When a drummer like Dave Weckl refers to a certain lick as "Carlock-ian", you KNOW you've made yourself heard! 👍🙂‼️
@cameronlund87049 ай бұрын
I've heard John Mayer say something like that regarding Eric Johnson and I thought the same thing

It's so nice when you hear the drums as just ONE instrument. Not the bass drum here, the snare there, it's just one cohesive sound. It never stops, not even when soloing or filling in. So good, amazing. To me, this is the right approach to play the drums.

Keith plays such a deep groove, you just can’t help getting pulled into it. Fantastic player, one of my favorites.

Fantastic! Keith Carlock's rolls and ghost notes are the smoothest. Love that loose kick drum sound together with a tight snare.

That's some sweet virtuoso precision drumming! Damn his ghost notes and rolls are fantastic and the entire kit sounds ace. Very unique touch and groove. Love it!

I'm not crazy about the kick sound, but I'm listening to this on my phone, so I could be wrong. Awesome drummer. Dude needs a fan tho.

I love the open sound, a lot like Stanton Moore. Which makes me think that KC may have studied 2nd line drumming, which is the most fun thing to learn anyway.

Moeller technique. It works very well for the sound he gets. Although his grip looks like he's about to drop his sticks!
@howtobeatadrum6 жыл бұрын
Right. The loose grip allows him to get a great sound on the drums...because the sticks are allowed to vibrate. The right hand on the ride cymbal is all French grip...this is what I always notice about his playing.
@Gruuvin16 жыл бұрын
@@howtobeatadrum and with his left hand traditional grip, it looks like the stick keeps sliding out so that he is barely hanging onto the butt end, and keeps readjusting. I do love his feel and sound.
@Gruuvin15 жыл бұрын
I think about the Moeller technique like swinging a hammer; the instance that hammer makes contact and all the force imparts energy into the target, you can loosen up your grip so all the energy of momentum is in the tool (hammer or stick) and not in your hand, so your hand doesn't absorb so much of the vibrations; it's easier on the hands, more efficient, and on drums it gets you a more dynamic rebound and therefore better tone. It's like throwing the stick at the target and catching it again. You get a real nice snap and resonance because of the perfect, undampened rebound.

Hadn't noticed how much he uses fingertips only (esp right hand), and how much power he gets even when choking up on the stick - those side angle video shots are great.

Awkward technique but seriously effective. Some of his fills leads to more than a little head scratching. Usually based around rudiments so you have to try and break it down to work out what he's playing.

Pity you can't spell 'Keith' but that is fucking disgusting comment. He is being judged as a BRILLIANT drummer not a candidate to win The Tour de France.
@raykingstonmusic5 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but the context is worth considering: Philip says "old" Keith. Carlock is known to have gone through a conscious, significant and positive transformation in his health and fitness shortly after this video came out (about ten years before Hudson posted it here). I think the comment was intended as a fan chiding a 'buddy', more than a malicious insult. :)
