I worked there from 1978 - 1979. I was the secretary for the Medical/ Surgical department, probably the building where you found all the medical equipment. The window sill in front of the wall of multi-paned windows is where my office was. I kept all the files of deceased patients on the sill until I was able to complete the forms to close out and archive their file. I just recently heard that the place had been condemned (I no longer live in NY). Most of the buildings themselves were beautiful in their day though I wouldn’t give 2 bits for the care the patients received. I was very young, and probably a bit naive, but I didn’t think the patients were treated with much kindness. The building where your friend almost went through the floor was rented out to outsiders for parties (I went to one once). Wow. I hadn’t thought about that place in a long time. Thanks for the tour.

Wow thank you very much for the information I appreciate hearing the history firsthand from someone that was there and yes they have re-purposed The administration building it has a new roof on it and new windows coming right along! And I have heard many horrible tales of the treatment at some of these places so I fully believe your feelings were just! Thanks again I appreciate it

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Baez, I am a psych grad student at SUNY Oswego. I am interested in researching this hospital but I am hitting lots of dead ends. Would you be open to being in touch with me? I thought it was only open from 1880-1930 for some reason. Are we discussing the same hospital, Hudson Valley / marcy? Best, Elizabeth

Thanks for this trip down memory lane. I worked here back in 2000. Mostly I worked as a recreation aide in the rehab center. I just heard they demolished that in 2019. I also sometimes worked in the female geriatric ward. It was quick, but I noticed a small white building around 16:23. I believe that was a building that was called "Freedom House" when I worked there. As part of their rehab patients would earn freedom points for things like good behavior. They could also earn points for jobs they did in the rehab center, or for participating in the classes we would offer. Anyway, the ultimate goal for the patients was for them to earn enough points to get to "Freedom House." No staff were allowed in there. It was strictly for the patients to have the complete freedom the you and I take for granted.

Such a shame. With all the homeless people in New York, that should have been slowly rebuilt into residences and training facilities for the homeless.

Yes unfortunately it will probably be some very expensive housing and office buildings do you know how that goes it’s not about the people That need it it’s about the ones that can pay the most!

My friends and I found a map of this place in the building that houses the generators and what I assume are steam pumps. It even shows all the tunnels which we only partially explored. I've got it around here somewhere. I'm very disappointed that it's being destroyed and we'll never be able to see it all.
@svxvideoexploration45712 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s crazy yes inside the old power plant the tunnels through that place were extensive and it is a damn shame that they have demolished what they have but the rest is being re-purposed now

Unfortunately what happened in the 90s when psychotropic drugs came out they released many of these patients into the regular population unfortunately lots of them neglected to take their medication and ended up as many of our nations homeless

Ah it’s just a small fixer up’er. Wouldn’t take much money or time, throw in some new floors, some paint and whoolah- Poughkeepsie Urban renewal, cheap housing. 😜 it’s amazing people want these remnants saved, saved for what? Rip this crap down and you have some pristine river facing property.

I wonder if the collapsed buildings are still standing. Could you make an update video on them? Loved the stained glass windows, it would be neat if the part of the building with those windows was restored
@johnkalux91623 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken , the redevelopment plan is only preserving the old administration building (not the side wings), Chapple , and two other small buildings.90% of the rest of the building is being torn down and being replaced by generic housing apartments.
