Get ready for a MASSIVE Hue food explosion! We're about to stuff our faces with the craziest, most awesome food in Hue, Vietnam.
First stop? The INSANE Dong Ba Market, but not before I snagged a quick peek of the super cool Imperial City! At the market, I dove into a giant bowl of Bun Bo Hue - spicy beef noodle soup that's basically the king of Hue food!
Next, I hit up Mệ Bừ for sizzling Nem Lui (think like fancy kebabs) and Bun Mam Nem (pork noodles doused in a stinky fermented fish sauce that might sound weird but trust me, it's AMAZING) - In my opinion an iconic Vietnamese dish!
Day one ends with a sugary reward at Che Hem, a local spot famous for their crazy colourful and delicious che (sweet dessert soup).
The next day, I scarfed down the iconic Com Hen(rice with tiny clams)and Bun Hen(vermicelli with tiny clams) at Cơm hến Hoa Đông. Then, I head to QUÁN ĂN AN TÂM for a fit-for-a-king feast - dishes that the Hue emperors themselves used to eat!
Finally, before I left Hue to get back to Da Nang, I HAD to try the city's signature drink Cà phê muối(salty coffee!) I visited the original Cà phê muối for a sip of this one-of-a-kind beverage.
If you're down for an epic Hue food trip, come along for the ride! Tell me what Hue dish YOU're dying to try in the comments, and smash that like and subscribe button for more Vietnamese food adventures

The banh cuon you ate is a variety ( meat and vegetables as filling ) . The classic banh cuons are filled with chopped meat and minced black mushrooms , a little pepper added for spiciness . They are eaten with bean sprouts . Classic banh cuons are sold widely in Hanoi but you can find them in Saigon and other cities .

Nice, I am in Hanoi now so I will be on the lookout for them here. I was looking all over Hanoi for the wet cake (cuon) versions and couldn't find it anywhere. THaks for the reco My understanding is the ones that were made at Quan An An Tam were how they were prepared for the royal family at one point in time

It's interesting what people in Hue call banh uot. My understanding of banh uot is that it isn't filled, but is topped with meats and veggies. Banh cuon, on the other hand is filled with stuff then rolled. So you might wanna beware of that when you're in different parts of Vietnam. If you enjoyed what they called banh uot there, look for pho cuon in Hanoi (it's the same steamed rice paper rolled up with pho ingredients like beef). But definitely try banh cuon in Hanoi as well...make sure you get the ones with all the fixings such as cinnamon sausage on the side.
@PureDetour
@PureDetour Ай бұрын
I do seem to recall places in Saigon with signage that said both cuon and out. The menu at Quan An An Tam definitely states Banh uot thit nuong. I just looked after reading your comment because I thought maybe I mis-spoke when I filmed this. Looking that up made me do a general google search about it. Which led me to a few articles in Vietnamese that I had to translate. A couple of them stated that the difference between the two is "banh cuon is usually made of minced grill pork as the main filling whereas banh uot is made of minced ground pork as a filling" I am in Hanoi currently and it is absolutely referred to as cuon here. I had the pho cuon last night for dinner.😁

The word beef (bo) should be short o sound, not a long o sound. Say it like you'd say the word "ball" but drop the ll sounds at the end (think "baw"). Some of the dips you said were shrimp paste looks like fish sauce. Vietnamese will say nuoc mam for fish sauce, but the flavored fish sauce is often used, which is technically called nuoc cham, but Viets will just call it nuoc mam for short. Pure nuoc mam isn't really used that often for dips and such, it's often altered in some way for dipping.
@PureDetour
@PureDetour Ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips on pronunciation. God knows I need it lol The one I used with the Banh Ram it and Banh nam definitely looked like a fish sauce. The way Kwan, the owner of the restaurant explained it to me was that particular sauce was a made of ground tiny shrimp. Not the typical saltiness you get from a shrimp sauce/paste but it had a great mix of salty, sweet and spicy. The sauce used with the banh loc was without a doubt a shrimp sauce. The salty flavour of a good shrimp pastes/sauce is undeniable As to Nuoc Mam, that is what I have heard everybody call the sweet fish sauce on all the tables so I just go with that.😂
