, at least not within a timely manner. TB have been aware of this issue, and indeed other more serious issues affecting the V1 Yoke due to "the way in which FS works" for at least a year, one of which is much more serious for Xbox users (complete zero axis if input profile switches, such as when typing into a text input such as on the VR map, or within the WT garmin units), leading to spin / crash / engine cuts etc. dependant on the mapped axes. Whether it is that it's just not a priority for MS to resolve (especially issues for xbox users who are using a "serious" controller (which let's face if, is probably a relatively small proportion of the overall user base), or whether it is that TB have not been able to properly bring these issues to MS attention, the fact of the matter is, these issues still remain at least a year after TB were fully aware of them. What that means for users thinking of purchasing either of these V1 products, it that they need to go into this with open eyes and be prepared to use the workarounds, and not purchase in the hope that these issues are eventually resolved. If they are... great... but there is little evidence that they will be, in a reasonable time frame. As for existing owners... well personally, the experience using these devices is still preferable to that of not using them, despite the issues - but I know there are a significant number of others for which these issues have been too much (especially on xbox) and they have ended up returning the products (and in some cases ditching their xbox, getting a gaming PC and a full Honeycomb setup! (if only we all had the funds!!!))

Far too negative. They fixed most of the issues we had. And this trimming issue is not so big if you follow the checklist for takeoff. Always check the trim wheel position. I set up a custom cam for every aircraft I fly, focussing on the trim wheel. Most of them have markings for takeoff.

@@caskraker Sorry if you feel I'm being to negative. TB have made decent progress with resolving issues with their hardware which are within their control... and their engagement with the community on Discord has been some of the bese I have experienced from a peripheral manufacturer. These issues are not within their control - as per their own statements. As such, the likelihood of them being resolved is much lower... and whilst the majority of the other issues which have been within their control have been resolved, these 2 issues (trim and axis reset) have not, even though they have been affecting customers for at least 12 months. I have much more confidence in TB fixing the issues within their control, than MS addressing issues which only affect a small proportion of their overall customer base. I agree with you personally with respect to the ease of dealing with the trim issues - it's never bothered me enough to really be concerned - although some people find it much more of a frustrating issue. The axis reset issue is much more frustrating, as, dependant on the aircraft, it can be incredibly hard to recover from, and can end up ruining a long flight... but even then - I'd still rather continue using the device and MSFS than not... Sorry if that comes across as too negative - I'd see it more as a balanced perspective as both a customer of TB, and as someone who has on multiple occasions attempted to assist others who are experiencing these issues - as I see the same issues being raised again and again of different forums, by different users.

Great video and very helpful! I have the V1 yoke and this is a major issue when coming in for landing after being on AP for any period of time (it's particularly bad for planes that require significant downward trim to fly straight and level in normal flight after takeoff). Would love to see Asobo fix this on their side. Why not just make the trim wheels relative to the physical trim position in the sim? Both the V1 Yoke and V1 stick have wheels that are perpetual (no hard stop in either direction) so just code the sim so that any movement is relative to the trim wheel in the sim. I'm sure it's easier said than done but that would be the solution I think?

Just FYI - one workaround I've been using is to use my LoupeDeck to control trim in the above situation. The LoupeDeck trim stay synced with the flight sim trim (you can actually read the trim position on the LoupeDeck screen). Not ideal but it works.

Hi Huddison, I did this a while ago and it works OK ( Thrustmaster Sidestick), but the real problem occurred months back due to one of the updates. The trim wheel worked perfectly well, then after an update the trim wheel somehow became " too course " to use in the Cockpit, as in the Cessna 172 . It basically became unusable as the whole idea of the wheel is fine adjusment. Asobo didn't seem interested in repairing such a VITAL control and it looks like they still aint bothered!

As an 3rd Party Partner & airplane developer (Hangar Studios 713)for the sim, I would say Turtle Beach would need to change the sensitivity to the trim wheel in their initial configuration model. Developers most likely use default templates for the trim. That template can be made to custom settings, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to take the time to adjust my aircraft from the few hundred aircraft that are already in the sim. Let alone the default aircraft with the base game. Looking at the templates the developers can use either percent or position as the sim variable and then what increments they want to use within that variable if desired(between +1 to +100), then it can be even further defined in the actual flight model configuration file(Trim effectiveness/limit/elasticity). My experience is to use default values. These values can even be further changed to default for certain phases of the flight ex: TO configuration(starting on the runway). So for every aircraft to be set you can either change the setting like you show in this video and have it not as sensitive or have Turtle Beach change their settings which in my honest opinion should have been tested before release or at least give the user a chance to change that setting themselves with a configuration tool specifically for sensitivity. They might already have that feature available as I'm not a current owner of this flight stick but it looks very promising & I do want one. It is on my wish list for my boys to get me one for my birthday this year. Excellent video btw! Thank You.

Is there a "reset trim" option ? Surely that would be an easy fix for asobo to add the button mapping option? Then could just click a button when you take off auto pilot, or before take off to get it back to 0, from whatever mad setting it was previously.

@@gregorybentley5707 That would only be helpful if that resets the trim axis on the joystick. If it has its own "memory" of where trim is on the stick, regardless of the sim's setting, that's the problem.

For me I always make sure I zero out the trim wheel as part of my pre flight check list so it doesn't snap back to wherever it was on my previous flight. Setting the trim should be part of your preflight checklist anyways so this part hasn't been much of an issue for me. As for the auto pilot issue I make sure to manually level my plane before engaging auto pilot. There is still going to be differences in the trim wheel vs where the auto pilot sets it to but at least doing it this way makes it so it's usually only minor snaps when you touch the physical wheel. Still not ideal but at least I don't get big changes when going in and out of auto pilot. Unfortunately recently I've been having a new problem with my trim wheel. Usually at least once per flight my trim wheel will randomly completely de-sync resulting in my trim value suddenly jumping to +100 or -100. This is a huge issue as it causes my plane to suddenly try to point its nose straight up or straight down! I'm left to frantically spinning the trim wheel in the opposite direction and either pulling up or down on the yoke trying to right the plane before I crash! This is especially bad when I'm already low to the ground as I come in for a landing as this de-sync usually results in a crash. I don't know why I'm suddenly having this issue and it makes me not want to fly anymore using this yoke. I've tried everything from completely resetting my yoke back to factory setting and even found instructions how to manually recalibrate all the axis. Nothing seems to work. 😢
@Huddison
@Huddison Жыл бұрын
TB has mentioned that this is a MSFS issue rather than their products - typically trim wheels are digitally mapped (as I showed in this video) rather than analogue mapped and thus, they behave correctly in the Sim. The only way I see this issue improving, is when/if Asobo implements analogue trim into their simulator (it's been on many folks Wishlist for a long time).
